My husband and I were talking this morning about the possibility of me being pregnant (3 days to AF…we’ll see) because I have been having very suspicious symptoms the past few days (similar, suspicious symptoms…) I won’t be upset either way, we were planning on TTC in the [name]Spring[/name] anyway…it would just be way sooner than planned. Anyway…
The topic went to names and we happened to be watching X-files reruns, and when the credits showed “[name]Gillian[/name] [name]Anderson[/name]” and said I liked the name [name]Gillian[/name]. He perked right up and said “Me too… I could name my kid [name]Gillian[/name].” So, now I’m kinda obsessed with the name [name]Jillian[/name]/[name]Gillian[/name]… is it too common? [name]How[/name] many people do you know with the name? Which way should I spell it? Is it plain or boring? I’m kind of leaning to the [name]Jillian[/name] spelling but I know the G version is older and more original.
I quite like the J spelling but both make the same sound so I guess I don’t really have a preference. I knew one [name]Gillian[/name] (with a G) at college. She was a fun, bubbly art student so I have a good association with the name
In 2012, I perceive [name]Jillian[/name]/[name]Gillian[/name] as a kind of hidden gem. Soft, Celtic-sounding, 3-syllables, not trendy in the least, still recognizable. But my guess is that most respondents will tell you it’s dated. I know only one woman with the name, 27 years old, always goes by the full name, a beautiful person.
I would spell it [name]Jillian[/name] if you spell it with a ‘G’ she will always have to correct the spelling… I think it would make it more difficult for her and you.
I’m going to be a dissenter and say that if you go with this name, you HAVE to use the [name]Gillian[/name] spelling! [name]Rowan[/name] (love, love, love) is such a traditional Celtic name that I don’t think you can go “trendy Celtic” with a sib.
I love the name [name]Jillian[/name]/[name]Gillian[/name]. I honestly don’t prefer one spelling over the other. Personally I don’t love [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Jillian[/name]/[name]Gillian[/name] together, but that’s just me.
I’ve noticed you’ve got [name]Joss[/name] in your siggy, in blue, for a boy? I’ve always loved the name [name]Joss[/name] for a girl. And I think [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Joss[/name] sound awesome together.
I love [name]Jillian[/name] (prefer this spelling but I like it with a G too) I don’t know anyone named [name]Jillian[/name] so I don’t think it is common. [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Jillian[/name] sound WONDERFUL together
[name]Jillian[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name] is on my short list and has been for years. As of late, I have been toying around with using the [name]Gillian[/name] spelling instead, but either way, I simply adore the name. I only know one [name]Jillian[/name] and she is about 7 now. When she was born was when the name snuck onto my list.
I really like this name (due to X-Files associations as well) and I have to vote for the [name]Gillian[/name] spelling especially with [name]Rowan[/name]. [name]Even[/name] though they sound the same, [name]Jillian[/name] just seems like a dated trendy version whereas [name]Gillian[/name] would be a fresh classic choice. I think you had mentioned it in another thread at one point, but if I remember correctly another 4 letter name you liked would be a perfect with this as well as [name]Rowan[/name]'s middle name. I am loving [name]Gillian[/name] [name]Cora[/name] as a potential sister! =]

[name]Even[/name] though they sound the same, [name]Jillian[/name] just seems like a dated trendy version (to me it has a very 90’s mom feeling, along the lines of [name]Marcia[/name] or [name]Donna[/name]). Whereas [name]Gillian[/name] seems like it would be a fresh “bringing back the classics” choice.
I think at some point you had mentioned liking this name in a different thread, so if I remember correctly it could be a lovely match up to [name]Rowan[/name]'s 4-letter mn… I am loving [name]Gillian[/name] [name]Cora[/name] as a potential sister! =]
I’ve never thought much about the name, (although it was my grade four teacher’s name) until recently when a young woman, unfortunately got raped and murdered here in [name]Victoria[/name], Australia. It quite literally was the crime of the decade here in Australia and it was all of the media. While watching the news, (or reading the newspaper) I decided that [name]Gillian[/name] is such a gorgeous name, now that the media has died down, I still do think of it as a quirky, (but not too quirky) rather elegant name.
I really like [name]Gillian[/name] (not [name]Jillian[/name] so much). I think [name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Gillian[/name] sound really nice together. And how awesome is [name]Gillian[/name] [name]Anderson[/name]!!
[name]Jillian[/name] is so underused and gorgeous! I do prefer it with a J because [name]Gillian[/name] looks like it should be pronounced like fish’s gill (to me, anyhow). [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Jillian[/name] is one of the best sibset combinations I’ve ever heard! So lovely.
That’s so sad… feel lucky you’re in Australia though, the US has something equally horrific almost everyday. [name]Just[/name] a few weeks ago, a nanny in NYC stabbed two little kids to death and then stabbed herself (she didn’t die though) I can’t even watch the news anymore…it tears my heart out to think of people hurting and neglecting children.
That’s the only reason I am even considering [name]Jillian[/name], because no matter how hard I try I can’t stop myself from pronouncing it like a fish gill. And I think it would confuse other people too.
