I have a few boy names I like but feel they might be a bit too ‘out there’. I usually like names that aren’t too common but at the same time aren’t unfamiliar.
[name_m]Can[/name_m] you imagine a baby/little boy/teen adult called:
[name_u]August[/name_u] or [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] - I love names beginning with ‘A’ and the nickname [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. I’m not sure which I prefer because I’d rather stay away from month names (I still like it though) but [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] looks like it has too many ‘Us’
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - I love this, but I’d like to know if it feels too rough for a young boy
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] - too much of a ‘famous person’ name? I love it and [name_m]Len[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as nicknames
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - love how it’s written but haven’t heard of anyone using it, too old fashined?
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] - fell in love with this name because of this show called Sex Education
[name_u]Remington[/name_u] - I just love [name_u]Remi[/name_u] as a nickname so much
[name_u]Jasper[/name_u] - it’s cute??
Thanks for your feedback [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to share your favorite less common boys’ names for inspiration!
Most of these rank fairly high in the US, so they’re definitely not too out there. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] rank the lowest in terms of popularity off your list.
August - love!
Augustus - not my favourite, but there’s nothing wrong with it.
Frederick - not my favourite. I prefer just [name_u]Freddie[/name_u].
Leonardo - not too much of a famous person name! It ranked #86 last year, so there’ll be plenty of others, not just DiCaprio & da [name_m]Vinci[/name_m]. Not my favourite, but nothing wrong with it.
Wesley - love! I don’t see it as old fashioned at all. It was #99 last year, so lots of other people feel the same
Otis - I like it, but it’s not my favourite.
Remington - not for me. I like a lot [name_u]Remy[/name_u], though!
Jasper - it’s nice, but not my favourite.
I can imagine a person of all ages with any of these names.
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] but don’t like [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_u]Remington[/name_u] with nn [name_u]Remy[/name_u] and [name_u]Jasper[/name_u]. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Fredrick[/name_m] but I like the nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. Also love [name_m]Leo[/name_m] but not [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]. [name_m]Otis[/name_m] is okay.
I absolutely love [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] ( [name_m]Otis[/name_m] is so distinctive in a good way). They both sound cute for a baby, classic and handsome for a man. Also, I like the nick names for [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]: [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_m]Len[/name_m], and [name_u]Lenny[/name_u]. Im sorry but I strongly dislike [name_u]Jasper[/name_u].
August/Augustus - I really like the name [name_u]August[/name_u], I know 2 people (1 guy and 1 girl) with it so it’s not too uncommon. Not as big a fan of [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] I watched [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and the Chocolate Factory way too much so I just imagine [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] Gloop.
Frederick - I like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], not love. I don’t think it sounds rough though
Leonardo - This is one of those names where I like the nickname not as big a fan of the name. However if you love it I definitely don’t think it is too much of a famous person name
Wesley - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name! I always liked [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]/Westley and it would definitely be on my list if a friend didn’t already name her son this.
Otis - I didn’t like it much when I first heard it but it’s definitely growing on me
Remington - Also love the nickname [name_u]Remi[/name_u] - I don’t hate [name_u]Remington[/name_u] but it feels a bit posh to me
Jasper - [name_u]Love[/name_u]! Still on my list!
Some of my favorite names that are familiar but aren’t too common are:
August/Augustus-I prefer [name_u]August[/name_u]! I’m with you, [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] has way too many “us”. I actually really like [name_u]August[/name_u] as well!
Frederick-[name_u]Love[/name_u] this name!! Has cute nn [name_m]Fred[/name_m], [name_u]Red[/name_u], [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_m]Rick[/name_m], etc.
Leonardo-I think the popularity of [name_m]Leo[/name_m] has no longer confined it to just a famous person’s name! I think this one is very handsome
Wesley-[name_u]Love[/name_u] this one! Try saying it out loud a lot! [name_u]Love[/name_u] nn [name_m]Wes[/name_m]!
Otis-I like this one! I think it works on all ages!
Remington-[name_u]Remi[/name_u] is very cute! This one I struggle with the full name for a little kid but I think the older you get it gets better
Jasper-This one is lovely! I’ve heard nn [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] with it before, and I think it ages great!
August / [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] & [name_u]Remington[/name_u] = 10/10 Their on my list, I absolutely love them!
Frederick = 5/10 I prefer the spelling [name_m]Fredrick[/name_m].
Leonardo = 6/10 Since [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is so popular right now, I like this as a full name for the nickname. It does have the ‘famous person’ association, but it’s still a lovely and handsome name!
Wesley & [name_m]Otis[/name_m] = 3/10 they just don’t stand out to me.
Jasper = 1/10 I know it’s been over 10 years, but all I can think is Twilight.
August- I love this name! I think its so handsome and strong without being too popular.
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]- I like this name too but don’t love it for some reason. This one gives more of a royal/formal feel to me.
