Honest feelings about Frances

I’m falling more and more in love with the name [name]Frances[/name] for a girl. It’s a name that is so unlike my style, and, in fact, I actually used to dislike it very much! What are your honest feelings and perceptions about [name]Frances[/name]?

Note: I’m not expecting or TTC anytime soon. This isn’t an urgent matter, but I would love to hear what people really think of the name. Thanks!

I really like [name]Frances[/name]. It’s classic but uncommon, sophisticated but the nn [name]Frankie[/name] is so fun.

I dont mind frances… It was the name of “[name]Baby[/name]” on dirty Dancing… ( my ALL TIME favorite movie!)…

Although I do prefer [name]Francine[/name]… I think [name]Frankie[/name] is adorable for a little girl!

I think of [name]Francie[/name] from A Tree Grows in [name]Brooklyn[/name]

also, in [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls

I don’t think it’s a beautiful name, but I think it’s nice, usable and can fit some kids really well.
Hate the nn [name]Fran[/name] though!

I know a good [name]Frances[/name], so my feeling about it may be swayed to the positive. I find it such a pleasing mixture of unexpected elegance and gentleness (via the -ces ending) and on the other hand, such no-frills disciplined seriousness. The nickname [name]Frankie[/name], or any nickname for that matter, gives it levity.

My mother was named [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] [name]Frances[/name] and she disliked it so much she would never own up to it or put it on forms. I don’t find it pretty either plain likie edith

So funny…I used to HATE the name [name]Frances[/name], but it has grown on me too! I recommend Googling the name “[name]Frances[/name] Slocum” and reading her Wikipedia page. She was a five-year-old girl who was abducted by Native Americans in the 1700s, then discovered by one of her many siblings (all with great names!) when she was an old woman, living in a tribe in the Mid-[name]West[/name]. It made me love her name, though the Indians gave her the name Mocanaqua (“muh-KAH-nuh-quaw”…I believe it meant “little bear”). I also like that [name]Frances[/name] has the word [name]France[/name] in it, and all things French are beautiful.

[name]Frances[/name] is very prissy and girly, almost too girly. My great-grandmother’s middle name was [name]Frances[/name], and she HATED it. I like it for someone else’s daughter.

I have only known one girl [name]Frances[/name] and one boy [name]Francis[/name] and I must say they have made me not a great fan of the name. So I am most likely bias but I really think there are so many more beautiful names out there!

I must admit though, the nn [name]Fran[/name] is growing on me

I love it. I think the nn [name]Franny[/name] is so cute!

[name]Frances[/name] is a solid, understated, no-nonsense name with a vintage charm. I love its sweetness, delicate beauty and reliable maturity. It’s a name that grows up well. I love it!

This.

Also, I do not like nns for [name]Frances[/name]. I do not think it needs them. It’s such a classic beauty!

I love it

Yeah, that pretty much sums up what I was going to say.

Wow, thanks so much everyone! I’m glad others generally seem to like the name. I thought it may have been just me warming up to it.

[name]Love[/name] it! I think of [name]Frances[/name] [name]Farmer[/name] & [name]Kurt[/name] Cobain’s daughter so it feels rockerish & cool to me like a name like [name]Lou[/name].

My honest feelings about [name]Frances[/name] are that [name]Frances[/name] is a lovely name in theory, but I would never realistically want to be named [name]Frances[/name].

Why is that? Is it not feminine enough, or do the sounds irk you?

I personally never liked the name [name]Frances[/name]. Maybe because my name is [name]Francine[/name] and ever since I was little, if someone called me [name]Frances[/name] by mistake I would get horribly offended. [name]Frances[/name] always sounded so harsh and masculine to me while [name]Francine[/name] was so much more my style, feminine and sophisticated.

I don’t like [name]Frances[/name], nor do I like the similar sounding [name]Florence[/name]. I don’t like [name]Frankie[/name] or [name]Fran[/name] as a nickname, and it doesn’t sound feminine enough to me. However, it is a strong name, and I’d love to see it on another child- but I would never use it on my own.

I do like [name]Francesca[/name], with the nickname [name]Anca[/name].
