Honoring Mom + MIL

I’d like to honor my mother in law and mother with my baby girls name. Which do you prefer and why? What do you picture when you think of these names? Do you think they are wearable or should I just go with their meaning lily?
Thanks berries!

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is perfect!!

I’d go with Susannah!! I think you could use [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] but other people might call her [name_f]Susie[/name_f] occasionally and she might decide she likes it

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]. Explanation why:

Summary

I would pronounce [name_f]Susana[/name_f] and [name_f]Suzana[/name_f] sue-zah-nuh, and I’ve never seen the [name_f]Suzana[/name_f] spelling and think it would be unnecessarily confusing. [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f] seems more dated and looks odd to me. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is nice, but I prefer [name_f]Susanna[/name_f].

I adore this name! [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] makes me think: early American, plucky, and very sweet and happy. And yes, [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] definitely works. Sue/Susie is so popular for middle-aged women, I don’t know that I see people automatically calling a baby that.
Much more interesting than [name_f]Lily[/name_f], IMO! P.s. [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] also means [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

First of all, I think any variation of this name is very wearable–and lovely! Warm, friendly, down-to-earth, full of charm :yellow_heart: I prefer it over [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

Spellings: The only one I don’t particularly care for is [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f]. The rest I like! I’m really not much help here, but I guess I’d personally probably go with [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] just for ease (unless a different spelling was particularly meaningful to me!).

Nicknames: Sana/Zana/Sanna/Zanna would be sweet and all seem doable. I do think there’s always a possibility that your daughter could decide to go by Sue/Susie, so I guess that’s something to consider. Having a different nickname does seem like a good way to reduce those odds, though! I love [name_f]Sosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] as other nickname options.

Middle names: I’m not sure what style of middle names you like, but I’m finding that I love [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] etc. paired with other names that share that long “u” sound…Susannah [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], etc. Good luck!!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I think that [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] looks best. I like the nns [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Sally[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f] & [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. That all being said, I wouldn’t use [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] if you really hate Sue/Susie. It’s such a natural nn, that she may end up getting called that at some point. [name_u]Or[/name_u] she might choose to get called that. I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Is your MIL [name_f]Susan[/name_f] or [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]? If that latter, you could honor her by using the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is my personal favourite spelling :two_hearts: I think [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] would work as a nickname.

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourite spelling is [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Sana[/name_f] etc. works as a nickname, though she may get [name_f]Sue[/name_f] or [name_f]Susie[/name_f] and in fact may like being called Sue/Susie. But if you push the alternate nickname from the start, people should call her by that if you have asked them to until she is old enough to make her own decisions.

I prefer [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] but if you really truly hate Sue/Susie (and not just in a “I prefer a different name but could deal with if that’s what she ended up being called” kind of way) then I’d find a new name.

I love this name by any spelling! I’ve known Susannahs who are only ever called [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] so I think it’s quite possible to avoid Sue/Susie. With anything like this though, you (and then she) just need to be prepared that some people will occasionally do this without thinking. You simply correct them - ‘No, it’s [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] or Zanna’.

I love the nickname [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] (or Sanna). I prefer the Z sound though. If you plan to use this I think it makes sense to spell it [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Suzannah[/name_f]. I really like these spellings.

But it’s also fine to spell it [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] and use [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] nickname.

[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] is my favorite spelling but I truly love them all!! It’s an incredible choice :yellow_heart: Warm and friendly, pretty versatile, with history behind it but still extremely wearable! [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] hits the sweet spot of being a very familiar name to most people while also being actually very uncommon.

The two I’ve known have gone by full names only, so I think that or Zanna/Sanna is certainly doable (especially if you establish it early on)!

I love them !! [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] are my favourite spellings. The only [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] I know is only ever called [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], not [name_f]Susie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sue[/name_f] so it’s definitely doable !!

I love [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f]! It always reminds of [name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_u]Pevensie[/name_u] from [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]. I do slightly prefer [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f], but that’s just a minor detail.

[name_f]Lili[/name_f] [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] also makes a lovely combo…

I prefer the [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] spelling. I think that [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] is a wearable nickname. I’ve also seen [name_f]Zaza[/name_f] used as a nickname, but I’m not sure if that is your style.

Any spelling, but as a middle name seams like the solution I would take. That way there is no middle name issue. There is also the option of going with something like [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], which is just beautiful.

I like the [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] spelling, I’ve always felt the h makes it look more complete. I don’t think that [name_f]Sue[/name_f] or [name_f]Susie[/name_f] is inevitable as a nickname, but it may take a bit of enforcement to get people to use your preferred nickname. [name_f]Sukie[/name_f] is another cute nickname that could work, but [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] would definitely work as well
