Honest Thoughts Of These Names?

Lately, I’ve been drawn to names that I never would have considered a few months ago. I’m a bit weary of a few of them, so before I add them to my list, I feel like I need some input on them. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to be as critical as you’d like, because none of these are really at the point of serious consideration yet.

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]
[name_f]May[/name_f] (note, I dislike the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] spelling immensely)
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]

If you have any suggestions at all, that would be great!

I adore [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] have a feminine, classy, spunky flair.

I like [name_f]May[/name_f] - I, too, dislike the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] spelling (though I love [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]), but prefer it in the middle spot, it sounds a little short on its own.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] sounds very stiff and colonial, to me. I imagine her as a stern schoolteacher.

The others are all tied to pop culture references, to me. [name_u]Billie[/name_u] is [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] Bye Bye [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], and [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] Moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] looks like a misspelling of [name_f]Birdie[/name_f].

Thanks for the input  the pop culture doesnt bother me too much, except Moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] a bit :stuck_out_tongue: thanks again!

I adore [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is so cute!

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]- don’t like it, it reminds me of moaning myrtle off of harry potter
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]-i think its so much more original than [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f]/[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. i like [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]- i love this! Bbusy [name_m]Phillips[/name_m] named her daughter [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] and i think it goes perfectly
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]- I have mixed feelings about this name.
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]- i think this is lovely on a girl! i love [name_u]Billie[/name_u]-[name_u]Rae[/name_u] but [name_f]Miley[/name_f]'s dad pops into my head! [name_u]Billie[/name_u]-[name_u]Jo[/name_u] is another i like.
[name_f]May[/name_f]- i absolutley love this name for all ages!! i also like the spelling [name_f]Mae[/name_f] a lot more! i hate it when people spell it [name_f]Mai[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]- cute but a little too old fashioned for me sorry
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]- love the meaning! it means star in italian. i also like the look ofthe name. although where i’m from theres a beer called [name_f]Stella[/name_f]

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]- harry potter/ myrtlebeach
In sound I sort of like it though
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]-I thought it was birdie at first don’t really like this one
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]- this ones growing on me
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]-I love this it sets a picture of a garden in my mind
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]- I know 2 many male [name_u]Billy[/name_u]'s
[name_f]May[/name_f]-I love the name it’s one of my favs but with the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] spelling
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]- I know it’s a classic but I always think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] will you marry me
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]-I absolutely love [name_f]Stella[/name_f]

I’ve been crushing on a lot of these recently, too. They’re all great names!

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] - one of my favourites. A sweet vintage nature names that’s definitely clunky but I think all the more charming for it. Very distinctive but fits well with the names in your signature. Also, I’m a pretty big HP fan and the Moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] reference doesn’t bother me too much, although it’s definitely something to consider as it does seem to be most people’s overriding association with the name.

[name_f]Bridie[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - adorable and fit perfectly with your other names. They’ll be too cutesy for some but I know that’s not an issue for you so I say go for it. Personally, I prefer the sound of [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] but [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] might be a little more widely accepted what with the popularity of bird/nature names and the singer.

[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - I like this but it’s not my favourite on the list. It’s not one of my favourite flowers in general so that probably doesn’t help, but the “gold” at the end trips me up. To me it feels more like a pet name. Having said that, it goes well with a lot of other names on your list and could be a nice way to use three of your new considerations (I’m not sure how you feel about using nns for longer names but [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] could work for [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]).

[name_u]Billie[/name_u] - definitely my favourite. I love the playfulness of it and the fact that it feels tomboyish while still having plenty of traditional use for girls. It matches your other names well, and I actually like the association with [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] but I shouldn’t worry about it even if you don’t - it seems unlikely many people will make the connection.

[name_f]May[/name_f] - cute but feels a little simple, even plain, compared to some of your other names.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] - a beautiful, classic name with great history and namesakes that I think is ready for a little revival. It’s always refreshing to see [name_f]Mary[/name_f] on a young girl.

