Honest Opinions and Suggestions?

I have a long list of names that I like, whenever I hear an interesting name I add it - this happens quite a lot! I decided it was about time I went through it and made a much shorter list of favourites. (I am not naming an actual baby, just list making)

This is what I currently have (it’s quite a long list - I would like to cut it down further!), I would love to hear your thoughts on these names and suggestions of other names I might like based on this list but I’d just like to add pronunciation issues don’t bother me at all:

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]

characternamer - you totally just picked the ones that I am thinking might be my favourites!

Aila (like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I prefer this spelling and meaning) – A lovely name
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] (prn. [name_u]Alva[/name_u]) – prefer Aila or [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] to this.
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f] – That first syllable always gets me. I think the potential of people making the link between “a**” and “Hysteria” is too great.
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] – [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]. Also love [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f].
Briseis – this name has really grown on me. I’m enjoying it more and more.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] – on my shortlist. I don’t know why I don’t see it more! Simple, pretty, charming, underused floral.
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] (prn. Kee-vuh or Kwee-vuh - I’m undecided on which pronunciation I prefer) This name is okay. I prefer “Kee-vuh” pronunciation, as the kwee reminds me of a certain sexual slang.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] – [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.
[name_f]Erica[/name_f] – Not my favorite.
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] – I want to like this name and names like this more, but just can’t quite bring myself to. I think I like the way it looks better than the way it actually sounds.
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f] (prn. Fi-noo-uh-luh) – I have only ever heard this pronounced “fi-NOO-luh” and I love it. It’s on my long list. It’s a little fairy princessy but a great [name_f]Fionna[/name_f] alternative. I also adore the nickname options.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] – I can see the appeal of this name, though it’s not my style.
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f] – [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] – Timeless, can’t go wrong.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] – Not my style, but pretty.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] – on my short list.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] – Has a sinister sound to me.
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] – I have the same issue with these names as Eu names. I do think this is pretty though.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] – very neat tree name with unisex appeal. I like.

Aila (like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I prefer this spelling and meaning)-- Pretty.
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] (prn. [name_u]Alva[/name_u])-- [name_u]Alva[/name_u] just isn’t a pleasant sound to me.
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]-- It’s interesting. [name_f]Anwen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] sounds cool to me.
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f]-- I’ve never heard of this, but I like it!
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]-- Gorgeous.
Briseis-- A little off the wall, but it could work.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]-- Very pretty! Of course I am partial, because of [name_m]Callen[/name_m].
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] (prn. Kee-vuh or Kwee-vuh - I’m undecided on which pronunciation I prefer)-- Definitely Kee-vuh.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]-- One of my GP names.
[name_f]Erica[/name_f]-- Too dated. You have much prettier choices on this list.
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]-- Another interesting one. I’d never be brave enough to use it, but I’d like to meet a little [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f].
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f] (prn. Fi-noo-uh-luh)-- Too much name. I’d much prefer [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]-- I’m not a fan of this name, but, it isn’t terrible.
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]-- I just think of [name_f]Hester[/name_f].
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]-- Pretty and classic.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]-- I prefer [name_f]Lenore[/name_f].
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]-- [name_u]Love[/name_u] love love.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]-- I like this a lot better than [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]!
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]-- Another interesting one! Your taste in name is intriguing. Not sure if I like it or not.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]-- Very cool, and sassy.

Favorites:
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]- prefer Kee-vah as prn
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]

