Honoring my dad-and a weird weird name that I can’t stop thinking about

Would love some advice! [name_f]My[/name_f] dad’s name is [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] ([name_m]Vincenzo[/name_m], actually) and I’d like to honor him by naming our next daughter after him. The problem is, there is no feminine form of [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], and although I love the name [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] I can’t use it as it’s the name of my young cousin who passed away, and I know her sisters would like to use her name someday. Our last name sounds like [name_u]Rey[/name_u].

I was thinking of just using [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] as a middle name, and choosing a very pretty first name to make up for it. The only problem now is that we have used a formula with our other two daughters’ names: one of the names is to honor a relative, and the other is a name with [name_u]Christian[/name_u] significance. For example, one daughter is named [name_f]Trinity[/name_f], and the other has a name which means truth.

Lastly, I am in LOVE with a weird, way way out there name… Independence. We would call her [name_u]Indie[/name_u]. Independence [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] is kind of long, clunky, and not at all feminine. I’m not loving it. I kind of don’t think a name like Independence should have a middle name. Which makes this so different from my other daughters, and doesn’t leave a lot of room to honor my dad (does honor my husband’s great grandma though—her name was [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]!)

Suggestions on feminine forms of [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], names that mean winner/victorious that aren’t [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], pretty+meaningful girly names that could pair with [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], and middle names for Independence would be much appreciated!

So according to behindthename, there are four feminine forms of [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. [name_f]Vincenza[/name_f], Vinka, Vissenta and Vicenta. If none of those are your style, does your dad have a middle name that would be easier to feminize? I also think that Independence is a lot of name to have up front so maybe put it in the middle and just call her [name_u]Indie[/name_u] anyway? [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] also means “victory” so you could use that it one of it’s variants of you’re not wanting to go with [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].

Welcome. Congratulations.

I would avoid middle names that begin with an S.
It might get a bit muddled into the end of Independence. Instead, how about [name_f]Vinita[/name_f], [name_f]Vinica[/name_f], [name_f]Vinette[/name_f], [name_f]Vinetta[/name_f], [name_f]Vinetia[/name_f], [name_f]Vinceta[/name_f], [name_f]Vincentia[/name_f], [name_f]Vina[/name_f], [name_f]Vincenza[/name_f], [name_f]Elvinna[/name_f], [name_f]Elvinia[/name_f], [name_f]Elvina[/name_f], [name_f]Alvina[/name_f], [name_f]Alvinia[/name_f] or [name_f]Alvinna[/name_f]?

Reading @Pansy’s response, I like the suggestion of [name_f]Nicole[/name_f]. If you want to go with the Italian pronunciation, maybe use [name_u]Nicola[/name_u]?

He doesn’t have a middle name :frowning: I’ll look into [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] though! I’ve always liked [name_f]Colette[/name_f]

I do think Independence might be better for a middle name, good idea

After reading the exchanges I’m throwing a hand up in favor of [name_f]Colette[/name_f] Independence. I think it brings everything you are looking for to the table in the most wearable way for the child. You only stated one outright, but [name_f]Colette[/name_f] and [name_f]Trinity[/name_f] work nice as sisters so I feel confident saying it would fit well in your set.

Wow! That’s a lot to think about!

I know you’re not asking for this, but [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] has a nice ring to it, and you could call her [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] does channel Independence.

After reading the posts that followed mine, I’m really liking Colette Independence. The nn Indie would still work well.

Personally, independence feels like a lot, very all American in a not so great way. Maybe it would work as a middle name? But, if you really like [name_u]Indie[/name_u] for a first name, just name her [name_u]Indie[/name_u]. I’m a fan of using the nickname as a name. I feel like it just gets over complicated.

I really think you should honour your dad. If you found a feminine first name, you could just name her middle name [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. Lots of boy names are becoming popular and middle names don’t come up that often.

Maybe [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] nn “[name_u]Vinnie[/name_u]”? I think Independence would make an awesome middle name too.

I really like Independence as a middle name!
I found the name “[name_f]Nyla[/name_f]” which means “winner”- [name_f]Nyla[/name_f] Independence sounds really spunky and sweet to me.
[name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]- means “people’s victory”
[name_f]Sigrid[/name_f]- means “fair victory”
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]- means “She who brings victory”
[name_f]Vinya[/name_f]- means “vineyard” but is similar to [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]

This would be very cute!

[name_u]Indie[/name_u] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] ?

You could call her Independence as a fun pet name. [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is a great twist on [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].

If you’re up for something unique, I’m liking [name_m]Vine[/name_m] for you. It has [name_u]Christian[/name_u] significance and honors [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], and has lovely nature imagery. Or maybe something like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_m]Vine[/name_m] (flowering vine) or [name_m]Vine[/name_m] Independence.

Best wishes!

why not Vincenta or Vincella. Vincella nn [name_f]Cella[/name_f]. I like [name_u]Freedom[/name_u] for the middle. [name_u]Freedom[/name_u] to celebrate the freedom we have when COVID 19 is over. Vincella [name_u]Justice[/name_u]

Vincenti Independence works a bit better though.

I think [name_f]Venice[/name_f] worth’s as a beautiful name to honor your dad. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestions in these posts, I hope something rings true for you soon!

I love the suggestion of [name_f]Colette[/name_f] Independence

I also think using [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] would be great. [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] [name_u]Vida[/name_u] would be gorgeous

Also what about [name_f]Inara[/name_f], In instead of [name_m]Vin[/name_m] you could still call her [name_u]Indie[/name_u] and it means “heaven sent”

[name_f]Inara[/name_f] [name_f]Liberty[/name_f]

Mean conqueror like [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]

[name_u]Tora[/name_u] Independence
[name_f]Sigourney[/name_f]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] here to say that I think Independence sounds amazing!!

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] is such a gorgeous suggestion. [name_m]Can[/name_m]’t lie, not keen at all on Independence, I feel like that is a big name to live up to. [name_u]Indie[/name_u] on the other hand is the sweetest.

[name_u]Indie[/name_u] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] / [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_u]Indie[/name_u] / [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] are beautiful. I think [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] Independence could be nice too.
