Honouring Shawn

Lately my brother [name]Shawn[/name] has become a much bigger, more important, and a very supportive element in my life in so many ways. So in true berry fashion, I have been considering his name in the middle position to honour him and express how much I appreciate having him in my life.
So two things–

  1. I have two brothers, [name]Shawn[/name] is obviously just one of them, my other brother…well he isn’t someone I want my son to aspire to be like. Would it be a bad idea to just honour one brother and not the other???

  2. Should I just use [name]Shawn[/name]? I was thinking of many throwing it into my current favorite combo, maybe [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Shawn[/name] Z, or [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Shawn[/name] [name]Xavier[/name] Z. (Since I’m trying to find a second middle or something for my favorite girls combo anyway, this could be a good option!) Or is there a good variant? Another name the means the same as [name]Shawn[/name]? ([name]Shawn[/name] being an anglicized form of [name]Sean[/name], [name]Sean[/name] being the irish form of [name]John[/name], etc etc, I am not keen on this whole idea) or maybe I could choose something [name]Shawn[/name] is involved in/fond of and use that? ([name]Shawn[/name] is a career Firefighter, so maybe something related to that may work) Shawns middle name is also my dads name, so I don’t want to use that, as I want it to be known that [name]Shawn[/name] is definitely the one I am honouring, not my dad. Maybe I could just make a new combo with [name]Shawn[/name] in the middle? First name ideas anyone?

Thoughts?

Honoring one brother & not the other is ok as long as you don’t point out that the other brother isn’t one you’d want your son to aspire to be when at family functions!

I like the idea of using a favorite thing of your brother’s or something symbolic but most people won’t immediately but it together but it could be special for the two of you.

[name]Shawn[/name] is one of the few boy names I like on a girl. In the middle spot it could be great.
[name]Cordelia[/name] [name]Shawn[/name] is a cute pairing.
On a boy I prefer [name]Sean[/name]. [name]Evander[/name] [name]Shawn[/name] is nice.

I, too, much prefer [name]Sean[/name]. I much prefer the authentic spellling, although I know some really lovely Shawns. I once knew a wonderful girl named [name]Sian[/name] and pronounced the exact same way. She was Welsh and it is a well known name there. Food for thought. I am really only consdering family names (used three for my daughter) and really like putting a spin on an obvious gesture meant to honour. I like using the opposite gender.

The only problem with the [name]Sean[/name] spelling is that my old boss who I worked for for over 3 years, and I’m still quite close to his family, is named [name]Sean[/name] and I don’t want anyone to be confused in regards to who the name is honouring. We used to have a babysitter when I was much much younger named [name]Shauna[/name], but that’s a bit 80’s ish now I think???

I think it’s perfectly fine to honor someone whom you actually want to honor, and not someone else. That’s the point, isn’t it?

It depends how much you want the world to know you’re honoring [name]Shawn[/name], versus [name]Shawn[/name] to know you’re honoring him. If it’s the former, then use “[name]Shawn[/name]” as a second middle and that’s the end of it. If it’s the latter-- I really like the idea of something more subtle, just a special secret connection [name]Shawn[/name] would have to his nephew.

The patron saint of firefighters is the fantastically named [name]Florian[/name]. Which doesn’t work for [name]Lachlan[/name], but certainly does with [name]Evander[/name].

Oh [name]Blade[/name] I could kiss you! /ahem

I think I mostly want [name]Shawn[/name] to know it’s for him, that’s the most important part. I also love the suggestion of [name]Florian[/name], I didn’t even consider the patron saint! However, due the feminine sound of the name, I can’t see my Fiance going for it. He likes manly sounding names, with manly meanings haha ([name]Alexander[/name] is his favorite name for example!)
