Hi! We are expecting a sibling for Freddie (full name Frederick). The baby’s gender is a surprise We have our boy name sorted (either Hugh or Hugo), but need help with a girl name!
My husband and I both adore the name Henriette but I wonder what people think of this name? We love the nicknames Henri, Hennie, Hen, Ettie etc. We would pronounce it the English way (Henry-ett). For some reason I find Henrietta too clunky.
We love classic, formal girl names with sweet nicknames. Other examples of names we love are Beatrice (Bea), Imogen (Immie), Matilda (Mattie). Would love to hear your thoughts on Henriette and any other suggestions you may have!!
Really like it. Familiar but different, and goes wonderfully with your son’s name. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] are also gorgeous and both on my list. Not as keen on [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], it became a bit ‘go-to hipster option’ for a while, and ubiquitous in certain circles. I really like [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] as a standalone, but that doesn’t fit with the longer full name w/ nickname thing. I also happen to really like [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] with [name_f]Etta[/name_f] or [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] as a nn, but I understand why you prefer the sleeker option.
I don’t think you can go wrong with [name_f]Henriette[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] only reservation re [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] would be that your next boy’s choice is [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] / [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - so if you were to have a third and call him that, you’d have two children with H initials and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] left out. Unless of course you’re sure you’re going to be done in which case it’s a non-issue.
Congratulations!
[name_f]Henriette[/name_f] isn’t a name that is normally on my radar and I do prefer [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] just because I prefer the overall sound of [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] has a happier disposition. I also prefer [name_f]Etta[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] feels very serious, impactful and clunky in a borderline cool borderline not kinda way. I’m just feel totally unsure on [name_f]Henriette[/name_f]. I do see the appeal but for me she’s just too I don’t know serious
I prefer your other options I love [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] she’s perfection. I have loved [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] for years and years she’s just so wholesome, elegant and tons of cottagecore imagery. I think [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] + [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] are beautiful together. I also really like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] she’s sweet and upbeat. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is also lovely but I do prefer [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] or even [name_f]Beatris[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] just as they feel more visually appealing.
I love Freddie! And I don’t mind Henriette - it’s very tailored and sophisticated - but I prefer Henrietta. I think Henriette is a little too stiff for me. If I was going for an ette type ending, I would choose Harriet (I love Harriet!), Bernadette, Lucette, Juliet, Claudette or Charlotte. I love Imogen (Immy); I’m not keen on Beatrice (don’t like the -trice sound or the nn Bea, I know it’s popular on here). I like Matilda though I would use Tilly or Tilda as a nn (Tilda is so beautiful to me).
Thanks so much for your feedback! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your name suggestions. It’s interesting that [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] has grown on you, I think that may be a common reaction, it’s less familiar than [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] but perhaps it’s a name that becomes more appealing when you get used to it! Thanks
I know exactly what you mean about [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - I think it’s become really popular - it’s ranked around #30 here in [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]Zealand[/name_u].
I think we’ll be finished after baby number 2 so the H initial shouldn’t be a problem. I’m ruminating over the girl name but it will probably be another boy! Thanks so much for your feedback
Thanks so much for your feedback! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your name suggestions. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I have grandmothers named [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] and [name_u]Florence[/name_u] so that could be a nice connection.
I adore [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] as well, I just need to get the husband over the line on that one! He loves the idea of a little girl named [name_u]Henri[/name_u], which I do love as well. Good to hear your thoughts on [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] vs [name_f]Henriette[/name_f]. Thanks!
[name_f]Henriette[/name_f] is lovely. It’s my great-grandmother’s name, so I’ve always had a soft spot for it. I get the same impression from [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] as I do from [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and Frederick—elegant, serious, yet warm and homespun.
I do love an “ette” ending so I get the appeal for sure! I think [name_u]Henri[/name_u] for girl is fun too, neednt just fe [name_f]Hettie[/name_f] etc. (Violet and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] gave those ending but too common now I think!)
[name_f]Henriette[/name_f] is beautiful with the [name_u]French[/name_u] pronunciation and the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation. I love Hennie/Henny as a nickname!
