Honey

Could it work for an actual name? It is my partners great grandmothers name. We were going over middle name options, and I was dancing around [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]… Then I kinda like [name_f]Honey[/name_f] as a first name, so what do you think about adding it to the first name list?

I know I probably need to be DECREASING the list, but I don’t think I could ever choose until it comes down to there being a nameless baby in the hospital.

Soo [name_f]Honey[/name_f]?
Am I crazy?
Middle names?

I would probably use [name_f]Honey[/name_f] as middle-name unless you are consciously honoring your husbands great-grandmother [name_f]Honey[/name_f]. I’m not generally opposed to all word names as fn’s but I do usually suggest them as mn’s. I think being [name_f]Honey[/name_f] in a professional world could either make things much harder or make them easier - i.e. it’s an odd name but as you are using the “right” spelling you might get some novelty look-see’s the average person might not. I think that if you balance [name_f]Honey[/name_f] with a more traditional fn or mn and give a future daughter the possibility to choose to go by her mn professionally if she wanted it could be sweet - no pun intended.

([name_f]My[/name_f] “god-brothers” grandmothers given name is [name_f]Lovie[/name_f] I don’t see how [name_f]Honey[/name_f] is that much different. Also people are naming their children [name_f]Apple[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], etc this is really not that much more out there).

Maybe [name_f]Honey[/name_f] should be a MN. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] doesn’t sound bad  Or you could name her [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with the pet name [name_f]Honey[/name_f]. I know someone named [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] who is called [name_f]Honey[/name_f] at home. But if you’re really sticking with [name_f]Honey[/name_f], nere are middles:
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Talullah[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Faline[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (too much food names?)
[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_f]Selene[/name_f]

I think it’s harder to pull off then some names, only because people may make assumptions about your background, which is completely unfair… Maybe, I would just be too chicken myself. I think it’d be nicest in the middle to honour your partner’s grandmother. However, it’s not crazy at all, it’s lovely you want to honour her.

If it’s honoring your partners great grandmother than yes, it can be a contender for first name.

I secretly love [name_f]Honey[/name_f].

It’s surprisingly popular in the UK - I have no idea why, but it’s at least within the top 200. I know a little [name_f]Honey[/name_f], her sister’s name is [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - kinda cute together.

If it wasn’t the name of a dog my parents used to have, it might even be on my list. I’d definitely use it (in the middle at least) if it has family significance for you.

I think Honey would make a nice middle name. I’m not crazy about it as a first name (I worry it’s too unprofessional), but you have the family significance to back it up and plus, as people have mentioned, it’s really not to different from names like Poppy and Belle. A good option is to use a double first name and pair Honey with something more “formal” sounding: making Honey-Charlotte / Charlotte-Honey a double first name, for instance.

You could also use Honey as a nickname, and put something like Honor, Honora, Honorine, Hermione, Honoka, or Persephone on the birth certificate.

Mel means “honey”, so you could pick something like Melia, Melita, Melissa, Melina, Pamela. Or something like Dulcie, Dulce, Dulcibel, Dulcibella, Dulcinea, meaning “sweet”.

I Want to be able to honor someone from his side because he has just stressed that it would be nice. That is his way of telling me it is important to him

We are working with

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (which I am not particularly fond of, but am willing to use it)
[name_f]Anne[/name_f] (I was thinking [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] as a middle name)
[name_f]Honey[/name_f]

We are fine with using any of the above as a middle name. I like [name_f]Honey[/name_f] the most, but don’t want her to hate us for it later.

I would DEFINITELY use [name_f]Honey[/name_f] as a middle and not a first. Some people have said that it’s ok because it is honoring a family member, but people you meet in the workplace or world are not going to know that and are going to make judgements accordingly. Plus, “honey” is frequently used as a condescending or dismissive way to address an adult woman (unless it is coming from a family member), so I would really want to stay clear of that. You want your daughter to be able to be taken seriously in this world, which is so different from the world a few generations ago.

I wasn’t aware of it being a condescending term. I have paired [name_f]Honey[/name_f] with all of our names in the middle spot, and none seem to sound right. He like “[name_f]Senna[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f]” but I don’t. Lol, and [name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] seems like a little much to me! If only I was a celebrity I could get away with it!

I agree with corylynn. If I heard a man call a woman “[name_f]Honey[/name_f]” in the workplace - any workplace - the first words in my mind would be “sexual harassment!” As a middle name though, sure, why not?

No kidding, they can get away with anything!

Any other thoughts?

I REALLY love honey. I have ummed and ahhed over using it as a first name or middle name. I too worry about having the name as a grown woman and whether or not she’d be taken seriously. I’m still seriously considering it as a middle name, just need to work out if it flows with the first name we’ve chosen. If so then it’s highly likely to be used. If only I could guarantee she wouldn’t have any hassle as an adult I’d use it as a first name in a heartbeat!

A little too cutesy, imo. Also, it just makes me think of [name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_u]Boo[/name_u] [name_u]Boo[/name_u]. I don’t really know anything about her except people usually don’t say [name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_u]Boo[/name_u] [name_u]Boo[/name_u] in a positive way.

Oh yeah I forgot about “that”
i haven’t ever watched her or ever really know who she is, but a lot of my friends quote her when they’re doing something ridiculous.
The only “[name_f]Honey[/name_f]” I have associations with is the dancing movie from several years ago, and she wasn’t exactly “business-y” to say th least.

[name_f]Honey[/name_f] as a middle name is gorgeous. It is quite popular over here so maybe I’m just used to hearing it, but I think its a great name. From your list, i think [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] are my absolutely favourites; [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f] would be amazing but its might be too quirky depending on taste.

And don’t worry about your list getting longer instead of shorter- enjoy it! I think its a good idea to cast as wide a net as possible until you find the one you both love. If I had a penny for everytime we changed our minds about our dd’s name when I was pregnant, oh my goodness I’d be a rich lady!

Btw, is [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] still on the table? I really liked that

I secretly love [name_f]Honey[/name_f] and think it could definitely be used in a middle spot!

I know a three year old named [name_f]Honey[/name_f], and she suits her name to a T. I think it’s cute, although it does seem more suited as a pet name to me. Her sister was called [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I think maybe you should find a first name that you love and either use [name_f]Honey[/name_f] in the middle spot or use it as a pet name.

I actually love [name_f]Honey[/name_f] as a fn! Many names ending in ‘ee’ feel cutesy but [name_f]Honey[/name_f] isn’t one of them. Since you like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], I think [name_f]Honey[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] (or without the hyphen) is a nice combo. In the middle spot, I love [name_f]Talullah[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f]
