Honoring Laney?

There is a little girl (who is, och, so dear to my heart) named [name]Laney[/name] who I would love to be able to honor. [name]Little[/name] [name]Laney[/name] saved my life, when she was just three years old, and honestly, [name]Laney[/name] and her little sister are my two favorite little people ever. I adore them. Today, I received the news that she has been diagnosed with leukemia. She’s not even seven. She’s gone through her first chemo treatment today, and if I wanted to honor her before, I definitely want to honor her so much more now.

[name]How[/name] would you honor a [name]Laney[/name]? [name]Elena[/name] seems like a natural choice, and I do like it a lot, but my cousin has an [name]Alaina[/name], so I’m not so sure about it. Any other ways to honor a [name]Laney[/name]?

Thanks so much.

I knew a [name]Delaney[/name].

It’s super sweet of you to want to honor this sweet girl!!! I’ll keep thinking of more choices

Because she has a disease and may not get the chance to name her own children one day, why not ask her what her favorite names are? Take those as suggestions, and then maybe make the middle name [name]Lane[/name] or [name]Elena[/name]. I think that would be perfect and such a treasure when your child asks, “[name]How[/name] did I get my name?” I also think [name]Laney[/name] would love it too. Besides, if she recovers (which we all pray she makes it through safely!) as she grows, her name tastes will change, and most likely you wouldn’t have to run into a name conflict later on.

[name]Melania[/name]

Why not just use [name]Lane[/name]/[name]Layne[/name]? My little sister is a [name]Layne[/name] and it works well for her. It would make a nice, sleek, non-frilly middle name (as I look at your siggy of girl names).

[name]Layla[/name] (a bit of a stretch)
[name]Elaine[/name]
[name]Delainey[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Laina[/name]/[name]Layna[/name]

I think [name]Lane[/name] would make a spectacular and meaningful middle name. That’s great that you want to honor her!

Poor sweet little girl – I wish her the best of luck with her treatments and hope for a long and happy life! [name]Laney[/name] is a pretty adorable name/nickname. [name]Elena[/name] would be my favorite formal name, but I also like [name]Marlena[/name] (mar-[name]LAY[/name]-na), [name]Elaine[/name] (not at all dated in my mind and love the Arthurian connection), and [name]Helena[/name] (even though I prefer the pronunciation HELL-eh-nuh).

[name]Milena[/name]

[name]Elena[/name] would be my top choice, but I can see why you’d be reluctant to use it.

[name]How[/name] about plain [name]Lane[/name]? Other ideas…

[name]Lena[/name]
[name]Elaine[/name]
[name]Milena[/name]
Roselaine
Olaina
[name]Alana[/name]

[name]How[/name] about [name]Lane[/name]?? I prefer [name]Laine[/name] (for family reasons) but it is pronounced the same. GL

Thanks, ladies! I do like [name]Lena[/name], [name]Helena[/name], and [name]Milena[/name] (especially [name]Lena[/name]!). My only concern is that I say [name]Helena[/name] as [name]Helen[/name]-ah and [name]Lena[/name] as [name]LEE[/name]-nah, so I’m not sure how much those really honor her? [name]Lane[/name] could be an option as a MN, but something like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Lane[/name] sounds more like a street than a name to me. I think I might actually like [name]Lane[/name] more for a boy, too.

Her name is actually [name]Delaney[/name], which I find incredibly sweet, but I just don’t see it fitting in well with the rest of my list. Something like [name]Rachel[/name] [name]Delaney[/name] just doesn’t seem to be “me”, really. Which is why I was looking for other options. Maybe I could use [name]Elena[/name] as a MN (in a way, it also honors my sister, as it’s a variant of her mn), but I’m afraid that’d rule out [name]Elena[/name] in the long run.

[name]Magdalena[/name] maybe? It’s the only one I can think of that hasn’t been named.

I see [name]Eleni[/name] in your signature, and I think that would work perfectly!
I like the suggestion of asking [name]Laney[/name] her favorite names, too.
