Honor Middle Name for Caroline

Looking for an honor middle name for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I would like to honor my dad, [name_u]Gary[/name_u] [name_m]Eugene[/name_m], even if we have a girl (possible boy’s name is [name_m]Garrett[/name_m]). Thoughts on [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Gari[/name_u]? Other suggestions?

Thanks!

Caroline [name_u]Gari[/name_u] is sweet! Maybe you would like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] or [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] as well.

I was looking at this and thought you could use the name Garilyn! However then I realized “[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] Garilyn” might be a bit wordy. An idea I loved is the name Caroline Gray! It’s Gary with the A and the R switched and I think it’s such a soft name. It’s definitely a loved combo. Although I do have another suggestion! If I were to have a daughter named [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], her nn would be [name_f]Callie[/name_f] or maybe even [name_u]Rory[/name_u]. Something else you could do is have her go by [name_f]Carrie[/name_f]/Cary because then it rhymes with [name_u]Gary[/name_u]! It may not be the best option though bc [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] is associated with the bloody prom girl from [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] Kings novel called “[name_f]Carrie[/name_f]” and [name_u]Cary[/name_u] is usually the male spelling. I’m sure you’ll find a great honoring name for the little [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! Good luck!

Caroline [name_u]Gari[/name_u] is sweet! I second the suggestion of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]

Since the “Ar” sound from [name_u]Gary[/name_u] is [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], I feel like a name related to [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] would work nicely. I second [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]!

Caroline [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] would be my vote.

Caroline [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] or [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f] was my first thought.

Caroline [name_u]Gray[/name_u] is also a clever suggestion.

If you want too stretch it a little bit you might consider…

From [name_u]Gary[/name_u]…
Using the nn name [name_u]Cary[/name_u] for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Garland[/name_u]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Gervaise[/name_u]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Garbo[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Gardenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]’s [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]

From [name_m]Eugene[/name_m]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Genie[/name_u]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Taryn[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Owena[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]

Before reading the comments, I was also going to suggest [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]!
[name_m]Eugene[/name_m] means noble, so maybe a name with the same meaning like [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], or [name_f]Ada[/name_f]?

I don’t mind [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] as a nn! I’ve never heard of Garilyn before.

Love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]!

Thanks for the suggestions! I’m glad [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Gari[/name_u] isn’t too odd.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Garland[/name_u]

Hi there! [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is such a lovely name and I know it will mean much to your Dad for your desire to honor him.
I have the personal opinion that honor names should be as close to the one being honored as possible, so that a lengthy explanation is not needed. For example, [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] to honor [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] is brilliant. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] is absolutely lovely. I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Gari[/name_u], as it seems very masculine.

I think [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] or [name_m]Garrison[/name_m] if baby is a boy are perfect options for honoring [name_u]Gary[/name_u].

In my family’s tradition, we only worry about an honor initial. (Ex: naming your child [name_m]Jason[/name_m] after your aunt [name_u]Jean[/name_u].) So I think any girl’s name starting with G could work, unless you want it to be as close to [name_u]Gary[/name_u]/Eugene as possible, in which case I think the suggestions above are lovely! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] as a nickname to honor [name_u]Gary[/name_u].

Some other names starting with “eu”:

  • Eunice
  • Eulalia
  • Eulalie

Names similar to the “gene” in [name_m]Eugene[/name_m] (also, the ones starting with G could honor [name_u]Gary[/name_u]):

  • Ginevra
  • Gina
  • Georgina

Thanks for the advice! I agree on honor names being very similar to the name you’re honoring. I want it to be obvious who I am honoring. I don’t mind the masculinity of [name_u]Gari[/name_u] - my daughter has a masculine/unisex first name. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m just not sure I could get my husband on board with [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]. Plus, my dad’s middle, [name_m]Eugene[/name_m], he shares with his uncle who has since passed, so I think it’s a special connection that he might not want to share, if that makes sense.

Yes, I can understand maintaining that connection just between your Dad and his uncle. [name_u]Gari[/name_u] sounds like the perfect option!

Love Ginerva (big HP fan). [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] might be a little too matchy since they both sound like bordering states (I’m from one of those states and my husband is from the other).

That’s true, I didn’t think of that! Dang, I was going to suggest [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gina[/name_f], but then I realized it’s another state name…:joy:
