What do you think of [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]!? Seems like might be a bit out there to me but was going through name lists off nameberry w/ my husband today and he actually liked [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]. This is a man who literally just says no to every suggestion I make but offers none. So if he likes something, I take notice. And to be honest, I kind of like it too. But worried what people might think. Have a strong feeling my family would hate it. And does it sounds good or weird w/ sisters Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]?? [name_f]Honesty[/name_f] appreciated.
I really, really like [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]. It has always been at the top of my list. It’s the most fun of the [name_m]Ed[/name_m]/[name_m]Eddie[/name_m] names, to me. My husband likes it because of the connection to [name_u]Poe[/name_u], which I think is a little macabre and tragic for a baby. But it kind of works, too.
I don’t see how [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] is that unusual. It seems like a perfectly viable choice to me, and I like it with sisters Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].
[name_m]Edgar[/name_m] is not really my style as I prefer [name_m]Edison[/name_m] but if you like it then go for it! I think it fits well with your sibset and older names are being used more now so if it is the top of your list then I think it’d work. It’s easy to spell and pronounce unlike some modern names!
Ok thanks for the feedback. I loved [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] [name_u]Poe[/name_u] as a child…was a weird kid haha. I guess I just worry it sounds a bit harsh or something for a baby? But I love [name_m]Angus[/name_m] too which has a similar rugged feel. I like ‘old man’ names for boys. My husband said no to [name_m]Angus[/name_m] though but loves [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] so def putting it on list.
I love the contrast of the rather dark, dusty, dramatic [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] on a freshly birthed little human.
I immediately thought of [name_u]Poe[/name_u], too. As far as namesakes go, however, [name_u]Poe[/name_u] is a pretty amazing one. I love [name_m]Angus[/name_m] and I have to say I loved the earlier suggestion of [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. But there is much to be said for accommodating your husband, especially if he usually doesn’t show an interest in such matters. Getting back to [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], my opinion is pretty neutral.
[name_m]Edgar[/name_m] is actually a guilty pleasure of mine. I think it would be neat to see a little [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] walking around because it’s so unusual these days.
I don’t like it very much…it makes me think of cigars. And eggs.
Ok thanks…I wanted to hear honest! ha It’s def a hit or miss name for sure.
It’s still in the “old man” realm for me, and not in a charming vintage way.
Makes me think of eggs.
It makes me think of “[name_m]Edgar[/name_m] suit” from MIB.
…Yeah, probably not a common association, but I’m not a fan.
I think it could grow on me!
The eggs thing must be UK related because I don’t understand that connection. Maybe it’s my accent.
It’s a tad unusual and definitely on the vintage train, but I don’t mind it. I might like [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] better.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]. It has so much hidden character, and old and clunky but still usable. I just simply love it.
Thanks for feedback. Seems could def go either way for people. I think if [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] felt like too much for a little boy, at least [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] is a nice nn option. My grandfather and uncle are both [name_m]Ed[/name_m]'s ([name_m]Edward[/name_m]).
Yeah, I agree. I’m a bit confused by the egg thing.
I really like [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]! I’d be thrilled to meet a little [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Ned[/name_m] as a nickname for it.
I have to go along with the pro-[name_m]Edgar[/name_m] crowd. I think its kind of interesting and the nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] or [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] gives it kid appeal.
(I don’t get the egg thing either)
I love the name [name_m]Edgar[/name_m]! Reminds me of pro baseballer [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] Martinez. I’m a Mariners fan so he is a great with us, good association.
It’s probably not the more popular of the [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- names, but it is my favorite of them. I think it works with Mhairi and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].
I don’t really like it at all, tbh. It reminds of of the bad butler in The Aristocats and being the first name of a very strange teacher I used to have. I much prefer [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
