[name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a longtime love of mine dating back to naming baby dolls as a child. However, it’s recent increase in popularity has made me reconsider. [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] seems to be a good substitute although a totally different vibe. I almost prefer [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] as a nickname to a longer family name, but we don’t have any family names that would work. Any opinions or other suggestions especially for H names?
If a boy, the middle name will likely be a very traditional family name - [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Philip[/name_m], or [name_m]Charles[/name_m] (although considering a few others). If we chose [name_m]Henry[/name_m], we might choose a more unique family name to keep it from being too stuffy sounding.
Our short list for girls names include [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]/[name_f]Posey[/name_f] (as a nickname for a longer family name), and possibly [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] if I can get my husband to come around.
My favourite is [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] and I really like it as a stand-alone name. [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] would make a great combo.
I like both - could you even do [name_m]Henry[/name_m] nn ‘[name_m]Hayes[/name_m]’ maybe? That way he’d have a unique nickname which he could use?
[name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] are nice!
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] and [name_m]Harris[/name_m] are some other names that came to mind. Also [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_u]Beau[/name_u] and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] for non-h names
I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m], it’s actually my second favorite boy name, but I won’t use it either because of how popular it is. But, if you love it THAT much, I’d chose it anyway. Some names are just too great to pass up, it just depends on the person.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I feel like if you are going give up a name you love because it’s popular, you should love the replacement just as much. [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is nice too, but I don’t like more than [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I kinda think you are lucky. I loved [name_f]Eve[/name_f] growing up. I still like it, I I would use it as a middle name, but not as a first name. I just have other names I find more appealing. Does the popularity of [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] play in to that? Honestly probably. I’m sure if those names weren’t so popular [name_f]Eve[/name_f] would be on my list, but it’s lost its luster. I often wonder if I would still love my son’s name just as much if were ranked number one. So hard to tell!! You are so lucky that you still love [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I say use it!
My first thought was [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], unusual, still pretty classic sounding. I love pp suggestion of [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] as well.
If you’ve loved [name_m]Henry[/name_m] that long and it’s going to bring you joy to say everyday, then go with it.
However, [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is also nice and probably one of the few names ending with S (aside from [name_m]Roman[/name_m] ones) that I don’t think of as snobbish. It’s modern yet feels familiar, and is definitely less common. For some reason I feel like it could be a nn for [name_m]Harrison[/name_m].
It’s okay to have loved a name since you were a young child, but it’s also okay to change your mind! You could always decide when you meet him.
I love Both names. [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] makes a great nn for [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] (Hay-mish). Such a strong handsome name, most popular in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], [name_f]England[/name_f], Australia and [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand.
I like the idea of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] nn [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] esp with [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] or something that evokes [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]. If not, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] - I really like [name_m]Philip[/name_m] as a middle (or as a first, with nn [name_m]Pip[/name_m]).
I like [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] but it’ll be traceable to now. Most names are of their time though so that might not matter to you!
I love [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m]! [name_m]Philip[/name_m] is my husband’s middle name along with an uncle that has passed away and I know it would be very meaning to him and his side of the family to include [name_m]Philip[/name_m]
I really like [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]! If we didn’t have a very close friend with the last name [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] I’d consider it. We’re very close, but I wouldn’t consider it an honor name in this case which makes me feel weird about using it.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a longtime favorite like I preciously stated, but partially because it seemed classic but special, so it’s rise in popularity has caused it to lose some of it’s luster. It does seem particularly popular in our area and I personally know 2 babies less than 6 months old although they are not in our direct circle of friends.
My hesitation with [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is that it feels very much like a surname name to me and we have no connection to the surname and fear that it may feel dated in the future. However my main concern was that it would not be as well received as [name_m]Henry[/name_m], so I was happy to see that so many of you like and even prefer the name [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]! Both are definitely in consideration, but I think I’m leaning towards [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Henley[/name_u] or [name_m]Hendrix[/name_m]
More similar to [name_m]Henry[/name_m] but more of a upto date spin on it and not overly popular?