Aila: Like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], dislike Aila. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], maybe?
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]: Pronunciation is difficult.
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]: The sound is a bit off for me.
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f]: Like! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Asteria[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]?
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]: Cute, especially if you call her [name_f]Avie[/name_f].
Briseis: Nice, but not my style.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]: [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite off of your list. It brings to mind beautiful calla lilies.
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]: Use kee-vah. I like this.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]: Sounds like a brand name. Not a fan.
[name_f]Erica[/name_f]: Dated. I know 2 Ericas my age, so I can’t see it on a child.
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]: Awesome! [name_u]Love[/name_u] nickname [name_f]Lolly[/name_f].
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f] (prn. Fi-noo-uh-luh): Stick to [name_f]Finola[/name_f]. This is too confusing.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]: This is one of those names that I like to see on other kids, but not my own.
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]: Sound is too harsh.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]: Too frilly and old.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]: See [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] it! I know a little [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and she is the cutest little thing!
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]: Not a fan.
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]: Stick with [name_f]Ariana[/name_f].
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]: Prefer in the middle spot.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Aila (like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I prefer this spelling and meaning) - looking at the spelling I’d say Aye-la vs Eye-la for [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Not a biggy though. I think it’s interesting, different and intriguing.
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] (prn. [name_u]Alva[/name_u]) - nms.
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f] - intriguing but nms.
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f]. [name_f]Asteria[/name_f] reminds me too much of austere.
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] - I don’t love [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and I don’t love -line names so this is really not my style.
Briseis - In general I’m not huge on B names on girls (with the exception of [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]).
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - It alway reminds me of [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lilies[/name_f]. Very sweet association but I’m not sure it feels like a full name to me.
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] (prn. Kee-vuh or Kwee-vuh - I’m undecided on which pronunciation I prefer) - nms. (just a thought but I would never get the correct pronunciation out of the spelling).
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - very sweet but nms. (I just figured out why too… it reminds me of my [name_u]IB[/name_u] classes with the [name_m]Cos[/name_m] from math and the similarity to Cosmos from Astronomy/physics).
[name_f]Erica[/name_f] - I love [name_m]Erich[/name_m]. It’s in my freaking signature. I really dislike [name_f]Erica[/name_f]. (I feel the same way about [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] though). I think the harsher -c- don’t really do it for me on a girl.
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] - theoretically lovely. but a bit of a tongue twister to me. It should have a rather unassuming simplicity to me but the pronunciation is a bit convoluted for the feel of the name.
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f] (prn. Fi-noo-uh-luh) - theoretically I love this name, out loud I find it a bit convoluted. But, I have a language based learning disability and I always have a problem with making the sounds of this name work with the way it is spelled for me.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - Usually I really like nature names but this one just leaves me a bit cold.
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f] - I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] that she’s on your list. She’s on my extended list of name I will suggest to my fiancé once we are married and TTC but as I was trying to explore non -ia names she didn’t quite make it. Though I am reconsidering. I just adore this greek mythological name - so underused and under-appreciated. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f].
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I think I prefer [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] (mostly because of [name_u]Jo[/name_u] from Eureka) I’ve had a hard time getting behind this name otherwise though I do love the nn’s [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_f]Posey[/name_f] in particular).
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Eleonora[/name_f] - this is one of the only grandiose, larger than life names I really love.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] - I see why people like it but I think for me it’s more of a pets name.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - Another fabulous name. I love the character and her original and more recent “flower power” portrayal.
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Oriana[/name_f]. It’s one of those names I can’t decide if I’m about to fall in love with or out of love with. [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t know if that makes sense.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - I’m not sure if fits with the rest of your list as it does not strike me as being as feminine to me. But I love this name as well on a boy and a girl.

[name_f]May[/name_f] I first say that I adore many of your names, particularly the Irish ones! You have lovely taste.

Aila- I love the sound, but I prefer the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling.
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]- Pretty! Not a huge fan, but it’s definitely pretty.
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]- [name_f]Anwen[/name_f] is gorgeous. I also love [name_u]Auden[/name_u], which is similar.
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f]- Very feminine and beautiful.
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]- I actually like this better than [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (which is the less common opinion here on Nameberry).
Briseis- I’m not positive how to pronounce this. If it’s pronounced [name_f]BRI[/name_f]-sais, then I actually quite like it.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]- A favorite of mine! One of the more obscure flower names. Very pretty.
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]- I love it prn. KEE-vuh. It sounds better and flows better to me.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]- I’ve never been a huge fan of this, but lately its sounding better to me.
[name_f]Erica[/name_f]- Seems a bit dated.
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]- Nice, though probably pretty out-there.
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]- Beautiful! I love this nn [name_f]Nola[/name_f].
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- I have never liked this.
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]- Very pretty! One Greek mythology name I hardly ever hear.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- A strong, timeless classic. A very good name.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]- Pretty. Not stand-out to me, but pretty nonetheless. I’d love to meet a little [name_f]Leonora[/name_f].
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]- A bit common for me. I love how it means ‘moon’.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]- Reminds me of witches.
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]- [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- Bad associations for me, but still a lovely name.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f], [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f], [name_f]Asteria[/name_f], and Oriona.

I just did the same thing with my list. I felt a lot better when I had it cut down to my “real” favorites, haha
I just went through and gave you my true, honest opinion on your names, so if I ever come across too harsh or rude you have my apologies.

Aila (like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I prefer this spelling and meaning)- I prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but this is pretty too.
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] (prn. [name_u]Alva[/name_u])- [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t love, but it’s interesting
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]- It’s growing on me a bit.
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f]- I like this a lot.
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]- Doesn’t do it for me; it sounds too much like a product.
Briseis- Interesting. I like it! Maybe more as a middle? Nickname [name_f]Bree[/name_f] I like.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one, esp. in the middle
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] (prn. Kee-vuh or Kwee-vuh - I’m undecided on which pronunciation I prefer)- I prefer Kee-vuh, but I’m not a huge fan.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]- Pretty.
[name_f]Erica[/name_f]- Sounds dated to me, I know several grown-up Ericas.
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]- I associate it with a war cry from a series of fantasy books that I read growing up, so I can’t see it as a name
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f] (prn. Fi-noo-uh-luh)- [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one!
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- I like this.
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]- Not a fan.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- I love this one too.
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u] love love. So pretty and strong. It’s on my list.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]- [name_u]Love[/name_u] it, very nice moon associations and sound.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]- Eh. Better than [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], but it doesn’t do it for me.
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]- Has a pretty sound that I quite like.
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]- Pretty, on a girl. It’s nice

