I would love to honour my father by naming a son after him. Problem is, I really don’t like my dads name. My dads name is Hurtle [name_u]Francis[/name_u], its an old Australian family name which has been passed through the generations of our family.
I have tried to find out more information on the origins and meaning of the name in the hope I may stumble upon a variation which I prefer however there is very little information out there.
[name_u]Francis[/name_u], has the cute nickname [name_m]Frank[/name_m]/ [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] which I do like however we have close friends who have used this name plus a number of family members are called [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. I feel by using this name the nod to my father will be somewhat diluted.
Does anyone know anything about the name Hurtle and its meaning? Any suggestions for variations? Or suggestions on how I can honour my beautiful dad without using his exact name?
Many thanks for your help!!
I would just use [name_u]Francis[/name_u]. I’m sure your friends would understand you using [name_u]Francis[/name_u] seeing as it’s your father’s middle name.
I’m also tempted to suggest putting Hurtle in the middle spot. Paired with a well-known name it would make for a very interesting combo.
What about just using [name_u]Francis[/name_u] in the middle spot? Or do you have to honor your father with the first name?
I love the idea of honouring your father,
I would use Hurtle with a more modern / popular name too spice it up a little… And from there look for a cute nickname?

Hurtle [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_u]Noah[/name_u]
Hurtle [name_u]Francis[/name_u] [name_u]Max[/name_u]
If you wanna honor a family member with a old fashioned name? combine it with a simple strong modern and more popular name. If you wanna do it the traditional way, you could use [name_m]Huey[/name_m] like a nick name for Hurtle?
