I really like the name [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] but feel it might be associated with [name_m]Jimi[/name_m] [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] which while isn’t bad, I’m not that huge of a fan and naming children after celebrities isn’t really something for me, would [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m]/Rodrick work better? Other suggestions with similar names are welcomed? Should I go with just [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] since I love the spelling and can’t put it in the same category as [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m]
Hendrix has become pretty accepted as a first name, so I wouldn’t assume it to be after the singer (same goes for [name_u]Lennon[/name_u], [name_u]Bowie[/name_u], etc).
(PS - Did you mean for this to be on the boys forum?)
@futuremama I didn’t even notice I thought this was in the boys section
It’s all good! I switched it for you.
Hendrix definitely make me think of [name_m]Jimi[/name_m] [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u]. I wouldn’t assume a [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] was named after him though, because the name is getting more and more popular. It would cross my mind though. so long as you don’t mind that people will associate it with him, I think you should stick with [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u]!
I agree with @regionlatbest. It makes me think of [name_m]Jimi[/name_m] [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u], but I wouldn’t think the baby was named after him. Also, as a teenager who isn’t into his music, I know very little about him. People your son’s age would probably know even less.
I would assume a baby named [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] was named after [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like if a baby was named [name_u]Jagger[/name_u], [name_u]Bowie[/name_u], etc.
I prefer [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m]. [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] makes me think of the singer.
Go with [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] if it’s the one you love!
Lennox is one that reminds me of [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u]
To me, [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] is 100% [name_m]Jimi[/name_m]. While his music is right up my alley, I don’t know if most “kids” today or tomorrow will hear a lot about him. Perhaps in a generation of little ones, the parents will think of [name_m]Jimi[/name_m] [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u], but his peers won’t, at least not until they reach their mid-teens and begin to search for music on their own.
I like [name_m]Rodrick[/name_m] a lot more than [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] though.
Hendrix is definitely [name_m]Jimi[/name_m] for me - sorry. I think if you can get onboard with [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m] or [name_m]Rodrick[/name_m] (another nice choice), that ultimately these names could make you happier in the long run by eliminating the headache of the “are you a big fan?” question.
Bonus - if you went for [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m], the possessive will still mean you get to use [name_m]Hendrick[/name_m]’s
I don’t see the association at first, and I prefer [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] over Hendricks as well!
I don’t think you need to be a HUGE fan to use the name [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u]. As long as you know/like a couple songs, you’re good to go.
The nn [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] is for one of my top boy names. I’m not a HUGE fan of [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] [name_m]Osbourne[/name_m], but I know/like enough to feel ok with it.
I also really love the name [name_m]Zeppelin[/name_m]
I love [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u]! I personally don’t think of [name_m]Jimi[/name_m] [name_u]Hendrix[/name_u] immediately when I see/hear it. It’s starting to become or already is established as a name in its own right, and to me it’s more like just a cooler version of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (which I also love)
Imo, the association would be stronger for older adults who grew up listening to him or remember when he was alive
