How do y’all feel about the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]? I have seen a bigger group discussion on it and it is very mixed. I would like some fresher opinions. Thank you!!
how I pronounce it: Her-[name_f]My[/name_f]-O-Knee

I definitely think of [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] right away, but that doesn’t mean it’s unusable. I actually think it’s kind of cool
It’s not my favorite, personally- I don’t like the “herm” sound. But, at the same time, I would love to meet a little [name_f]Hermione[/name_f].
I adore the sound of [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], though when I hear the name all I think of is harry potter. It is definitely not a bad association, but I can imagine that would be very hard for a child to be themselves with the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], but if you don’t think that is a problem then go for it.
Strong connection to [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] which is ironic given how the name [name_u]Harry[/name_u] isn’t associated at all, I think that’s what makes a lot of people turn it down which is a shame since the name is lovely, the connection ruined the name for me, but if your up for it I think it’ll make a lovely girls name, and after awhile people will associate [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] with the one they know not the one they see in a book
I think I would like it more, if it weren’t the name of a character in a mega-popular book/film series. I would expect a young [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] to get comments about Harry [name_m]Potter[/name_m] all the time, and that could be annoying for her. Especially if she grows up to dislike the series.
For me, it’s very tied to [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I do think [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m] is a great namesake though. I also think this name sounds beautiful but I think some people might struggle with the pronouncation - I certainly did while reading [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] for the first time. I would love to meet someone named [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
I do think of [name_u]Harry[/name_u] potter but [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is steadily gaining popularity I feel and so I think the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] potter association doesn’t bother people. It’s a shame it’s so linked to [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] as the name in itself is a fantastic Greek name
There is only one way to pronounce [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and everyone should know it by now b/c of [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], so that’s a relief.
I like the name. It’s fun to say, but much stronger in my opinion than other similar sounding names like [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f], [name_f]Amphitrite[/name_f], and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. It reminds me of [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] which I also love.
Hermione is earthy and lovely
Another [name_u]Berry[/name_u] had a baby girl recently and named her [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]!
Edit - Here is the link to that thread!! I was trying to find it but looked in the wrong place lol
I like it! LOL, I used the name [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] (from the Heroes of [name_m]Olympus[/name_m] series) for my daughter!
I love the name, but here in the US it is strongly associated with [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m]. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it could be annoying. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]!
I love it. Because it’s longish and not frequently used it can feel bold, but I definitely see it as usable.
I really like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] despite the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association which TBH is a great association!
I love it because of [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. It’s comforting and refreshing!
I love it! It’s pretty and harmonic. @EmilyMcA has a [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]!
One of my favourites! I love how the name sounds and HP connection. I can imagine it being a great name for a little girl or adult; familiar, strong, and beautiful.
Yes! She’s eight now and she loves her name, its pronounceable but not too common. We call her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] for short.
I would say the [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association is strong but its not a negative association so I say its a great name to use!
That’s funny that your daughter is [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], because my dad still thinks my daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (it’s [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]). Your kids have great names!
My daughter is three now, and I’ve loved seeing how she’s brought the name [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] to life. Everyone we know now thinks of her instead of the character, which is cool (even as much as I love HP).
