Heritage

I love the name [name]Louisa[/name], but I worry that it wouldn’t seem right if it didn’t have some type of Italian heritage or something behind it. [name]Do[/name] you think a little Australian girl with dominantly Irish heritage would be able to carry a name like [name]Louisa[/name]?

I’m in the U.S., but I have never associated [name]Louisa[/name] with an Italian heritage at all. My first though with [name]Louisa[/name] is [name]Louisa[/name] [name]May[/name] [name]Alcott[/name], the classic American 19th C. writer. I think [name]Louisa[/name] is a lovely name that is not culturally-restricted in the least.

Ditto.

Ditto to posters above. [name]Louisa[/name] is Italian? Who knew?

When I think of [name]Louisa[/name], first thought is of the book Persuasion by [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name].

I think the Italian version of [name]Louisa[/name] is [name]Luisa[/name].
I also think of [name]Louisa[/name] [name]May[/name] [name]Alcott[/name] first:)

I would never assume that [name]Louisa[/name] was Italian. My first associations with [name]Louisa[/name] are [name]Louisa[/name] [name]May[/name] [name]Alcott[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name] von Trapp from The Sound of [name]Music[/name].

I wouldn’t associate it with Italians either. I’ve met a lot of Italians, none of whom had that name. And I’ve known a couple of women/girls named [name]Louisa[/name] and none of them are Italian. I think of the author as well, but mostly I think British Isles. Not entirely sure why. It definitely feels vintage (but not in a dusty way), but for me it doesn’t have a Mediterranean vibe.

Ditto to the other posters on [name]Louisa[/name] [name]May[/name] [name]Alcott[/name]. It is also a family name for me and my family has no Italian or Latin heritage.

The Italian spelling would be [name]Luisa[/name] (keep in mind [name]Louis[/name] isn’t Italian either- it’s [name]Luigi[/name]) so I definitely don’t associate it with [name]Italy[/name] at all.

i agree w/everyone else…i dont think of it as italian at all…i only would if it were spelt [name]Luisa[/name]…[name]Louisa[/name] is a pretty vintage name

I agree, it’s a name I am considering for first or middle and I would not consider it Italian at all either!
