While I don’t love it, I’m going against the grain to say it actually does kind of sound name-y to me, I think because I’ve heard the surname Armitage used as a (masculine) name.
But I would agree with other Berries that it feels a little heavy/awkward as a given name and I’d prefer a name from someone’s heritage as a way to honor that.
I would also add that while heritage can be a great thing, some people do talk about “defending heritage” as a way of excluding diversity, promoting old-fashioned beliefs about women, etc. So while I’d say heritage is generally a good thing and positive word, it does have some negative connections as well.