[name_f]Stella[/name_f] - another I’ve been warming up to recently. A little trendy but not overly so, and it still has a lovely vintage feel to it.

[name_f]My[/name_f] order of preference would be:
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

consideration yet.

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] - best of the bunch but I prefer [name_f]Maude[/name_f] / [name_f]Maudlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f] - I here old [name_f]Biddie[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - too nicknamey
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - just okay
[name_u]Billie[/name_u] - too boy. Makes me think of billie goats
[name_f]May[/name_f] - completely agree about [name_f]Mae[/name_f]… But [name_f]May[/name_f] is still too lack luster.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] - classic
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] - streetcar.

Despite none of them really being in my style, my favourites out of these would be;

[name_f]Bridie[/name_f] - really growing on me right now
[name_f]May[/name_f] - although I do like it better in the MN spot
and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] - I like the meaning behind it.

[name_u]Billie[/name_u] is another that is starting to grow on me but I’m still not sure about it due to the [name_u]Billie[/name_u] goat and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] references.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] - too old school for me but it’s far from unusable
[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] - just think of moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] and don’t really like the sound of it
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - not a fan of those type names
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - too “flowery” for me

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] would be a better middle because of moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], and quite like [name_u]Billie[/name_u] ([name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u]'s awesome), and [name_f]May[/name_f] (although I prefer the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] spelling :P). [name_f]Mary[/name_f] I kind of like because of characters, but I can’t help but hear mare-y now for some reason. It’s pretty much the opposite for [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]. Because of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] I keep hearing ‘moaning’ preceding it . :stuck_out_tongue: And I’m not sure why but I really dislike [name_f]Stella[/name_f]; it might have something to do with the drink, but I don’t like the sound either. I do love the meaning though. Sorry, I feel like I’m being a bit mean, but none of them are awful, I’m just not a fan of some of them, even though a few are my style.

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] - I’m starting to really like this, it’s got a wonderful meaning. I also have really strong imagery for [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] that you could probably take as good or bad; half of me sees her as very witchy like [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] and [name_f]Mildred[/name_f], the other half I see a chain-smoking bad ass woman from the 1950s. They’re both positive in my book  A big reason I like it is because I’d actually love my own name to be [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f].
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - never really liked either of these, of the two I prefer [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. I find [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]/[name_f]Brigid[/name_f] really dated and assosiate these names with each other.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - very pretty, I adore [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] (in the same way I love [name_f]Queenie[/name_f])
[name_u]Billie[/name_u] - I adore this one, enough said  It’s got so much personality.
[name_f]May[/name_f] - I used to be a big fan, I still think it’s gorgeous - only yesterday I was thinking of readding this at some point. [name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_u]Del[/name_u] [name_m]Rey[/name_m] released an album under the name [name_f]May[/name_f] Jailer before she was famous, so I associate the name quite heavily with that. I dislike the [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Mai[/name_f] spellings too. I’ve considered it as a nn for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] before.
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] - Eh, I feel neutral. I don’t hate it, but I wouldn’t like my own name to be [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Mara[/name_f] or [name_f]Mairi[/name_f] a lot.
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] - I adore [name_f]Estella[/name_f] but feel neutral about this.

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]- I can only think of Moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]…
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]- I always think this is [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]- totally NMS
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]- okay, not a favorite
[name_u]Billie[/name_u] - if it was not for [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] I would hate this name
[name_f]May[/name_f] - I really like it, it’s a little bit unexpected in the first name spot
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] - neutral
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]- So cute!! I seem to love all “star” names

I love:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f](sorry, I dislike the [name_f]May[/name_f] spelling)

