Honest thoughts on Wilhelmina Mae vs Louisa Marguerite and Theodore Russell for a boy

We want honest opinions so lay it on me!

We are expecting a baby in [name]December[/name] (team green). If it’s a boy we already have a boys name we are pretty set on: [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Russell[/name] nn [name]Theo[/name]. (I love “[name]Theo[/name]” and [name]Russell[/name] is my father’s name. [name]Russell[/name] is not really style but there is no one else we’d rather honor.) [name]Do[/name] you love it? Hate it?

If it’s a girl, we are still undecided but the current front runners are:

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name] (possible nn [name]LuLu[/name]. [name]Marguerite[/name] is a family name.)
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (definite nn [name]Willa[/name]. [name]Mae[/name] is not a family name.)

I’m generally opposed to filler middle names, but have grown to love [name]Wilhelmina[/name] nn [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Mae[/name] is the only thing I’ve found that works. And I would love calling a little girl [name]Willa[/name] [name]Mae[/name] too. Any suggestions? Our last name is one syllable starting with W. I think the alliteration works in this case…what do you think?

I know these names aren’t everyone’s style and there are definitely going to be family members who HATE all of these names. Please tell me your honest opinions so we can get an idea of the flack we’ll encounter from our family after baby is born!

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Russell[/name] - I adore both [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Theo[/name]! I think the “r” sound that ends [name]Theodore[/name] runs into the “r” sound that begins [name]Russell[/name]. Still, it’s a handsome combo, especially since [name]Russell[/name] is an honoring name.

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name] - Pretty. I like [name]Louisa[/name] a lot. This is my favorite of your two potential girl names.
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - Not a fan, sorry. [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is a mouthful, in my opinion. It reminds me of the mean lady from Ugly [name]Betty[/name]. [name]Willa[/name], on the other hand, is very sweet. Why not just go with [name]Willa[/name] [name]Mae[/name]? Or [name]Willa[/name] with another middle name, if you think it’s too short. However, if your last name is one syllable and starts with W, it might sound a bit sing-songy with [name]Willa[/name].

In which case, [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Russell[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name] are my favorites!

I really love [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name] <3 Mae is actually my mother’s middle name  And Willa Mae sounds gorgeous!

I like [name]Louisa[/name] more that [name]Wilhelmina[/name].

I love [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name]!

I love the name [name]Wilhelmina[/name] personally, however I think it’s a big name for a little girl to carry. I think it’s one of those names that is great and fun in theory, but one I’m not sure a whole lot of kids could really pull off. And if your kid ends up one of those kids that can’t, well…

[name]Louisa[/name] is lovely and much easier to live with. Plus, how adorable is [name]Lou[/name] or [name]Lula[/name] [name]Belle[/name] as a nn for a child?

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Russell[/name] is handsome and distinguished. [name]Love[/name] it!

I really like [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Russell[/name]. It’s strong and has good nn potential -especially with [name]Theo[/name].

[name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Wilhelmina[/name] both sound old to me. I’d have a hard time giving these names to a baby girl. Your nns work well though -[name]Lulu[/name] & [name]Willa[/name] [name]Mae[/name] are cute and spunky. Although, as a previous poster mentioned, [name]Willa[/name] would sound too matchy with a 1 syllable W- family name. Although I really like the mn [name]Mae[/name], it seems a bit odd to name a [name]December[/name] born baby “[name]May[/name]”. Other short names that would fit with [name]Wilhelmina[/name] might be [name]Joy[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Hope[/name]…

[name]Joy[/name] might be very appropriate and meaningful since I’m sure that your new baby will bring much joy to your entire family. Plus -she will be born in the holiday season

