He's in love with a name I hate; Frank

[name_f]My[/name_f] guy wants to name his first son [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. Not [name_u]Francis[/name_u], not [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], Fanco, [name_m]Francisco[/name_m]… just plain old [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. (After his grandfather) I love classic names but I don’t think I have the guts to name a little boy…[name_m]Frank[/name_m]. Plus his last name starts with an F. Not too sure about the double F’s either. The only other compromise I can think of is [name_m]Frey[/name_m]/Fray. and maybe just maybe he can be called [name_m]Frank[/name_m] for short but I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Frey[/name_m]/Fray either…

What do you think about a baby boy [name_m]Frank[/name_m]?
Are there any other names we could compromise on??

That’s tough. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband also loves some names that I hate, so I feel you. I think if you can express just how much you dislike it, then he may be more willing to be understanding. He is your son, too. [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] is very cute, and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] could be his nickname, used mostly by dad  [name_m]Frank[/name_m] isn’t that bad, honestly, but I can understand not liking a name and desperately needing compromise. Good luck!

Well, if you hate the name [name_m]Frank[/name_m], then it’s off the table. Sorry, husband. But, if you’re open to alternative names, here’s a few: [name_m]Francesco[/name_m], [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Francisco[/name_m], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], [name_m]Franklin[/name_m].

Maybe it’s helpful to think of some cool famous people named [name_m]Frank[/name_m]? [name_m]Frank[/name_m] Capra, [name_m]Frank[/name_m] Sinatra, [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]?

Maybe you could suggest using [name_m]Frank[/name_m] (or a version of [name_m]Frank[/name_m]) as a middle name instead.

But if you can’t come around to [name_m]Frank[/name_m] at all, then don’t sweat it. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband has shut down a bunch of my favourite names. Equally, I have shot down his suggestion of his father’s name as a first name for our son because I don’t like his name. [name_m]Both[/name_m] parents have to like their child’s name.

I love [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is adorable, and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] itself is so warm and reliable to me. Maybe ask him to make a list of at least five other names he would use and go from there. You could always put [name_m]Frank[/name_m] in the middle spot if he won’t budge and you just aren’t a fan.

You clearly don’t like it, so it shouldn’t be pushed as a first name. What about [name_m]Frank[/name_m] in the middle? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think your husband would go with that?

If you don’t like it, don’t use it. Simple, haha. I’m sure he’s shot down your favourites at some point :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Frank[/name_m] either. It just doesn’t seem ready for a come back just yet. If your willing to compromise then [name_m]Frank[/name_m] in the middle is an option. Other suggestions would using his father’s initials or middle name or even his mother’s maiden name. But at the end of the day if you don’t love it don’t use.

[name_m]Frank[/name_m] sounds like a great middle name.

I know a couple of wee Franks. I love the name-it is very hipster (I don’t see that as bad or good). [name_m]Both[/name_m] the Franks I know are really cool kids with really awesome parents. I think it definitely has cool factor.

I think [name_m]Frank[/name_m] could work really well as a middle name e.g [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. I wouldn’t use [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] I grew up loving the TV show [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] the [name_m]Turtle[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Frank[/name_m] is lovely. Why can’t you use [name_u]Francis[/name_u] or [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]? [name_m]Franco[/name_m] would be nice as long as you are not Spanish.
