Iam start to see the first season of Game of thrones . I know that one of the lead characters is [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] . In first look i thought it was weird but th more that i look it the more i like it . Althought it will never be usable to me , i want to put it on my gp list .

So what everyone think of [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] ?
Is it your first thought about character of Games of thrones ?

I think thqt with nn like [name_f]Dany[/name_f] , [name_m]Nery[/name_m] etc is it usable . What do you think ?

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]

People are using GOT names in real life, so you wouldn’t be alone! I’d steer clear from a name invented for a book so recently myself, but if the books and show mean a lot to you I don’t think it’s the worst thing. Actually, I really like the name - probably because it reminds me of [name_f]Danae[/name_f] and [name_u]Damaris[/name_u], both of which I’d use first. With people using [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f], I’d say people would accept [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f]. It could also be a cool middle.

Names like this are what the GP list was MADE for

I agree I think it’d make a lovely middle name! I love GOT!

I definitely immediately think of Game of Thrones! I definitely prefer [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] over [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f], though… I mean… [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f] isn’t even her name! Haha.

I actually just saw some article on this very topic/name. Children were given this name last year (I think it was around a dozen). Children were also given the name [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f]. It is directly tied to Game of Thrones, as I believe the author made them up.

I say add it to the GP list and who knows, it may continue to rise in popularity as a baby name and become quite acceptable. After all, the very accessible [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is said to have been made up. And many names are created so to speak. [name_m]Even[/name_m] established names are often associated with characters in books or movies.

Thanks guys for your opinions

Iam a little ashamed to tell that i kind of like Khalessi as name despite the fact that its more gp than [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] .

I like [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] better. Danaris is better spelled a bit simpler, like Denaris or Danarys.

I’d be cautious about naming a baby after a character in a series that isn’t finished yet. What if there’s a twist at the end and she turns evil? I actually think this is more of a risk with [name_u]Arya[/name_u] than [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f], but the truth is that nobody knows how the series is going to end yet, except for the author.

[name_u]LOVE[/name_u]. I’m reading the fifth book, looking forward to season four, and I have considered using [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] as a first and middle name. There is also Deianira as an alternative.

Made up names like [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] are on par with names like [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] and [name_f]Katniss[/name_f]. They’re strongly associated with characters in books/TV/films. By all means, keep them as a guilty pleasures but I wouldn’t want to give them to a human being.

Same here, kind of. I think [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f] is just terrible.

I understand the appeal of [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f], but I still wouldn’t use it based on the reasons everyone else is listing (especially because it’s just waaaaayyyy too tied to one character.)

I like people’s suggestions of [name_u]Dana[/name_u]ë, [name_u]Damaris[/name_u], and Dianeira/Deianeira.

Thanks guys

[name_u]Love[/name_u] your name suggestions ! Espessially [name_f]Danae[/name_f] ( sorry i coudnt do the right spelling) .

@mischa : Maybe you are right about that . I dont mind that are too tied to the character but i guess its better to keep them as qp .
@kerrycl : Great point . Althought i havent read or watch the series so i dont know what kind of character is [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] ( i have only read desciptions about her on internet ) .

Exactly. [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] and I are on pretty similar name wavelengths!

I don’t think associations with characters is necessarily a bad thing, unless the character isn’t liked by majority. In fact I love character inspired names. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is not real name too, if you think about it. I like [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] but if you want a more realistic opiton, [name_f]Nerys[/name_f] is an actual girls name

As a fan of the series I can say most people love her and she is a great character but! in the TV show she is nude and her character goes through some bad stuff. At the very least, watch/read the series to get to know about her character before using the name because until all the little [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] grow up that will be the main association. This one in particular would be not bad for a grown woman I think but I wouldn’t be comfortable using it on a little girl. As far as this particular character is concerned. [name_f]Danae[/name_f] is a good safer option if it’s the sound you like.

I really like it!! I love how soft it is, and it can be shortened for quite a few nicknames, my favorite being erys!! Erys was one of my top names for a long time until I stumbled upon [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] in GOT, I think it sounds beautiful!! And even [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] was created for [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m], and look how much that name caught on :)!!
