Henrietta Mey

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting our first baby (a girl) in [name_u]August[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] some context… I’m 50% Chinese- so we wanted to honor that. Also- my husband comes from a big family (7 siblings) where they are very sentimental about names and kind of traditional in terms of honoring people. They’re also southerners and are big nickname people. [name_f]My[/name_f] husbands name tastes align with his families, and if I’m being honest I’m mostly laid back about names. We are one of those rare couples where he seems to have more of an opinion than I do and I don’t completely hate it because I’d never choose a name if it were up to me.

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s name is [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (although he’s gone by [name_m]Huck[/name_m] since birth- only [name_m]Henry[/name_m] to the DMV and doctor’s offices).

We are leaning towards naming our baby girl [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] Mey- and calling her [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey. It would obviously be in honor of my husband.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to get some feedback on it. It’s stressful picking someone’s name for life! I do like though that as [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] she would have a lot of options for what she wants to be called as she gets older- if she isn’t keen on [name_u]Henri[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f].

I’m a big city girl who met my husband in college and relocated to his hometown in the south and am surrounded by his big, big southern family full of all sorts of whimsical names- trying to find the right mix of including both of our “cultures” in our daughter’s name.

Thank you in advance!

ETA: We also considered [name_f]Henny[/name_f] Mey and [name_f]Etta[/name_f] Mey and I think overall we like [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey the most. So far.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there and congratulations!

I love it! [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey is so cute and I like that she’ll have the longer option of [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] as well - I think you’ve found a great balance!! There’s also [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] which might help to distinguish her name from her dad’s! I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] Mey is sweet too.

I really think you have a winner (although I’m biased because I love [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] so much!) :yellow_heart:

Thanks so much for your feedback! I like [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] as well so will bring that up to my husband to see if he likes that better or if he prefers [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey.

It’s funny because my husbands family is very southern and they have unique names in their family. His brother legit goes by JQ / [name_m]Johnny[/name_m] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. And then I grew up in the city and studied fashion in college. We may end up back in the city one day but for now we are close to his family- so I’m trying to find a name that kind of blends all the elements of our lives together.

I have convinced myself that [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey sounds sweet and southern- and yet also has a sophisticated fashionable element to it too. I hope I’m not imagining it!

Thanks again for your reassurance!

Very cute!

Such a gorgeous name! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nickname for [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] is [name_f]Etta[/name_f] but [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey is so sweet. Congrats!

[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] Mey is so sweet! Loving how you’re calling her [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey :).

[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] Mey is gorgeous and [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey is so adorable. I like [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] Mey and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] Mey too.

I prefer the spelling [name_f]Mai[/name_f] to honor your ancestry!

[name_f]May[/name_f] as 美? [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] sounds awesome anyway

Oh, how I love [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]! If my husband’s name was [name_m]Henry[/name_m], I would absolutely use [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] for a daughter. As for her nn, I much prefer [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] over [name_u]Henri[/name_u]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is just such an established male name, I can’t see it as unisex at all. I think of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] like [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Mark[/name_m], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], and [name_m]Paul[/name_m], all solid boy names that you very rarely, if ever, hear on girls. I’m from the [name_u]South[/name_u] also, where unisex double names are the thing here. However, I would say that I typically hear the first name as female and the middle name as unisex/male if it’s honoring a Dad or Grandfather. For example, I know a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_u]Scott[/name_u], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_u]Brett[/name_u], & [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u]. All go by double name & name honors Dad.
Back to [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] though, DARLING! Absolutely love it. And if I met a [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] Mey, I would melt right there. I also prefer the spelling of [name_f]Mei[/name_f] over Mey.

I absolutely love it! I think [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] is a gorgeous name and our current top choice for a girl. It isn’t overly used and so many fun nickname potentials. I love that it honors your husband as well. Mey is a beautiful middle name and great honor to your culture. [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] Mey is simply perfect

I love the nickname [name_u]Henri[/name_u] Mey! It seems like such a perfect way to combine your cultural backgrounds.
