We have our 2nd baby on the way, due at [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] time! Obviously we don’t know the gender, but I’m already in brainstorming mode. For a boy I really like
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Mac[/name_m])
It’s pretty popular in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] but it’s not even in the top 1000 in the USA. What are your honest opinions on this name?
It’s on my list too! In my top 10 actually. I love it. (Though I did decide to spell [name_m]Mack[/name_m] like this to make it feel more substantial.)
It’s on my list too. I was thinking about it just today.
Pros: Beautiful symmetry, with the bite of that C at the beginning and end. The “[name_m]Cor[/name_m]” part makes me think of the heart, of someone who lives wholeheartedly and wears his heart on his sleeve. Fabulous nickname. [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]McCarthy[/name_u] is a devastatingly good writer.
Cons: I’m not a [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]McCarthy[/name_u] aficionado. Are you? Is it weird to give a kid a name that most Americans will associate with this one man, without being really well-versed in every single one of his books? Would it sound pretentious calling this out on the playground? Would I feel like one of the snooty mothers calling out “[name_u]Yeats[/name_u], [name_u]Keats[/name_u], and [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], get off those monkey bars right now!”?
I love it. It’s simple and phonetic enough that I would never think of it as pretentious. It’s just strong, warm, and distinctive, with a nice touch of romanticism.
I really like it. As @emmabobemma has already mentioned, it makes me think of [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]McCarthy[/name_u] but I am not his fan and I still think Comac is very usable. [name_m]Mac[/name_m] will make more down-to-earth.
I think it’s a lovely name! There was a fairly minor character in the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] series called [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] so it’s definitely on people’s radars.
It’s not really my style but there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s a legitimate name with the correct spelling and I think it sounds rather handsome. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let lack of popularity or familiarity put you off - unlike a lot of Irish names, it is say-as-you-see which will help people get to grips with it easier.
I don’t think its snooty at all, especially if you will be calling him by his nickname, [name_m]Mac[/name_m].
[name_m]Just[/name_m] to let you know, [name_m]Mac[/name_m] is a character in a TV show called Its Always [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] in [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u], which has kind of a cult following - and its hilarious but pretty crass & low brow. And [name_m]Mac[/name_m] is a particularly idiotic character.
I like it! [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is somewhat familiar in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] due to [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]McCarthy[/name_u] and the minor character in the HP series, plus it’s not hard to pronounce or spell. Definitely a winner.