Thank you everybody for your responses

aym - I do really like [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] but there are several people in my family with this name so pretty unusable  Hmm I hadn’t spotted the Ass or Hysteria thing, I only thought it sounded like Wysteria

marshmallow1207 - Oooh I like [name_m]Callen[/name_m]! I doubt I would ever dare [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], I really like it but I think it would be pretty difficult to wear

collmcc523 - hmm seems Kee-vuh is definitely the preferred pronunciation, I think I like it more but my southern Irish family all say Kwee-vuh and Kee-vuh is more northern

Laury - more love for [name_f]Calla[/name_f] I hadn’t thought of [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], that’s cute

lexiem - it’s so weird that you say that about Aila, I thought people would have less problem with Aila than [name_f]Isla[/name_f] because I’ve seen many people say they would pronounce [name_f]Isla[/name_f] Iss-luh
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is on my longer list, and I very nearly put it on this shorter one
Yay! So glad you like [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], people seem to either love or hate this but I just love the sound and the meaning, definitely reconsider! I do agree [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is quite different though to be honest I thought they were all a bit of a random mix

matti12 - so glad you like the Irish ones! Most people don’t like them because they can’t pronounce them. I like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] but or some reason I love [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] much more (I think it’s because of my love for [name_f]Ava[/name_f]) I’m not very good at writing out how names are pronounced but Briseis is along the lines of [name_f]Bree[/name_f]-say-iss. Woo more love for [name_f]Hestia[/name_f]

llumeneres - thank you  ha [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] does sound a bit like a war cry!

Not much love for [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] or [name_f]Erica[/name_f] :frowning:

Any more responses also appreciated, any suggestions for other names I might like? I always love to hear new names

Aila (like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I prefer this spelling and meaning) - I really like this name, it sounds beautiful and I think it’s a way less common way to use the common [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. The spelling also helps with pronunciation.
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] (prn. [name_u]Alva[/name_u]) - I like the name [name_u]Alva[/name_u] but honestly I would never have even guessed that was how to say it. If pronunciation is not an issue then go for it, it is a nice sounding name once you get used to the spelling.
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f] - This sounds rather masculine to me, I prefer the name [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] as it seems softer but the ending still makes this name
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f] - I like this, reminds me of the beautiful wisteria flower. The ‘eria’ ending is so feminine and pretty
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] - Havn’t heard this before and think I like [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] better but this is still quite pretty
Briseis - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know how to pronounce this one
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Callie[/name_f] better but its still nice. A little plain though and I wouldn’t see it as a complete name
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f] (prn. Kee-vuh or Kwee-vuh - I’m undecided on which pronunciation I prefer) I definitely prefer the Kee-vuh pronunciation, but again I am not such a big fan of Irish names and would have pronounced it Kyee-Ome…
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t really like this one
[name_f]Erica[/name_f] - One of my favourites except I like it [name_f]Erika[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] - Sounds like Lollypop…don’t like this
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f] (prn. Fi-noo-uh-luh) - Trouble pronouncing again
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - Reminds me of a teacher I hated but it is a pretty name
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f] - Reminds me of Cyst for some reason…sounds like a medical name for a disease. Not my style
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - Plain and makes me think of middle aged, divorced women
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - Quite pretty and sophisticated
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this one but I’m not brave enough to use it on a child
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] - Must admit [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] made me adore this name until she became evil…such a pretty name with the added ‘a’
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f] - I do like this and also the variants [name_f]Orianna[/name_f] and Orienne/Orienna
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] - Not really my style again, sounds a bit masculine to me

Sorry for the negative comments lol I know you like these names but it’s just my opinion. Everyone likes different names for a reason right…Good luck with your lists! [name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are definitely [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], [name_f]Erica[/name_f], [name_f]Asteria[/name_f] and Aila. Lol as you can probably tell I like girls names ending in ‘A’.

I like
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
Briseis [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f] I am currently loving Greek names. I am also fascinated with [name_f]Hera[/name_f].

aza - I do also like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] but I have never read [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of The Rings and I’ve only seen the first film and I feel if I ever mentioned the name [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] to people they would say, ‘Ooh, are you a LOTR fan?’… err nope, not really
The negative comments are fine, I wanted honest opinions and that’s what I got and you definitely didn’t come across rude

daisyliv - I am also currently in love with Greek names  I do like [name_f]Hera[/name_f] but I like it said Hear-uh which I know is a completely incorrect pronunciation, it’s just the way I thought it was pronounced from seeing it written down before I joined Nameberry and learnt the correct way

So far I have my list down to 12 which is definitely a start!
Aila
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
Briseis
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Caoimhe[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]

I’ve actually heard that pronunciation before.

Babynameworlds has both pronunciations, Heh-rah and Hear-a.

I love love Briseis.

hmm that’s interesting, maybe the Hear-uh pronunciation is for the Maori name [name_f]Hera[/name_f] they mentioned?

I know, I love love Briseis too! I think it’ something to do with the way it ‘feels’ when I say it. I can’t seem to find anywhere that is sure of the meaning though

Aila (like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I prefer this spelling and meaning)- I really like this one!
[name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] (prn. [name_u]Alva[/name_u])- not my favorite at all
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f]- This one sounds a bit odd to me
[name_f]Asteria[/name_f]- this sounds like a mouth wash
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]- This is really pretty
