I would love suggestions for more to add to my list. My husband LOVES [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], but I’m not sold. I need nickname ideas or well, some berries to convince me it’s perfect.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Irving[/name_m]. Reminds me of [name_m]Washington[/name_m] [name_m]Irving[/name_m] from Authors card game and [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Irving[/name_m]. Strong, manly, good looking, intelligent.
[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] is a bright gorgeous blonde.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Clark[/name_m], and [name_m]Winston[/name_m] (!) are all superb choices too.
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], and [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - meh.
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is a cool name, but a mouthful.
[name_m]John[/name_m] sounds like a john to me.
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] sounds like a big fat man with greasy red face.
[name_m]Irving[/name_m] - As much as I love [name_m]Washington[/name_m] [name_m]Irving[/name_m], I dislike the name. It sounds like a balding, middle-aged man.
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m] - I like it well enough. I prefer [name_u]Ray[/name_u], but [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] is perfectly nice.
[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] - NMS
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] - [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]! Quirky with a solid history.
[name_m]John[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f]. Very handsome.
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - Not a fan.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - Very nice.
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] it.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - Meh.
I love [name_m]Walter[/name_m] & [name_m]Irving[/name_m], but I don’t like the Breaking Bad connection for [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and I live in NJ and we have a city called Irvington. Are either of these things dealbreakers or am I being neurotic?
I hesitate with [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] because it’s long & lispy and I feel like it’s destined to get nicknamed to something, but Uly isn’t my favorite and I can’t use the only one that I love; [name_u]Lee[/name_u]!!! I also worry it feels so big, brawny, & tough for any son of mine! My husband is very short, they thought I wouldn’t even hit 5 feet but yay I made it and our daughter is in like the 20% of weight & height. Is [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] laughable on a 5 foot 5 guy?
[name_m]Irving[/name_m] - I really like it!
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m] - Meh. It’s a family name for me, but I just can’t get behind it. Maybe it’s the “mond” part. I like [name_m]Edmond[/name_m]/[name_m]Edmund[/name_m], though.
[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] - Not crazy about it.
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] - I met a little kid named [name_m]Ulisses[/name_m] once. He was Hispanic. I think it’s usable. [name_m]Way[/name_m] better than the stupid made-up names you hear everywhere.
[name_m]John[/name_m] - I adore the name [name_m]John[/name_m] for some reason. Other people might think it’s boring, but I think it’s handsome.
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - I don’t know about this one. It’s okay I guess, but to me it sounds like “comrade”.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - Kind of a grandpa name, but you know I bet it would be charming on little boy. I think this would work!
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] not a fan. It’s alright.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - Makes me think of cigarettes? I don’t know, I don’t smoke, but I think it’s a brand of cigarettes or something, isn’t it?
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] - I think this would be a bit of a mouthful for a little kid, would he use a nickname
[name_m]John[/name_m] - I love [name_m]John[/name_m], everyone’s going for the modern names, why not go way traditional?
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - I’ve never met anyone called [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], but I like this name
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - that’s cute
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] - make’s me think of [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_m]Kent[/name_m] (Superman) but he’s cool
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - make’s me think of [name_m]Churchill[/name_m], but hey that’s cool
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m] - underused classic. “[name_u]Ray[/name_u]” is such a bright sparky nn.
[name_m]Cliff[/name_m] - I can only think of [name_m]Cliff[/name_m] [name_m]Richards[/name_m]!! Also it feels nicknamey - [name_m]Clifford[/name_m]?
[name_m]Irving[/name_m] -love it
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] - there’s a lot of love for this name but Im no fan
[name_m]John[/name_m] - timeless
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - fabulous, I think of someone who is an achiever
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - love [name_m]Walt[/name_m], ok on [name_m]Walter[/name_m]
Overall your names read a little high-brow for my tastes. [name_m]Irving[/name_m], [name_m]Raymond[/name_m], [name_m]Cliff[/name_m], [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], and [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] especially. Although [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] has a bit of coolness that just might work actually. Maybe it’s the “rad” factor. [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is a bit too much name for a person, I think.
I really like [name_m]Clark[/name_m]; that’s my favorite from your list. [name_m]John[/name_m] actually fits nicely in your list, although it is more traditional/generic, it is still a handsome and solid name. It adds a bit of groundedness to your list. I would go with [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] though, so that both long and short forms are available options.
I have a hard time seeing [name_m]Walter[/name_m] on a little boy. Obviously they don’t stay little forever, but to me it’s nothing but old man.
[name_m]Irving[/name_m]- [name_m]Don[/name_m]‘t like this at all. It would be shortened to “[name_m]Irv[/name_m]” which to my ear sounds horrible. Errr… Irrrv!
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m]- It’s okay. I feel like he’d have the same name as all his friends’ fathers.
[name_m]Cliff[/name_m]-Not a fan.
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]-I hear this on Hispanic and Polynesian men. I actually quite like it! Nickname ideas: Ules (like [name_u]Jules[/name_u], but no J) or [name_u]Uli[/name_u] (yoo-lie). I would definitely try to make the nickname stick because otherwise kids could easily nickname him “Useless” :S
[name_m]John[/name_m]- I love this name!
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]- Ehh. It feels a little pretentious to me (I think [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m]), but it could be really cute on a little kid.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]- [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this. My favorite of your list.
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]- Not the most interesting name.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]- I feel like this would be shortened to “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”
Good luck! I would go with [name_m]Walter[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is an awesome name! If your husband loves it, name your son [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], and, rearranging the letters, call him [name_u]Sully[/name_u]. What do you think? I think it could work and be very cute.
Or, use [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] as a mn. [name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m], or [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] sound good to me!
I just saw this part of the thread… forgot to say, I knew a guy in college named [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]. And he was no more than 5’5". Seriously. His name really worked for him as a young adult. He was a nice person in his mid twenties. And I think with the nickname [name_u]Sully[/name_u] to get your son through childhood, you’d really be on to something!