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]- I really like this! I like how its unique but familiar. I can’t really picture it on a little boy because it feels really formal but the nn [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is cute for a kid.
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m]- So sweet and handsome! I like how it has a cool vibe yet still sounds professional and definitely don’t think its too old fashioned.
[name_m]Otis[/name_m]- not a fan. It feels cutesy to me.
[name_u]Remington[/name_u]- I prefer on a girl.
[name_u]Jasper[/name_u]- love! Its on my list. So classic yet not overly common.
August/Augustus - I prefer [name_u]August[/name_u], I actually knew an [name_u]August[/name_u] back in school! Honestly, despite it being a month name, I really do think its such a lovely name.
Frederick - This was my grandfathers name, and it suited him very well! I prefer [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], but I know that comes across to ‘nickname-y’ for many. I think [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is a little bit rough for a young boy, but theres countless nicknames to choose from, and its just such an awesome name.
Leonardo - I dont know… not really my cup of tea. [name_m]Len[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] tug at my heartstrings though, very cute.
Wesley - I love the nn ‘[name_m]Wes[/name_m]’ for [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]! Often with names I fall in love with a nn but the longer variants never give me that same effect, but thats not the case with [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], it caught my eye right away!
I actually dont find it old fashioned at all, its not modern by any means but it doesnt seem dated.
Otis - ahh! [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name, im not quite sure what else to say!
Remington - Loove [name_u]Remy[/name_u], but dont love [name_u]Remington[/name_u] (see, I fall in love with the nn, not so much the name) It also reminds me too much of the word lamington.
Jasper - Its growing on me, I used to not like this name but its giving me the most rambunctious and wild vibes in the best way possible lately.
It’s funny because in my country ([name_f]English[/name_f] speaking) [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] is not popular at all, I’ve never met a child with the name. Thanks for your comment!
One thought I had though. If [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] don’t quite feel right to you, what about [name_m]Augusten[/name_m] or [name_m]Augustin[/name_m]?
August/Augustus- I much prefer [name_u]August[/name_u] personally. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] has just always felt like too much
Frederick- I actually heard this on a little boy while on vacation a couple years ago. It’s not my style but it didn’t strike me as odd to hear the father calling to a toddler named [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
Leonardo- it does feel quite DiCaprio or da [name_m]Vinci[/name_m] to me. But, I guess before DiCaprio, it was purely da [name_m]Vinci[/name_m] so maybe he’ll become the next great [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] lol. I prefer just [name_m]Leo[/name_m] personally
Wesley- doesn’t strike me as old fashioned at all! It feels more country to me actually. I really like it
Otis- this is one that could be so “uncool” that it’s “cool” but it doesn’t quite make that 180 for me yet…
Remington- I’ve actually known 2 or 3 Remingtons. They were all girls but either way, the name doesn’t strike me as too out there. They all went by [name_u]Remi[/name_u]/Remy too
August/Augustus-I love [name_u]August[/name_u]. It’s so handsome, classic, great on any age, soft & gentle yet a little rugged & adventurous at the same time. [name_u]Gus[/name_u] is so cute. I like [name_m]Augie[/name_m] too. I think that [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is a bit more regal & unique. It’s maybe too complex for me personally. But like I said; I do like that it’s more unique.
Frederick-It’s a little bit bold for a little fella, but do you like [name_m]Fred[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]? I can especially picture [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] on a kid. I think that [name_m]Fred[/name_m] is quirky & friendly. [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is handsome, but I wouldn’t use unless you also like the nns.
Leonardo-I don’t know…I think it may be too much of a famous person name. I didn’t realize that that’s why I don’t like it, but it may just be it. It’s just a little too dramatic or something. I do like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (ooh, or [name_m]Lad[/name_m] as a nn!). [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is cute to me on its own, honestly.
Wesley-I think it’s charming. Not too old fashioned at all. It sounds fresh to me, really.
Otis-It’s quirky, simple yet unique, & just adorable. I like it a lot.
Remington-I really like just [name_u]Remy[/name_u] as a full name. [name_u]Remington[/name_u] sounds a little too posh.
Jasper-I’m in the minority here, but I don’t care for it. It reminds me of the word jester. I kind of like [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] though.
I feel like [name_u]Remington[/name_u], [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Westley[/name_m] all are on trend and age well and have nicknames that are super popular.
August is cool. I like [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] also but I have never felt the nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u] will fare well into teenage-hood honestly. [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] might be better but its kind of a dog name for me. I share this frustration with you though as I love the name [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. [name_u]August[/name_u] might just be a good nickname though - does it have to super shortened to [name_u]Gus[/name_u] you know?
I know [name_m]Fredrick[/name_m] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] are also coming back into style so I’m sure he would be in good company but these personally aren’t my favorites.
Jasper is getting really popular too. [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] and [name_m]Casper[/name_m].
I think based on name styles and popularity all these names will be fine in this generation honestly!
