I’m expecting number 4. I have had only one girls name I really love as my girls choice for my previous 3 babies (all were boys though!): [name]Maude[/name]. I’ve struggled to come up with lists of names but am worried that with only having one name: what if she isn’t a [name]Maude[/name]?? So, I’m looking for further suggestions please for a baby sister to big brothers [name]Vale[/name], [name]Flynn[/name] and [name]Darby[/name]. Her middle name will be [name]Jessica[/name] and her surname is Ashdown.
well one [name]Maude[/name] [name]Jessica[/name] doesnt flow or sound very nice, [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Maude[/name] is a lot better.
[name]Maude[/name] can be very direct and an make a name sound ‘choppy’ effectively cutting itself from the rest of her name.
if you HAVE to keep them in your order, use [name]Maude[/name] as a nickname and maybe try:
[name]Maudie[/name], [name]Maudine[/name], [name]Maudlin[/name] or even its origin name [name]Matilda[/name]
i [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Maudlin[/name] and you can still easily call her [name]Maude[/name], plus i think she has more of a chance to ‘be’ a [name]Maudlin[/name]. think very few can pull off [name]Maude[/name] and this give you flexibility and flow.
and to try to get you to spice up the ever overused [name]Jessica[/name] maybe consider:
[name]Jessaline[/name], [name]Jessamy[/name], or [name]Jessamine[/name] (depending on if you go with [name]Maudlin[/name] -yes!)
(or even Jessalina/mina)
i think they are a better match for [name]Maude[/name]'s ‘olden’ charm. [name]Maude[/name] and [name]Jessica[/name] really do clash.
plus i think variations add more meaning to names we sometimes cling to as favorites or use for tradition/honoring because that extra effort to stretch and adapt our comfort zone parallels the whole point and meaning behind the new life growing inside us.
taking that extra step like adding ‘lin’ or ‘mine’ like to your favorites seems more meaningful than simply copying and pasting names from family or from 10 years ago when you first heard of it.
My only association with the name [name]Maude[/name] is a folk artist I discovered while visiting [name]Nova[/name] [name]Scotia[/name] a few years ago. Her name was [name]Maud[/name] [name]Lewis[/name]. Interesting woman and a very simplistic life style… I agree with a previous post that [name]Maude[/name] is a little heavy next to your boys’ names. I think [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Maude[/name] Ashdown would be a beautiful name.
Hello all, Thankyou for your opinions. [name]Jessica[/name] is set as per family naming tradition - by the way thanks for insulting my name orphanedhanyou! I was about to comment the same as nono about [name]Maudlin[/name]!!! (seriously people look up the various meanings of that word in a dictionary!!). Sorry, I shouldn’t laugh as you’re all trying to help but having a problem with [name]Jessica[/name] and suggesting [name]Maudlin[/name] is better has really made my day!
As far as suggestions go, I’m afraid [name]Maeve[/name] doesn’t do it for me. I do quite like [name]Enid[/name] and [name]Greta[/name] (but not sure about [name]Greta[/name] Ashdown or [name]Greta[/name] [name]Jessica[/name]) and I really like [name]Eve[/name]! Thanks!
I think [name]Maude[/name] is quite sweet, but for other suggestions:
[name]Brigid[/name]
[name]Winifred[/name]
[name]Nadine[/name]
[name]Mavis[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name]
I think [name]Maude[/name] is beautiful. And the flow of [name]Maude[/name] [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown is sweet. In my opinion meaning and tradition trump flow anyway.
I don’t have any new suggestions as all the names I would suggest have already been suggested but i especially like the suggestions of [name]Eve[/name], [name]Enid[/name] and [name]Brigid[/name].
[name]Anne[/name] is simple, clean, and pretty, like [name]Maude[/name]. [name]Anne[/name] [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown? Or [name]Lucy[/name], to complete the whole [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables thing here. [name]Diana[/name]? [name]Cordelia[/name]? And what did [name]Anne[/name] name her kids… [name]Rilla[/name], [name]Nan[/name], and [name]Di[/name], I believe, were the girls, though there was a boy named [name]Shirley[/name].
Got a little off topic there, though you can consider them all suggestions
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown
[name]Esther[/name] [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown
[name]Maude[/name] is horrible… Im sorry but it is so old sounding… I cannot picture it on a young person at all… I just cant get moldy out of my head when i read it
