Honoring Hannah

What name would you use to honor a late [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], besides some of the more obvious choices like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (the meaning) or a different H name?

I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f], or one of its variants (depending on your location/heritage, maybe [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f], [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Ana[/name_f]ïs?) or elaborations/combinations ([name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Hannelore[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]/ [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], Annagret, [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Annelie[/name_f], [name_f]Hannele[/name_f] etc) would work well. Otherwise, maybe [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]?

Any variant of [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], etc. There are oodles of names in this category.

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] comes to mind, but it really only shares the the ‘ha’ with [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]…

You can use any [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] variants because they are the Anglicised (and such like) version of [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]. Such as…

[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_f]Annette[/name_f]
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]
[name_f]Aneta[/name_f]
[name_f]Annelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anita[/name_f]
[name_f]Anja[/name_f]/[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]

Or [name_f]Hanna[/name_f]?

[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]:

[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]

Also, I wonder what her middle name is. If it is [name_f]Marie[/name_f], you could do a first name of [name_f]Annmarie[/name_f] Or [name_f]Annamarie[/name_f]. Using her middle name for ideas might make it easier.

[name_f]Anna[/name_f] is a variant of [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], so any [name_f]Ann[/name_f]- or -anna name could work.

[name_f]Ann[/name_f]-
[name_f]Annika[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelinda[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f]
[name_f]Anita[/name_f]
[name_f]Annelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Annelore[/name_f]
[name_f]Anahi[/name_f]

  • ana/-anna
    [name_f]Adriana[/name_f]
    [name_f]Arianna[/name_f]
    [name_f]Dianna[/name_f]
    [name_f]Joanna[/name_f]
    [name_f]Johannah[/name_f]
    [name_f]Lianna[/name_f]
    [name_f]Marianna[/name_f]

Some of these share the meaning ‘grace’ and others are variations of “[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” -

[name_f]Alana[/name_f], [name_f]Amara[/name_f], [name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Ahna[/name_f], [name_f]Anaelle[/name_f], [name_f]Annalee[/name_f], Anavieve, [name_f]Annona[/name_f], [name_f]Audriana[/name_f], [name_f]Aubriana[/name_f], [name_f]Abriana[/name_f], [name_f]Aviana[/name_f], Anarosa
[name_f]Brianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Carissa[/name_f], [name_f]Charis[/name_f], [name_f]Cristiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Deanna[/name_f], [name_f]Danna[/name_f], [name_f]Doriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Floriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f], [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], Giavana, Gloriana, Grianne
Hannabeth
[name_u]Indiana[/name_u], [name_f]Ivanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Jamilla[/name_f], [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Jana[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u], [name_f]Jovana[/name_f], [name_f]Janessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Katana[/name_f], Kitanna, [name_f]Kianna[/name_f], [name_f]Kylie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lana[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Luciana[/name_f], Ludmilla
[name_f]Milana[/name_f], [name_u]Montana[/name_u], [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], Moahna, [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Nirvana[/name_f], [name_f]Nydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f], Oana, [name_f]Oceana[/name_f], [name_f]Oksana[/name_f], [name_f]Oliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhianna[/name_f], [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f], [name_f]Roxanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f], [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_u]Santana[/name_u], [name_f]Svetlana[/name_f], [name_f]Shawna[/name_f], [name_f]Sheana[/name_f], [name_f]Shona[/name_f], [name_f]Sian[/name_f], [name_f]Sinead[/name_f]
[name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_f]Tianna[/name_f], [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] (one of the Three Graces)
[name_f]Vanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Zana[/name_f]

I also like the idea of using a first and middle combo to make up all sounds of [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] – for example, [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Heather[/name_f] [name_f]Anabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Nadine[/name_f], [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f], etc.

You might also consider names associated with or with similar meanings to “grace” (and given there are several meanings, there’s a lot to explore here) – for example you could explore names associated with dance and music, famous ballerina names or ballet character names, names with meanings such as fluidity, etc… for example trees such as [name_u]Linden[/name_u] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f] (or [name_f]Willa[/name_f]) are commonly associated with gracefulness. Or you could look into names meaning compassion, forgiveness, blessed, mercy, kind, etc.

Others have probably already mentioned these, but I’d go with either [name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]

[name_f]Johannah[/name_f]???

We were trying to incorporate a way to honour a [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] into our girls’ names. We had planned to use ‘Hannaniah’, which is actually a male name but to me seems exponentially more beautiful for a girl. Unfortunately, we had way too many family members to honour and had to leave it out!

I think that [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a great idea! The most obvious choices for me are [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Johanna[/name_f]. Why don’t you just use [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]? It’s a beautiful name :).

Thank you all for such wonderful suggestions! I definitely love so many of these names and ideas.

Musicwaves, I agree it’s such a gorgeous name! I can’t quite pinpoint why, but using the exact name of someone who passed rather young and unexpectedly doesn’t feel quite right, like there’s just too much pain with the exact name. I prefer less direct honor names personally, though I understand why others prefer the opposite.
