Honest opinions on the name Halcyon?

I’m really into this name lately, I love the story behind it and the mystical feel it has. What do you think about it? Also, do you think the nickname [name]Hallie[/name] is inevitable?

I love [name]Halcyon[/name]! I think that the sound of it is gorgeous, and I would be delighted to meet one.

I’m not sure how automatic the nickname [name]Hallie[/name] would be. I’d like to think not very, but I’m not sure. It’s three syllables and probably rather out there for most people, but at the same time since most people won’t be familiar with it I don’t think that they’ll automatically use a nickname in the same way that someone might call someone [name]Kate[/name] when she’s introduced herself as [name]Katherine[/name].

I don’t especially like [name]Hallie[/name] as a nickname (I don’t hate it either), but I do think that just [name]Hal[/name] would be a pretty cute nickname for [name]Halcyon[/name].

I like [name]Halcyon[/name] a lot - it’s slightly too out there for me to use personally, but I’d love to see it on someone else’s kid. I don’t love [name]Hallie[/name], but I think Halcy would be cute.

I like the name a lot, and I actually really love the nickname [name]Hallie[/name] if you planned on using the name for a little girl but I think you could avoid it by either using a different nickname or just correcting people when they try to call her [name]Hallie[/name]. Halcy is cute. [name]Hal[/name], not so much for a girl.

Halcy is cute, I prefer [name]Hal[/name] over Haliie. [name]Do[/name] you think people would find the name too weird or unpronounceable? I’ve had bad experiences with people pronouncing names around here…

I love [name]Halcyon[/name]! For a boy. To me, it’s a very boyish, masculine name, [name]Hal[/name] for short.

I can see it on a boy or a girl. The first time I heard it was on a movie and it was a woman, so it’s a female name in my mind.

All I can think of when I see this name is the Rx drug name Halcion (used often for sleep issues–it is a benzodiazepine, ie: Valium).
Sorry!
