Honest opinion… If your MIDDLE name was after a very loved dog of your parents how would you feel? Basically we lost our dog to cancer 4 years ago, [name_m]Truman[/name_m], he was like our first baby and no pet will ever replace him… He went through college, marriage, miscarriages, military deployments etc with us… We are considering [name_m]Truett[/name_m] as a middle name for baby boy in honor of [name_m]Truman[/name_m] we’ve decided on [name_m]Ford[/name_m] as his first name in honor of his great grandmas maiden name… Would you be bothered if your parents did this?
I wouldn’t mind. If you had his middle name [name_m]Truman[/name_m] that might be a bit odd for him when he’s older but something like [name_m]Truett[/name_m] that’s sort of like it, is still unique enough to feel like its his own name, not the dog’s.
Lots of people give their dogs names that are special to the person-- I think it’s fine and wouldn’t mind. My nickname is very commonly used for dogs and that’s fine-- people love their pets and kids!
Eh, it’s one thing to reuse a pet’s name for a child just because you really love the name and regret not saving it, but to actually name a child in honor of a beloved pet… I think that is a little strange, honestly, and I would not be happy to be told I was named after an animal. On the other hand, [name_m]Truett[/name_m] and [name_m]Truman[/name_m] are different enough names, and if you love [name_m]Truett[/name_m] on its own, I see no problem with using it as your son’s middle name. I just wouldn’t say it was in honor of the dog.
