Me and my husband have just found out (two days ago) that our first child is going to be a baby girl! <3 I think we’ve settled on Luca-Belle as her first name after my mother, Annabelle (she would only go by Belle) and his mother, Luca. I didn’t like Luca at first, I haven’t heard it anywhere before, but after visiting Hungary I have fallen in love with the name and I can tell you that there it’s a popular girl’s name (however it’s pronounced something like Lucz-a, but I prefer Loo-ka). And besides I’ve always wanted to give honor my mother in some way, after all she did help me a lot in my life. So, Luca-Belle, what do you think? Would it sounds better separated, as a first and middle name? Maybe other first name ideas? And middle names! We are so stuck! Any suggestions? Our last name starts with an H, if that helps. Thank you, we appreciate all answers.
Truthfully, I am not a huge fan. Luca (when pronounced Loo-ka) is all boy to me, and when I said it out loud it sounded like I was saying “Look a bell!”.
If you really like it, because it is a family name, I say go for it. The Belle part makes Luca seem more feminine.
I think [name]Luca[/name]-[name]Belle[/name] is perfectly acceptable. I know a girl named [name]Darcy[/name]-[name]Belle[/name] and it suits her beautifully. [name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Luca[/name] is also gorgeous. You are so lucky to have such lovely family names! Congratulations.
I think [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Belle[/name] ([name]Lucy[/name] first name, [name]Belle[/name] middle) would be a better option. [name]Luca[/name] is predominantly male where I live. You can use [name]Luca[/name] as a nickname, but she’ll at least have [name]Lucy[/name] to fall back on.
I also got the “Look a bell” thing
I completely agree with pp’s [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Belle[/name] suggestion. So lovely! Or even [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Belle[/name]. I agree that [name]Luca[/name] is all boy. However, if you did go with it, I would suggest fn [name]Luca[/name], mn [name]Belle[/name], instead of the hyphenate.
Good luck!
I agree that that [name]Lucia[/name] [name]Belle[/name] or [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Belle[/name] is much nicer that [name]Luca[/name] [name]Belle[/name]. [name]Luca[/name] seems more masculine to me.
I love the idea of mixing those two names. [name]One[/name] suggestion is if you have another girl in the future you might want to save a special family name for her, and since [name]Belle[/name] has been so popular for so long maybe in a few more years she will be the only “belle”. You could use [name]Luca[/name] as a middle name for this baby and come up with your own first name for her. However if u want to use both how about [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Belle[/name]? I’m all for unisex names but not with manly names such as [name]Luke[/name] or [name]Lucas[/name].
I know siblings [name]Luca[/name] (b) and [name]Bella[/name] so this is kind of throwing me off. I can’t say I really care for them combined like that. I think I would prefer if they were FN/MN and not hyphenated. Or if you used [name]Lucia[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], etc instead of [name]Luca[/name]. I understand it is used on girls in other countries but it just seems so masculine to me.
I like the suggestion of [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Belle[/name] or [name]Lucy[/name]-[name]Belle[/name]. I think that is an acceptable way to honor both grandmothers since you are changing each name slightly. [name]Luca[/name]-[name]Belle[/name] isn’t bad though! It is rare, and not really my style, but on the other hand, it is very memorable (in a good way!) and has meaning to you.
I really don’t like [name]Luca[/name] on a girl, especially said Loo-ka. That’s the male pronunciation.
If I saw the name [name]Luca[/name]-[name]Belle[/name], I’d assume that you were expecting a boy, but had a girl, and didn’t want tt give up the name, so you stuck [name]Belle[/name] on the end to make it girly.
I’d rather a name with the same meaning to honor your [name]MIL[/name], or a name that starts with [name]Luc[/name]-.
Such as [name]Lucy[/name] or [name]Lucille[/name] - I think this is good because it has the [name]Luc[/name]- of your [name]MIL[/name], and the -lle from your mother.
