Honest opinions on Annabel?

I am looking for honest feedback on the name [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. Overall, do you like the name? Does it sounds nice paired w/ sisters Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]? I have to admit, was never a fan of [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. Something about the belle spelling makes it so frilly/girly to me. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], even though pronounced the same, has a slightly different feel to me. Though this may be silly since they’re pronounced the same! I would def want to use nickname [name_f]Annie[/name_f] as I jst adore this sweet name but I wanted a proper name and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is Scottish which is great.

I like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], and prefer this spelling. I thought I was the only one. Typically I’m not a fan of any -belle names that end with -lle. I think its really frilly looking. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and I have a tug of war, sometimes I love her, other times I think she’s way too dramatic and girly and frilly. Its a nice name, and I think it goes nicely with [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and Mhairi, although I would expect something distinct and different because of your other girls’ names. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and Mhairi are beautiful and unexpected, while [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is really safe and normal compared to them.

Hardertobreathe…do you have any suggestions for what might sound more appropriate with Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]? I know what you’re saying for sure…but having trouble coming up with something.

I agree with you. I like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] but I think it is more common then the other girls. But if you nick name her [name_f]Annie[/name_f] I think it’s retro cool:) so…I think you could go with it!

I prefer [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. The -belle part [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is very frilly. I think it would go fine with your girls, but doesn’t quite match with them.

What about [name_f]Annika[/name_f] or [name_f]Annora[/name_f]?

I absolutely love it. If popularity is no problem (Annabelle cracked the top 100 in 2012 in the US, and is in there for England/Wales as well), then I’d say go for it!

Annabel is definitely my favorite spelling. There might be some initial confusion/need for her to correct on spelling, as there’s a pretty significant gap in popularity (at least in the US - I’m not sure how to track beyond the top 100 for the UK) and Annabelle will probably be most familiar. But honestly, that’s a very small issue. I love it to death, and it sounds great with Fiona and Mhairi!

I love it! I am one of those people who avoids names that feel overly popular, but [name_f]Anabel[/name_f] (whatever spelling) feels too classic to be played out imo. And [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is charming. I might one day use [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] which is similar.

I do think she will have to clarify spelling regardless of which one you go with, so that’s a bit of a flaw for me. I think it sounds great in the sibset. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names!

Have never liked any of the -bel / -belle names

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is gorgeous- elegant, romantic and dreamy. I actually don’t know any Annabels (any spelling) so I find it familiar-but-unusual. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is my favourite spelling; [name_f]Anabel[/name_f] seems either incomplete or very Spanish and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] too frilly. It sounds lovely with Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. I can’t believe you’re pregnant again- congratulations!- it seems like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]'s naming journey was just a few weeks ago, though I’m sure you’ll beg to disagree!

Thank you bonfireazalea…and what a journey it was! ha [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is only 10 months, we def did not expect to be pregnant again so soon! Due in [name_u]March[/name_u] so [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] will only be like 14-15 months!

And thank you for all the feedback everyone. I had been loving [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] mainly to use nickname [name_f]Annie[/name_f] but it did bother me that it didn’t have the Scottish background to go w/ the other girls so I am loving [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. Still not sure if we’re having boy or girl but trying to narrow down to top 3 for both boy/girl.

I absolutely adore the name [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], this spelling. I agree that [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] looks too frilly to me too. I also have a [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and considered [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] for her sister. I think they go great together!

Oh nice to meet another Mom with a [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]! I am loving [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] more and more.

I love Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]! They seem so special and unique and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]…doesn’t. I think it is a very very pretty name, but doesn’t have the same qualities that your other names have. It is much frillier popular name. If you want [name_f]Annie[/name_f], then I would love to see [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or even [name_f]Annie[/name_f].

Mhairi feels very unfamiliar to me, but I’m not sure how common it is where you are.
I love [name_f]Anabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and think it works great with almost anything. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is definitely far more common in the US than Mhairi or even [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], but if you love it I think it’ll work fantastically.

[name_u]Adair[/name_u] has always been one of my favorite from the [name_m]Scot[/name_m] category, but I still think [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is the one you should choose.

[name_u]Adair[/name_u] is very pretty. [name_m]Just[/name_m] little too different for me. Mhairi is not super common here but have met two other little Mhairis around my daughters age. Have met one [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. And no little [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]'s yet but there is a little Fionnula.

I love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. Definitely only this spelling. I think it fits well. I love [name_f]Annora[/name_f], which I saw suggested, though it feels a bit close to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] somehow? (I saw someone suggested [name_f]Iona[/name_f]–that must have been a mistake!)

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] does feel less exotic (for lack of a better word) than Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], but it is Scottish after all! I think [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] would be a nice fit too, but I’m sure you’ve thought of that. If you love [name_f]Annie[/name_f], I say go for it.

I have thought of [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. Which I love. But we have a cat named [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] and we always call her [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]! And yes [name_f]Annora[/name_f] and even [name_f]Nora[/name_f] are both very pretty but remind me too much of [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] too!

Quoting this just in case you missed it.
