My fiance’s best friend’s name was [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m]. Unfortunately, [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] was in a fatal car accident a couple years ago. As we have been talking about the future and babies and whatnot, my fiance asked about incorporating [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]‘s name into one of our future kids’ names. I love the sentiment, and I’ve always been a fan of names having deeper meanings than just “it sounds nice.” But… I hate the name [name_u]Jesse[/name_u]. I hate the name [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m]. Ack! What to do?
Any ideas on how to honor this dear friend? I am looking for both girls’ and boys’ suggestions. Thanks!
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if you hate both names, would you be opposed to them in the middle spot? I honestly don’t know many alternatives to [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] or [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] for boys (I guess other than [name_m]Floyd[/name_m]). As for girls, there’s [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], [name_f]Jessa[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f]…
What about using the “J.L.” initials for the first and middle?
Its a street h but maybe you could use the initials J.L. or find a name with a similar meaning to either [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] or [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m]?
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u] is believed to mean gift so [name_u]Dara[/name_u] (g), [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]/[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_m]Isidore[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and its variants, and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. For [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] there’s [name_u]Grey[/name_u]/[name_u]Gray[/name_u] or [name_m]Greyson[/name_m] since [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] means grey.
Maybe think of something that relates to something your fiance and his friend enjoyed or did together and see if any of those work.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the name enough to use is as a nn -or to let DH use it as a nn? You could give your child (boy or girl) the initials J.S. which, when you say them together, sound like [name_u]Jess[/name_u] -the nn [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] could come from that. I thought of that for a nn if we had named our son [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
I know! There are so few names that incorporate “jess”.
I had never considered using his initials before! I think that’s a fantastic idea.
I think following meanings would be a good route as well. And that is ironic about [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] meaning grey – gray was his favorite color, and his screennames were often grey_something!
I wouldn’t mind it so much as a nickname, I suppose. That’s a large part of the problem I have with the name [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] – it seems so incomplete.
