Here we go again

My husband and I are expecting our third baby late spring. We have a pretty decent idea of what we want, but I’m definitely not as sure this time as we were with our first two. We’d like some feedback!

We like first names that are more formal with nicknames that have a completely different feel, giving them options as they age. We use family names in the middle.

Our daughter is [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Whitney[/name], nickname [name]Rory[/name]. [name]Whitney[/name] is my husband’s middle name.
Our son is [name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Richard[/name], nickname Bash. [name]Richard[/name] is my husband’s father.

If this one is a girl she’ll likely be:
[name]Josephine[/name] [name]Alvira[/name], nickname [name]Josie[/name]/[name]Jo[/name]. [name]Alvira[/name] (pronounced [name]Al[/name]-vai-ra) is my grandma’s middle name.

Other girl names we like are [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Dahlia[/name].

If it’s a boy, we’re a bit more torn:
[name]Conrad[/name], nickname [name]Rad[/name]/[name]Raddy[/name]/maybe [name]Con[/name]- our top choice- love that it’s unexpected but everyone’s heard it, love it with my other kids’ names…it’s just hard to look at my little [name]Sebastian[/name] and imagine him a [name]Conrad[/name]. Does that mean it will be hard to imagine this little guy a [name]Conrad[/name] too? Also, our last name is 2 syllables (begins with a B), and our possible middle names are all 2 syllable. I don’t adore the 2-2-2 structure, though it’s probably doable if we love the name.

Other boy names we like but won’t use:
[name]Tobias[/name], nickname [name]Toby[/name]- I love it, but my husband doesn’t care for [name]Toby[/name], which I would definitely want to call him.
[name]Elliott[/name]- concerned it’s being used too often on girls, and there’s not really an intuitive nickname that I like. We’re voracious nicknamers, so that’s a big deal!
[name]Augustine[/name]- sounds pretty absurd with our simple Irish last name; I don’t think we love it enough to use it.

Possible middle names for a boy:
[name]Steven[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]

Are we on track? Are we crazy? What else should we look at? I don’t tend to like the “Th” sound in names, and we want something that translates well in Latin languages.

Thanks for the help!!!

You have a lot of good options for girls names and [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Verity[/name], or [name]Dahlia[/name] would all work well with your sibset. I think [name]Conrad[/name] works well too. Maybe [name]Constantine[/name] if you are still on the fence about it? You could use [name]August[/name] or [name]Roman[/name] if you think [name]Augustine[/name] is too long.

Some other possibilities are:

[name]Aurora[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], and

[name]Cassius[/name]
[name]Clement[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Hector[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]/[name]Julius[/name]
[name]Lucian[/name]/[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Marcus[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name]
[name]Roland[/name]
[name]Valentine[/name]/[name]Valen[/name]

I love [name]Conrad[/name] with your other kids names! But if you’re worried about the name ‘fitting’ him I would take two or three to the hospital, than decide after he’s born.

Some suggestions…
[name]Benjamin[/name] nn [name]Benjie[/name]/[name]Jem[/name]
[name]Roderick[/name] nn Rook/[name]Rod[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] nn [name]Jazz[/name]
[name]Felix[/name] nn [name]Lex[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name] nn [name]Dex[/name]
Callix nn [name]Cal[/name]/[name]Lex[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name] nn [name]Dom[/name]/[name]Nic[/name]
[name]Christopher[/name] nn [name]Kit[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name] nn [name]Artie[/name]
[name]Magnus[/name] nn [name]Magee[/name] (I would prn. it muh-gee, but I think Mah gee could be cute to)
[name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Red[/name]
[name]Everett[/name] nn Rett
[name]Roland[/name] nn [name]Rollo[/name]

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I want to love [name]Frederick[/name] but just don’t. I like [name]Julian[/name] but there isn’t a great nickname. I like [name]Quentin[/name] but my husband doesn’t. You’re on the right track with your names and nicknames, Alexa400, though none of them really grab me. Great suggestions though!

[name]Montgomery[/name] (nn [name]Monte[/name])
[name]Phineas[/name] (nn Phin)
[name]Xavier[/name] (nn Xav)
[name]Anthony[/name] or [name]Antonio[/name] maybe (nn Ant)
[name]Alexander[/name] (nn [name]Xander[/name] or [name]Andy[/name])
[name]Benedict[/name] (nn [name]Ben[/name])
[name]Solomon[/name] (nn [name]Sol[/name])

[name]Conrad[/name] is sooo fabulous! I love it! Especially with [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name]. It’s one of my favorites as well. I think [name]Conrad[/name] [name]Tobias[/name] is very handsome if you aren’t completely set on a family name, but of the options, [name]Conrad[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] and [name]Conrad[/name] [name]Victor[/name] are both handsome.

If I wsa named [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Alvira[/name] and my older sister was [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Whitney[/name], I’d feel ripped off tbh.

I like the idea of [name]Olivia[/name] which is a nod to [name]Alvira[/name] imo, and it’s great next to [name]Aurora[/name]. Something equally princess like.

I like [name]Elliot[/name], with one T. [name]Augustine[/name] is very female sounding to me, and close [name]Aurora[/name]. I love [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]!

I like [name]Phineas[/name], but like [name]Finnegan[/name] more, just not with my other kids’ names. [name]Finn[/name] is an awesome nickname.
Obviously we think [name]Josephine[/name] is as gorgeous as [name]Aurora[/name] or we wouldn’t be considering it, and I love [name]Rory[/name] and [name]Josie[/name] together. I can see why someone might consider them mismatched, but we think they’re equally, if differently, beautiful.

Any other input? Please either convince me on [name]Conrad[/name] or make some suggestions!

I prefer [name]Dahlia[/name] over [name]Josephine[/name].
And I like [name]Conrad[/name], but if you don’t like the 2-2-2 syllable structure then change it up, but I don’t think that is a HUGE factor on deciding a name

I love [name]Conrad[/name] and esp with your kids’ names. I have an 11 yr old [name]Conrad[/name] and it suits him well. He’s kind, intelligent, funny and sensitive. We’ve only met one other little boy named [name]Conrad[/name] and that was in a different state. I love that everyone knows how to spell/pronounce his name imeaning is right on too. I think using [name]William[/name] in the middle stretches out the 2-2-2 to more like 2-2.5-2
