Highest and Lowest Letter Love

So, I’m not sure if there’s anyone like me, who organizes their favorite names by letter (for me, in a handwritten notebook) but I was just reflecting on mine and realize that the letter with the most girl (first) names under it is F. The letter with the least is B, but that’s largely because I won’t let myself fall in love with any B names because our last name begins with J. After that, it’s X.

What letter for girls names do you have the most love for and what letter contains the least amount of your favorite names? I’ve listed my F names and X names below.

On my list entitled “[name_f]Every[/name_f] girl name I like”, A takes the cake by a landslide! I have 60 girl names on that list and, for reference, the next closest letter is E with 22! On the opposite side, I have 2 names beginning with J, and only one name beginning with U and Y.

The next longest list is just my “[name_m]Long[/name_m] list”, which includes only names I could see myself using. On there, A and M tie for the most names with 12 apiece (M has 20 on the “every name” list). On the shorter end, the letters J, Q, U, and Y only have 1 name.

L has the most at 14 followed by A with 11! The least at 0 are P, Q, and X - the latter two because there are so few names starting with those at all, and P because I honestly personally just despise the sound and shape of the letter :joy: [name_f]My[/name_f] last name also starts with a P so any P names would be a no-go anyway.

On my boys list A takes it, but for girls I love M. And I don’t have any names on either list for X, U or Q!

I don’t have a boys list as of yet, but my girls list is 56 names long (readded two favourites that were vetoed :stuck_out_tongue: ) and the break down is like this:

A - 3
B - 2
C - 5
D - 4
E - 4
G - 2
H - 3
J - 5
K - 4
L - 5
M - 4
N - 2
R - 5
S - 5
T - 2
Z - 1

I don’t really have a stand out fave letter, but my top letters are C ([name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] & [name_f]Cerys[/name_f]), J ([name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] & [name_u]Jordan[/name_u]), L ([name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_u]Louise[/name_u] & [name_f]Leanne[/name_f]), R ([name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Robyn[/name_f] & [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]) and S ([name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] & [name_f]Sian[/name_f]).

The only real list I have (and keep updating) is my master list where I can find every name I have ever liked or mused over. There is almost a thousand girls’ names there (collected for over ten years). A is far the most dominating letter (165 girl names) and Y the least one (only three names: [name_f]Yara[/name_f], [name_f]Yavanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Yuna[/name_f]).

This is so interesting! Thanks for all the responses. I love how different everyone is.

@SparkleNinja18 [name_f]Alaia[/name_f] is so intriguing, I like it.

@Vespertine I know what you mean about the initials thing. Our last name begins with J and there’s no way we’d use a B name for either gender, and there are some great ones that I love, but yeah…

@elanorelle I love [name_f]Marilla[/name_f], [name_f]Odessa[/name_f], and [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] from your list.

@leafsgirl44 Very interesting breakdown. I don’t have any letters with 0 names.

@mirais I love [name_f]Yavanna[/name_f], how inspiring!

From my short list, now that I pretty much have it narrowed down (or so I think), it’s tied between L and R, two of each :joy:

Lorelei
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]

Rosalie
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

But from my longer list, it’s actually neither of the above, it’s A!

Adelaide
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

The letters of which I have least are several (obviously besides the ones of which I have none): G, H, J, M, O, P

Genevieve

Hazel

Juliet

Madeline

Ophelia

Phoebe

I think I’m the only person who doesn’t have a master list. Maybe I’ll start one. I do have a top ten list for each initial and… well, K, P and V were sort of hard to fill.

I have a master list. I am glad that I am not alone in this… I just like to collect names as I am lost past my baby naming days. I collect them from anywhere, including more than a few from Startrek. I actually have a lovely U name. Uhara named after the only lady character in the original series. As she was black, and in a responsible pioneering role on the bridge of the [name_f]Enterprise[/name_f], she would be a great role model for any little girl.

No Spock does not make the list (love the character buy not the name). However I do have Vorik, Suvok and Sarek… These names are no more out there than many new names now in current use.

Besides U and Q which their are so few of anyway I like very few girls names that start with B
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites that start with B are [name_f]Bria[/name_f] and [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
I have the most A names for girls

@Stephanie415. It seems that A is a lot of people’s top letter. It’s funny, but I don’t have a long A list. Not sure why really.

@baffled_jessica I’m a writer, so my name notebook is not just for collecting names, but also naming characters. It’s always good to have a master list, so you don’t forget any gorgeous gems.

@Asherose I hear you! I have never actually seen an episode or movie of [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek, but those are some pretty cool names.

@ChipmunkGirl Yep, A is a pretty popular letter. I should have known.

My highest number is, like many people’s, A. I have 12 A names on my girls’ long list which has 65 names overall. Some letters I don’t have any names for: D, P, Q, U, and X. Z and T have only one name each on my list, so I guess those would technically be the lowest letters.

I was thinking the other day how I noticed I really seemed to like names that start with A and K for girls before I actually counted.

I have A winning in a landslide with ~58-65 (there’s some names I only see myself using for book characters) names followed by 30-34 for K. I’ll also give S a notable mention of 17-25. I have 0U, 0Q, 1B, 0-2X, 3D, 3W, and 0-8Y names.

For boys, A also wins with 31-45 names. It is then pretty much a tie between S, R, and O with S&R having 16-19 and S having 17-21. For the least, I have 0U, 1X, 1-2 J, 2 Q, 2-3 Y, and 2-5G names.

I organize mine by preference, not by alphabetical order, but F feels like it would be least likely to have a lot of favorites? I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] lol but in general don’t like F names because it reminds me of failing grades and is orange due to my synesthesia. N and F names alike I rarely like for this reason—red (N) and orange aren’t colors I’m hugely fond of lol.

In the past, A, C, E, and L seem to be my favorite letters, but just now…counting solely girls’ names (I don’t really keep anything beyond a top 20 or so, although I have random, not up to date longer lists of names I’d consider, but those wouldn’t be too accurate), E is definitely the highest. I’ve got:

Evangeline “[name_f]Eva[/name_f]”
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] “[name_f]Leni[/name_f]”
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]”
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Snow[/name_u]
[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f]

A is second with 4 ([name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Arianne[/name_f], and [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]), and V is third with two ([name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]).

The ones tied for least are C, D, F, G, H, I, L, M, T, and Z, with one name each ([name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Maris[/name_f], [name_u]Tali[/name_u], and [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]).

The demographic would be different for boys—A is my top initial there ([name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Auden[/name_u], [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_u]Augustine[/name_u], and [name_u]Aquila[/name_u]), followed quickly by B ([name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]). C, D, L, and T are the only ones with one name per letter there ([name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_u]Declan[/name_u], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], and [name_m]Torin[/name_m]).

@findemaxa13 and @KaiLun Yeah, lots of people have A names as their longest list. I really should have figured, but I just don’t have that many A names (at least for first names) on my list and didn’t think it would be such a popular letter. I am surprised that E and M aren’t more popular, as those would have been my guess.

@ashthedreamer I love the color orange! Maybe that’s why I love so many F names. LoL I think I just find the sound of F first names appealing, at least for girls. I don’t have many for boys when it comes to F. E would have been one of my guesses as everyone’s favorite, since I see so many E names floating around here. I like some of your E choices.