Thanks for the honesty! I love the sound of [name]Wilhelmina[/name] and I don’t think it’s TOO overwhelming, (though it IS a four syllable name) but I do see how the spelling is an eyeful. But DH and I are both totally against spelling it [name]Willamina[/name] - we refuse to be “yoonik”. We both (and the select family members we’ve told) [name]LOVE[/name] the nickname [name]Willa[/name]/[name]Willa[/name] [name]Mae[/name]. We just don’t want to give the nickname [name]Willa[/name] as the full name.
My friend says [name]Wilhelmina[/name] is very unexpected, but has the charm of another name that was on our list - [name]Eloise[/name]. She says it sounds like it could be the adorable name of a charming storybook character and I agree…and as far as pulling it off…i guess I just assume our daughter would be able to pull it off. (Maybe foolishly…) And I feel like [name]Wilhelmina[/name]/[name]Willa[/name] is not as far fetched as so many of the made up names I hear all the time…

hmmm…[name]Do[/name] other people think theres a problem with giving a december baby the middle name [name]Mae[/name]? That never occurred to me.

Consultantmeghan- Thanks for bringing up the R in theodore running into the R is [name]Russell[/name]. I hadn’t thought of that. I don’t think it’s a deal breaker but it is definitely something to be aware of when we’re choosing…

I love [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Russel[/name]- it’s great. And I think [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is just as good. Yes, it’s lengthy, but it’s a strong, classic, and royal name. And there are plenty of nicknames, like [name]Willa[/name], [name]Billie[/name], [name]Mina[/name], [name]Willie[/name], ect.

I think it’s fine to have [name]Mae[/name] as the middle name of a [name]December[/name] baby. It’s pretty, and it goes well with [name]Wilhelmina[/name].
[name]Hope[/name] that helps! You have good taste!

  • [name]Athena[/name]

I think all your options are great honestly:) I vote for [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name].

I don’t think it’s heavy since she plans on calling her [name]Willa[/name]… it would only be heavy if they plan to call her [name]Wilhelmina[/name] all the time

And the alliteration of [name]Wilhelmina[/name] or [name]Willa[/name] with a W last name? Rhymes with goods…

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name] is the way to go!

[name]Theodore[/name] [name]Russell[/name]–Adorable! I absolutely love that name and the nickname [name]Theo[/name]! It works well for all ages, he could go by [name]Theo[/name] as a kid and [name]Theodore[/name] as an adult. And [name]Russell[/name] is fine as well.

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name]–I’m not as big a fan of the name [name]Louisa[/name], but the nicknames [name]Lou[/name] or [name]Lulu[/name] are cute. Have you thought about the Scandinavian version, [name]Lovisa[/name]? I absolutely adore [name]Marguerite[/name], though! It’s one of my favorites!

[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name]–I love this name! [name]Willa[/name] is an adorable nickname and [name]Rae[/name] has always been one of my favorite mn options. I like this a little better than [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name], but I like the other name as well

All your names are lovely! [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Wilhelmina[/name] are two of my favourites and I love the NN [name]Minnie[/name] ([name]Willa[/name] is great too).

[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is nice, what about

[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Opal[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Violet[/name]

I think it’s fine and I’m gonna guess you last name is Woods? [name]Wilhelmina[/name] Woods sounds fine to me.

I think this is fine too - but with a one-syllable surname I would probably opt for a two-syllable middle name!

It sounds like you like [name]Wilhelmina[/name] best, and I do too! I’ve loved that name ever since I read [name]Enid[/name] Blyton’s [name]Mallory[/name] [name]Towers[/name] series when I was little. [name]Wilhelmina[/name]/[name]Bill[/name] was my idol! I think [name]Wilhelmina[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is a beautiful name  I don’t think it’s too much of a mouthful. My new goddaughter’s name is [name]Iole[/name], and some people gave her parents the side-eye when they chose it, but they came around! Her big sister [name]Phaedra[/name] calls her [name]Iole[/name]-ah, so she’s made a 4-syllable name all on her own! I think kids can handle big names, and she’ll only be small for a short time.

Not to be a besserwisser or something, but when people write what a lastname rhymes with and not the lastname itself, it’s usually because they don’t want their future child’s name to be on the internet…

I vote for [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Marguerite[/name]!
