I would like ideas for honouring a [name_f]Beth[/name_f], but without going the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] route. Surely, there must be other ways. I don’t love [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as it seems tragic to me, thanks to [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women and the fact that the person we want to honour, my mother in law, died in an accident when dh was very young.
We liked [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] last time around, but that’s not doing it for me anymore. [name_f]Bette[/name_f] I like in theory, but it makes me think of the french word of the same sound which means stupid. I wonder if there are any contracted names that are pretty. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]-beth or something? It would be two-for in a way.
There is [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], which I love as a name but is a little dated. I think a hyphenated name would work also, would you like [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f]? I love this name and while it isn’t in the top 1000 it is going up in popularity.
2011[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f],F,93
2012[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f],F,109
2013[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f],F,138
2014[name_f]Annabeth[/name_f],F,207
Or how about [name_f]Belle[/name_f] or [name_f]Bella[/name_f]? [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/a is a variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] a lot. There’s also [name_f]Bethan[/name_f], [name_f]Bethel[/name_f], [name_f]Bethia[/name_f], [name_f]Jobeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f].
[name_f]Bettina[/name_f] is the first name that came to mind. [name_f]Bethia[/name_f] is another variant.
[name_f]Beth[/name_f] could be derived from beit, Hebrew for house, so you could look at the meaning for that. [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] is a Greek goddess of the hearth. [name_f]Hester[/name_f] could come from that too. [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is home-ruler-- you could also use [name_f]Etta[/name_f] from that. [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is Latin for blessed home. [name_u]Maison[/name_u] is [name_m]French[/name_m] for house and [name_f]Patria[/name_f] is Spanish for home-land.
Another suggestion is to use [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]-- it has the letters from [name_f]Beth[/name_f] in it. You could also go with a creative spelling of [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]-- [name_f]Tabetha[/name_f] if you want the same letters.
I personally like [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f]. There is also all the international variations of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Liesl[/name_f], [name_f]Sabela[/name_f], ect…
If it were me, I’d go for [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]!
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] would be my follow-up option.
I knew just a straight [name_f]Betty[/name_f] growing up. It was adorably retro on her, and managed never to feel old lady on her.
[name_f]Babette[/name_f] is one last option that hasn’t been mentioned.
I’ve always been a fan of [name_f]Elsbeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Bettina[/name_f]! Maybe also consider [name_f]Elisheba[/name_f], [name_f]Lisabet[/name_f], [name_f]Lisanne[/name_f], [name_f]Elyse[/name_f], or [name_f]Bethea[/name_f]
