Honest Opinions on Master List, Part 1

I’m sure we all have a working list of our favorites…names we have always loved, or recently discovered, or read in novels or movie credits, or found here on nameberry!

I thought I’d share mine simply because I’m interested in others’ opinions of names and how these opinions are formed. Most of these are names I’d definitely use, but many are also just names that I’m fond of for one reason or another, but probably wouldn’t use for a variety of reasons. Since of course my list is ridiculously long I figured I’d break it down with maybe 15 or so at a time. I’m just curious to hear your particular thoughts on each one. Thanks so much!

  • [name]Abram[/name]/[name]Abraham[/name], possibly the first as a nn for the second
  • [name]Ari[/name]
  • [name]Atticus[/name]
  • [name]August[/name], nn [name]Gus[/name]
  • [name]Baxter[/name], possibly with nn [name]Bax[/name] (it means [name]Baker[/name] which is my maiden name)
  • [name]Bay[/name]
  • [name]Blaise[/name]/[name]Blaze[/name]
  • [name]Breccan[/name]
  • [name]Brenner[/name]
  • [name]Callum[/name], nn [name]Cal[/name]
  • [name]Cash[/name], as nn for [name]Cassius[/name] or [name]Cashel[/name]
  • [name]Chaz[/name]
  • [name]Connell[/name]
  • [name]Cormac[/name], nn [name]Mack[/name]

[name]Hi[/name]

  • [name]Abram[/name]/[name]Abraham[/name] - I love [name]Abram[/name] a lot more than [name]Abraham[/name] right now because I am favouring shorter names at the moment, but [name]Abraham[/name] nn [name]Abram[/name] is really cool.

  • [name]Ari[/name] - I like it, but I know a little girl called [name]Aria[/name] whose nn is [name]Ari[/name], so to me it seems a little bit feminine.

  • [name]Atticus[/name] - I know this is very popular on nameberry but I really only like it as a middle name, I love To Kill a Mockingbird but I just don’t see [name]Atticus[/name] is a really cool name, but as a middle name I think it is amazing

  • [name]August[/name], nn [name]Gus[/name] - one of my fave names!! [name]Gus[/name] as a nickname is the coolest thing ever!

  • [name]Baxter[/name], possibly with nn [name]Bax[/name] (it means [name]Baker[/name] which is my maiden name) - So cool, I’m usually not a fan of names ending in -er but [name]Baxter[/name] is an exception, I love it!

  • [name]Bay[/name] - I think this is pretty girly, sorry!

  • [name]Blaise[/name]/[name]Blaze[/name] - the meaning of [name]Blaise[/name] really puts me off, but [name]Blaze[/name] to me is more of a word name, so I prefer [name]Blaze[/name] over [name]Blaise[/name], both are cool though, if you don’t care about meanings.

  • [name]Breccan[/name] - too place-y for me, I just think of [name]Brecon[/name] in [name]Wales[/name], it has a nice sound though

  • [name]Brenner[/name] - reminds me too much of the girls name [name]Brenna[/name], and I am not a fan of -er names.

  • [name]Callum[/name], nn [name]Cal[/name] - I think [name]Callum[/name] is great, it would probably be on my list if it wasn’t so popular in [name]England[/name], [name]Cal[/name] is a fantastic nn

  • [name]Cash[/name], as nn for [name]Cassius[/name] or [name]Cashel[/name] - I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Cashel[/name], I think [name]Cassius[/name] is great too but I think you would get a lot of pronunciation problems. If I used [name]Cashel[/name], [name]Cash[/name] would probably be an occasional nn but I don’t love it.

  • [name]Chaz[/name] - I want to like this more, because I love the letter Z but it feels way to nicknamey to me, maybe as nn for [name]Charles[/name], I think that would be cool.

  • [name]Connell[/name] - Prefer [name]Conall[/name] but I think [name]Connell[/name] is nice too, and a great alternative to [name]Connor[/name]

  • [name]Cormac[/name], nn [name]Mack[/name] - love, love, love! Cannot fault this one at all, very high up on my personal list

I love your list so much, my favourites are [name]Abram[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Baxter[/name], [name]Cashel[/name] and [name]Cormac[/name], you have good taste!

  • [name]Abram[/name]/[name]Abraham[/name], possibly the first as a nn for the second
I prefer just [name]Abram[/name], it’s more manageable as a first name, plus it already has it’s own nicknames: [name]Abe[/name] and [name]Bram[/name] (Which I really like
    [name]Ari[/name]
Interesting choice, and its actually a name I love. Nice alternative to [name]Leo[/name]. They have the same meaning and same length.
  • [name]Atticus[/name]
I’ve never really loved this, but its not bad.
  • [name]August[/name], nn [name]Gus[/name]
I like it. [name]Gus[/name] is cool.
  • [name]Baxter[/name], possibly with nn [name]Bax[/name] (it means [name]Baker[/name] which is my maiden name)
I don’t know. It feels a little too surname-ish to me. [name]Bax[/name] seems forced.
  • [name]Bay[/name]
Feels too insubstantial for a first name.
  • [name]Blaise[/name]/[name]Blaze[/name]
Not bad. A name I could see a little boy thinking is awesome because of the fire connation, but my ex has [name]Blaine[/name] as a middle, which is similar, and he hates it.
  • [name]Breccan[/name]
I dislike it. Feels like a forced way to have [name]Brendan[/name], but still be cool.
  • [name]Brenner[/name]
    Same as above.
  • [name]Callum[/name], nn [name]Cal[/name]
I think [name]Cal[/name] is fine, dont love [name]Callum[/name] though
  • [name]Cash[/name], as nn for [name]Cassius[/name] or [name]Cashel[/name]
Could work. I like [name]Cassius[/name] better.
  • [name]Chaz[/name]
    No.
  • [name]Connell[/name]
    Similar feelings to [name]Baxter[/name].
  • [name]Cormac[/name], nn [name]Mack[/name]
I like it. [name]Mack[/name] is a cool nickname. I could see this actually catching on if people think of it.
