Hey

Hey everyone! I just discovered this website and had to make an account. I recently found out my boyfriend and I are gonna be parents for the first time. It is so exciting!!!

I am only 15 weeks and do not know the gender but we know for a fact that there is only one! I saw that many of you offer suggestions on names and I was wondering if maybe you could do the same for me.

We are open to anything, we just want to get know some of tbe popular names or names on the rise!

Thanks, I cannot wait to hear from you all and I will be here to give advice if you ever need it!

[name_m]How[/name_m] popular are you looking for? Top 20, 100, 500, 1000…? Would you rather avoid the most common names so are you looking for a range of Top 20 - 500 for example? Are you open/opposed to names that are quite unusual now (say maybe outside the top 1000) but are on the rise?

We don’t want a name that when he or she goes to school there are 5 of them in their class. And we are definitely open to names that are unique today!

Doesn’t look like they’ll post my link I want to share with you :frowning: But the best list I know of is found is at namenerds.com (you have to click on the “unusual, unique, and creative names” link, then on the next page click the top 7000 names for 2012 (either the girls or boys link)…and that will pull up a fantastic spreadsheet. These are great because they use US social security records and put names in order from most to least popular. They also combine spellings which is especially helpful! So obviously you can look at the very top of the list to know what to avoid.

Wow thank you so much! That is so nice, I’ll have to check it out now!

also I forgot to point out that on the namenerds spreadsheets you can Ctrl F to pull up the search box and then find where your favorite names fall on the list. Not that it necessarily matters much, since names outside of the top 50 or so should be fine

Those really good suggestions, thank you so much!

Also, this:

Nameberry’s lists and blog posts can be helpful if you’re looking for a specific vibe or type of name, and perusing user lists is fun, too. I like zeroing in on a sound, origin, or meaning I like and then using the super search tool to find similar names/names with that meaning/sound. Occasionally I’ll find something interesting in the scrolling “names searched right now” bar, the name cloud on the homepage, or a user’s signature, so I’d recommend paying attention to those when you’re looking for inspiration.

Sorry if any of this advice sounds too obvious. Definitely keep posting here as you start to find specific names you like; we berries are usually a polite and helpful bunch! I find that the more specific you are in your requests, the more help you’re likely to get.
