Hermione, Ginevra or Bellatrix?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all again. I know my constant flitting between names must be tiring now, but I’ve noticed that I keep going back to 2 names - [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]. Hopefully this will be my last thread until she’s here! OH still really likes [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] and I have warmed to it and I love the nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f], but I’m not sure…

The names would be;
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] or Mione)
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f])
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f])

Middle names we like;
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Narcissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
Although suggestions and combinations are greatly appreciated!
Thank-you so much, you’ve all helped us immensely in the past few days:)

I honestly think [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is fine given the numerous nickname ([name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_f]Bea[/name_f], [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], [name_f]Beata[/name_f], etc.). It’s a beautiful name, and while being uber-HP it’s connected to HP as much as [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] (maybe less, since it’s a well known star)

Given the choice between them for myself I think I would pick [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] based on pure beauty, meaning, and background.

[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] - lovely! meaning “female warrior of the mind and intellect” if that’s not a killer meaning I don’t know what is!
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] - also very pretty, but rather star heavy
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - nice flow and meaning

That’s a lot of [name_m]Potter[/name_m] love!

I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] more than [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], and you can still have the cute nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f].

My favorite of your first names though would have to be [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]. I would love to start hearing that name more. [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is a close second.

Some combinations:
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]

[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] - very much so:) i sometimes wonder if I like HP a tad too much, which I probably do! I like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but we’d really like our first, at least to have a HP inspired name, as it’s something special to us both and gives the name extra meaning.

I love [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]! Its from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and I like the meaning and star connection too.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this one
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
I also like [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] but I think that might be a bit tooo much!
My next favourite would probably be [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is cute.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]

Last time I posted about this, everyone was completely against [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], I’m rather confused now…

 it’s all in how you frame it.
The last time I replied to one of your posts you’d mentioned that you wanted something more subtle than some of the more unique HP names (like [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]) so I suggested names like [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], [name_f]Molly[/name_f], and [name_f]Rowena[/name_f].
But if you’re willing to go for the really uncommon ones then I think [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is lovely. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but I do think it’s a nice name.
I still like [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] though, a good balance of unique and familiar, HP and solid history that’s unrelated to HP for most people.

is a great name, though some might have gotten enough of it in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I still like it.

[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] is beautiful and fresh, though I love [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] even more. I also like [name_f]Neva[/name_f] more than Nevra as a nickname.

[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] sounds like a harlequin to me and I do not like it at all.

There was one point when she was very nearly definitely a [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and I love the nn [name_u]Rue[/name_u] so much, but i slowly kind of fell out of love with it… Someone mentioned it reminded them of a ‘weener’ which put me off a bit, and I really liked the pronunciation of row-en-a like [name_f]Sienna[/name_f], but then most said that that wouldn’t work because everyone would automatically presume ro-ee-na, not to mention that OH wasn’t too keen. It’s a shame because I still really like it:(

[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], it’s just lovely.

[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] is my favorite out of those three. [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] would be my top if that was included–I think it’s gorgeous, plus Professor McGonagall is my favorite.:stuck_out_tongue:

I was extremely naive to ever presume that picking a name would be easy. I think my favourite is [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], although I prefer [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]'s character, [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] is so underused and beautiful, with a vintagy edge. I love [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] but it seems to be coming more popular, and there’s always a chance I can use it if I’m still in love with it if our next is a girl. My husband’s favourite is [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], and I do love [name_f]Bea[/name_f], but I don’t want her to be judged by the character? It doesn’t bother me, because I see [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] Lestrange as a strong and determined individual, it’s just I don’t want others to go “oh, you’ve got the same name as that crazy, evil witch from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]” when she gets to school and then feel bad about it? Help please, I’m hopeless!

No matter what name you pick there will be people who like it and people who don’t. People will find a way to tease about every name, and find a way to spell or pronounce any name wrong.

I understand your concern, it’s certainly a daunting task to name a human being who’ll have to live with your choice every day of her life–which is why so many people choose popular/common names!

I feel like nickname options provide some cushion for unusual names. So that if the child doesn’t like something about the full version it gives them another option. Same thing with middle names (which is why I like uncommon middles for common firsts and common middles for uncommon firsts). But in the end you just have to find what sounds good to you and leap.

Something like Ginevra Lily would accomplish that well. So if everyone says it wrong she can go by Ginny or Lily but if she adores it she can insist on educating everyone she knows about the beauty of Ginevra

I’m sure a Bellatrix WILL have someone in her life that brings up the character, but you can prepare her for that and she can always go by Bea.
I’m sure a Ginevra WILL have people call her Ginerva. And a Ginny will have people call her Virginia or Jennifer.
It could be a defining part of who she is, or it could never be an issue at all. It’s so hard to predict, which is why I say just go with what you really love, allow for a little flexibility and then go for it.

I love [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], I think it’s a very beautiful name. Seeing how I just actually just read the books, and watched the movies, I think of the star before the witch. But I know most will assume the HP character. If it helps any, I love the name [name_m]Draco[/name_m] and plan on naming my son that name, even though I always get “After [name_m]Draco[/name_m] Malfoy?” [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is a beautiful name, and a strong character, if you want to name your daughter after a characters personality, I would definitely suggest [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], but if you want to choose a name because that particular character interested you and you loved them in HP then choose [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]! I think children might actually like her name because of the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection, I’ve always loved to meet people with names from my favorite literature.

[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] (I know both middles, but [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is short and sweet, and matches well with this name [name_f]IMO[/name_f])
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]

I hope this helped somewhat, if you need any more suggestions of both HP names, and non HP names, I have a list I wouldn’t mind writing out if you need more

Thankyou all, and I completely get what you mean kala_way, there’s that with every name, but it’s a brave choice to go for [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], even if I do like it.

Kyla12, I know what you mean about [name_m]Draco[/name_m], but I must admit - for me it’s one of those guilty loves! You might not know it but you have quite a few HP related names in your signature actually, not just [name_m]Draco[/name_m]

I am going to vote for [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]. I very much like the idea of using [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] as her nickname, so adorable! : )

Combos
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]

Suggestions not from your list of middles -
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]

Good luck in choosing!

I’ve posted another thread, so voting in the poll would be very helpful, thanks:)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m],

I love [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] too, it’s nice to see it getting some name-love!

That said, I would really really strongly advise going with [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] or [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]. I understand the appeal of [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - it has a beautiful look/sound and the star connection is cool, and if you were using the name without reference to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] it might work, but the HP character is a horrible, violent (arguably racist) villain - and so if you want a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] name I think using the name of two wonderful heroines like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] or [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] is the way to go! I really don’t mean to be rude at all here, but I feel pretty strongly that the HP character (as opposed to the name in general) would be unfortunate legacy for a little child.

Best wishes and good luck!

I’m torn between [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], mostly due to my love of the nickname [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] for the later.

[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], perhaps??

[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]. I’m not kidding I was really wanting to use that exact combo for awhile. I’m still a little sad I didn’t use [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] as a second middle name.
