My great grandmother, whom I was very close to passed away at the age of 93, when I was 17. Her name was [name]Ola[/name] [name]Cora[/name]… I can’t use [name]Cora[/name] because a cousin just named her baby that. I’m looking for anyway to honor her name… I’m stumped… Thanks in advance!!
What does [name]Ola[/name] [name]Cora[/name] mean? Perhaps you can exchange the name for something else that means the same thing.
Well, [name]Cora[/name] means maiden.
More ‘maiden’ names:
[name]Ella[/name]
[name]Corrina[/name]
[name]Immy[/name] ([name]Imogen[/name] nn [name]Immy[/name]?)
[name]Riva[/name]
[name]Ethel[/name]
[name]Arwen[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Maida[/name]/[name]Mayda[/name]
[name]Ola[/name] has a different meaning, which I can’t really fine any names for.
Names that sound similar??
[name]Ola[/name]:
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
Maybe use [name]Ola[/name] or a name like [name]Cora[/name] ([name]Norah[/name], etc) as a middle name??
~[name]Jasmine[/name]
My great grandmother was the 9th out of 10 children, she told me that her mother let her neighbor/friend name her. First name [name]Ola[/name] and middle name [name]Cora[/name] is what she got, lol! I know that [name]Ola[/name] means ancestor and [name]Cora[/name] means maiden…
Perhaps there is a particular attribute about her that you like and you can use that as a starting point
Maybe you could use [name]Olivia[/name], nickname [name]Ola[/name], and [name]Cora[/name] in the middle? Or [name]Lola[/name] nickname [name]Ola[/name]?
Maybe another name that has [name]Ola[/name] in it?
Some examples are:
[name]Viola[/name]
[name]Iolanthe[/name]
[name]Eolande[/name]
Nerola
[name]Nola[/name]
[name]Nolana[/name]
[name]Agnola[/name]
[name]Aureola[/name]
[name]Cleola[/name]
[name]Elenola[/name]
[name]Fabiola[/name]
Other ways could be by her birth month ([name]May[/name], [name]June[/name] etc), favourite flower, birthstone, favourite gem stone, favourite movie, favourite actress, character in a favourite book, favourite singer etc
Heh, I would probably use Cora anyway since you loved it before your cousin named her daughter that or you could always use Cora as a middle name rather than a first name so it would seem like less name stealing and you could still honoring your grandmother. Ola does sound pretty dated, but you could also just use that as a middle name.
Eleanor Ola perhaps?
Ramola is another option. I don’t see it in nameberry, but there is an actress Ramola Garai.
I’d just use [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Ola[/name] as a middle. Especially since [name]Cora[/name] is a family name I think you can use it although your cousin already did.
I’m not crazy about names with the same meaning, the stretch is just too big for me, no one will see the connection.
That happened a lot back then i met a woman named [name]Olive[/name] [name]Fern[/name] and her neighbor named her!!
[name]Korri[/name]
[name]Cordelia/name
Cortlyn
[name]Olina[/name]
[name]Odelia[/name](I will praise the [name]Lord[/name])
[name]Olea[/name]
Maybe you could use a name that sounds like [name]Ola[/name] & [name]Cora[/name]? ([name]Nora[/name], [name]Pandora[/name]) You could also use another name that means maiden such as [name]Imogen[/name]. Maybe you could use her birth month, birth stone, birth flower?
[name]How[/name] about [name]Opal[/name]? She reminds me so much of [name]Cora[/name], plus she shares the “O” initial with [name]Ola[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you see a lot of the cousin who just named her daughter [name]Cora[/name]? If not, I say stick with it. [name]Cora[/name] is such a great name, and you liked it first I think [name]Cora[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] would be beautiful! and a great tribute to your great grandmother!
I agree with this. Since [name]Cora[/name] is a family name then I think it’s perfectly acceptable for multiple family members to use the name. If you don’t want your daughter having the same first name as your cousin’s kid, you could always put [name]Cora[/name] in the middle.
I would use [name]Ola[/name] or [name]Cora[/name], whichever you prefer. Since both are family names you have just as much right to them as your cousin. I have two cousins named [name]Jackson[/name] after our great-grandfather’s middle name, and it is no big deal in our family. If there are multiple people named after one person in a family, I think it just shows how awesome that one person was.
Is [name]Ola[/name]'s maiden name an option? Perhaps you could use it as a first or middle name.
[name]Ofelia[/name], with the nn [name]Ola[/name], would be adorable! [name]Nola[/name] would be nice, too.
I love [name]Ola[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]. Why not [name]Ora[/name]? (too close to cousin [name]Cora[/name]?)
If you don’t like just [name]Ola[/name], I also love [name]Zola[/name]
I really like [name]Viola[/name] or [name]Olea[/name], do you think either are enough to honor her name? I am also kind of fond of the name [name]Coraline[/name], but would only use it in the middle name spot because of my cousin.
