Henry

I’ve liked [name_m]Henry[/name_m] for quite a while, but have always been reluctant to add it to my list because it appears to be rapidly increasing in popularity. I see it’s ranked #43 in the US which also could appear to support the growing popularity of the name. However, with so many name choices out there, I know that these rankings don’t always reflect the true popularity of a name like it used to. For example, I was born in 1983 and my name was ranked #8 in popularity. I know A LOT of other girls my age who share my name. In fact, growing up there were 8 of us just in my grade alone. Today, [name_f]Mia[/name_f] is ranked #8. I have yet to meet a little [name_f]Mia[/name_f].

So, back to [name_m]Henry[/name_m]… is it REALLY that popular? I know it gets a lot of face time on this site, but how many people are actually USING the name?

I don’t ever encounter boys named [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

I’ve never met a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] either. Never met anyone with that name, grown or a child.

I know a little [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but only one and I think he’s one of the only baby-Henrys in Denmark. As for the rest of the world (yeah, I’m Danish/[name_m]French[/name_m], which means that you can’t actually use this for anything, lol), I really don’t think it’s as popular as people put it up to be. It’s my favourite boys name and I personally couldn’t care less about its popularity (or any name’s popularity really), so I would obviously advise you to use it if you really love it.

It helps more to look at the percentages or number of births vs the ranking. Yeah 43 seems high but if you look at the number there were only about 8,000 born last year (and that’s less than 0.5%). It’s really not that popular in the grand scheme of things. I’ve never met one, but I’d [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] to

I only know one who is under five. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name. If I had a boy, I would have used this name for certain. But I only had girls.

and I’ve had one [name_m]Henry[/name_m].

But I no longer teach elementary so I am not sure how common it is.

It is a GREAT name.

I have met two Henrys in my life. The first one is my science teacher in 11th grade and the other is my nephew.
My older brother, [name_u]Jay[/name_u] has 3 kids and the youngest who`s 4 years old is named [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
I think if you really like the name, you should go for it!!