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]- Sorry, I still think of Moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], and it reminds me of the name [name_f]Muriel[/name_f], as in [name_f]Muriel[/name_f]'s Wedding.
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]- A bit close to [name_f]Bride[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f].
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]- I really like [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]: spunky, sassy and unique.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]- NMS, as I tend not to like names with ‘gold’ in it, but I can see its appeal.
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]- I love [name_u]Billie[/name_u]: it has a really slick aura of jazzy cool. I love the combo [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_f]Mavis[/name_f].
[name_f]May[/name_f]- I like it, but I don’t love it, and I would only ever use it for a [name_f]May[/name_f] baby. I have seen [name_f]May[/name_f] / [name_f]Mae[/name_f] on here so much that I am a bit weary of it. It is still lovely though, I have just always much preferred [name_f]Faye[/name_f] / [name_f]Fay[/name_f] / [name_f]Fae[/name_f].
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]- I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u], love, love. I have only known one [name_f]Mary[/name_f] my age, and she wore it so well, with such zip and zeal that I will eternally love this name. Her nn was Mez / Mezzy Mouse, but I love [name_f]Mamie[/name_f], or just [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]- Not a big fan. To me, it is still tied to the episode of Seinfield: ‘[name_f]STELLA[/name_f]!’. You might not know what I mean though.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites of your choices are [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f].

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]: I wish I liked this name more, it seems very old fashioned and somewhat nasal, but might be cute on a little kid. Honestly, I like the way it looks, but I have trouble imagining it on a person.

[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]: Too feminine/nicknamey for my taste. I also have an automatic no-switch for names such as this one which have R’s in difficult spots which make the name difficult to pronounce for kids who have difficulty with that sound. “[name_f]My[/name_f] name is Bwiddie” stops sounding cute when you reach a certain age.

[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]: OK as a nickname, though it doesn’t really register as a name, and it feels a little infantile.

[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]: I absolutely love this name. But make sure that the child has a quirky personality to suit!

[name_u]Billie[/name_u]: tough and somewhat working-class, not a bad thing. Also very cute.

[name_f]May[/name_f]: I prefer stronger girl names but it doesn’t seem like you do so that seems fine; I would also suggest this as a nickname and something more substantial for the whole name. A girl named [name_f]May[/name_f] seems wispy and transparent.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f]: I like this name; you should know it comes across as very traditional, buttoned-up, ordinary, and Catholic.

[name_f]Stella[/name_f]: wore out in the 80’s, I think. There are new glamor-girl names–that’s what this seems like. I’d suggest [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]- I’m a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan so yeah moaning [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f] is my biggest association with the name
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]- Can’t get around the first syllable ([name_f]Bride[/name_f]) sounds like all you want for your daughter would be for her to be a bride
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]- Prefer this as a nickname for [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], and like it alot more that [name_f]Bridie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]- I really love this name, even though the flower isn’t as pretty as the name
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]- I just think [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] thanks to [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who, it’s a really nice name and would consider using it
[name_f]May[/name_f]- I’m with you on preferring this spelling a lot more, I love this name (and [name_u]June[/name_u]) lovely choice
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]- It’s a nice name and would like to see it being used more, I met a 4 year old [name_f]Mary[/name_f] earlier this year and it just sounded so fresh
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]- Out of your list this name is much more my style, the only negative association with it is [name_f]Stella[/name_f] Atrois lager which has a wife beater beer reputation from where I’m from- don’t know if this is a universal association. Saying that I still can seperate the name from the beer and love the meaning of this name

Thank you everyone, I’ve decided to go with [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_u]Billie[/name_u], but still thinking about [name_f]Bridie[/name_f]/[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] and [name_u]Billie[/name_u]

I have previously suggested [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] to my OH before but his comment was something along the lines of “is that a nickname for a bride”? That put an end to that name for me :frowning:

[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]- really not a fan, I just think if myrtle beach and don’t like the sound of it
[name_f]Bridie[/name_f]- i just don’t get this name, I’ve never heard of it.
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]- I think birdie is so cute, but as a nick name, not a full name.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]- beautiful beautiful beautiful
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]- I don’t even like it for boys let alone girls, maybe it’s just my bad associations with the name
[name_f]May[/name_f]- I think [name_f]May[/name_f] is sweet
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]- one of the names I dislike most of any name
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]- has always been one of my favorites, love [name_f]Stella[/name_f]
