What are your honest thoughts on the name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of interest
I quite like it but slightly prefer [name_f]Lisbet[/name_f]/[name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f].
It’s a classic. I don’t like the long version of the name but I would name my child Elizabeth and use a diminutive:
Liz, Lizzie, Elsie,Betty, Lil, Liza,Beth, Betsy etc
I know 2 people that go by Lib/ libby, and one that goes by Zib
I don’t like it, mainly because of how common it is. I prefer [name_f]Elisabet[/name_f].
I like it, I prefer [name_f]Elisabetta[/name_f] but I love the nn [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. You can’t go wrong with it really.
I think it has a good deal of strength and substance, and lots of associations to back that image up. I personally prefer it as a middle due to popularity, but [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has a lot of character and personality, classic, but fiery and feisty too. And so many nickname choices, if that’s your thing.
I really like it’s sound, nickname possibilities (I love all of them tbh) and history. Unlike the above poster, I prefer it for a first name because BECAUSE it’s so popular/timeless it seems like a filler MN - like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (in my area, at least).
It’s one of the most classic names there are, so for me it’s pretty impossible to hate, but it’s also hard to fall in love with.
I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], obviously. It’s a strong classic with many wonderful nicknames. I love having many historical and literary Elizabeths to teach her about as she grows older – shared name role models, in a sense!
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is common insofar as I know a few women of all ages with the name. But it’s not so popular that there’s a saturation – it’s not like [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] or [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] or [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], which were super popular for at least a decade.
My daughter is 19 months old and I’ve yet to meet another little girl named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and I doubt that she will every share a classroom with another [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and be forced to go by “[name_f]Libby[/name_f] X”.
I also feel that [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], and [name_f]Louise[/name_f], is more distinctive as a first name vs. being used as a common filler middle name.
But we all have different naming tastes and styles, and classic [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is always going to appeal to some parents and not others.
To me it is greatly overused, but somehow it’s still classic and charming. Not for me, but I see the appeal.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! It does t get much prettier than the classic [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and all her charming nicknames.
Whilst it is a classic, I have never ever liked this name.
I think, I just have a personal dislike for names with the Z sound in them - as I also dislike [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], etc. To me they sound harsh, and not at all feminine, which I know is probably opposite to what most people think.
However, most people would disagree with me, the general opinion is that you cannot go wrong with a good, solid, classic name choice. This is true in many ways, as it is a well recognised name, people know how to pronounce it and spell it, it is globally recognised, and there are loads of great nickname options. Also, as far as popularity goes, I don’t think I know any [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s under the age of 30, (I’m in Australia, and it’s probably more popular on the older generation here- or as a middle name for new kiddies) so you aren’t likely to have multiple children with the same name turn around when you call out her name at the playground!
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is fine but not stunning, that’s about how I feel. There’s nothing really memorable or striking about it, perhaps because of it’s popularity. I do like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], but I’ve never met an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and I know loads of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Lizzy[/name_f]'s, and [name_f]Beth[/name_f]'s.
I don’t like it. It’s too common for me. I don’t find it elegant, I find it boring tbh. Where I’m from, it seems like if your first name isn’t [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], your middle name is so it’s just overdone for me. I do like [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]/[name_f]Elsa[/name_f], and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] though.
I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It is strong, feminine, sophisticated, and elegant but can also be pretty and girly. Its a name that can suit many different people, and you can’t say that about many names!
I love it! I do prefer the [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] spelling, but I’ve been in love with the combo [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] for YEARS, so I might consider [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for that reason (plus, it makes more sense for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]? Which I adore.). But for all other reasons, I prefer [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]–I love the softer “S”, plus it honors my [name_m]French[/name_m] and [name_m]German[/name_m] ancestry, and [name_f]Ella[/name_f]/Liesey/[name_f]Lily[/name_f], my favorite nns for [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], all make either just as much sense (or even more!) with [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].
Then again, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is my absolute favorite girls’ name in the entire world, and has been since 2010, so I probably would never get a chance to use it (same for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], which I also love!). I met an adorable little [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] years ago, though, and I’m a huge fan. I’m very picky about my nns for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], though…
I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] A LOT. I don’t love it, but close to loving it. It’s one of those classics that popularity doesn’t matter, it will stick around forever. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] hangs with [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], and [name_m]William[/name_m] for me. It’s one of those names where you’ll never be able to guess her age.
I love the name [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but only as a nickname. I’d be perfectly happy having an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” in the future.
I will never seem dated, and there’s a nickname for every sort of girl.
If I’m honest really boring. It’s a boring name alongside [name_f]Jane[/name_f] , [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].
I would probably like it more if there wasn’t the matter of how common and popular it is…
