Hoping to compromise with my Husband!

My husband wants to name our baby [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is she is a girl after his deceased Mother. I don’t love the name and most definitely can’t stand [name_f]Lily[/name_f]! I would like it as the middle name but he is admit about it. So I’m handing him a list and he can choose from the following names because I’m done fighting!

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (obviously [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f] for her own identity and a name that I love and [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] a family name on my side! I’d call her [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]-[name_f]Hope[/name_f] or just [name_f]Hope[/name_f])

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] ([name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is ao similar to [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] but she has her own identity. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] was his [name_f]Nana[/name_f] and again [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. PS he originally wanted [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] I vetoed that! [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is ao similar, I hope he bites!)

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (olivia meaning olive branch a symbol of peace. Since we are both different religions and she will be raised in both we love the symbolism! Again [name_f]Rose[/name_f], again [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. Nickname [name_f]Liv[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Lil[/name_f] and Livi similar to [name_f]Lily[/name_f].)

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (if [name_f]Liv[/name_f]/Livi isn’t enough for him then I’m throwing in [name_f]Lily[/name_f], a form of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f].)

[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (I know 99% of people online hate [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]. We love it. This is the name I was told to give her in a dream two days before our BFP! [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] is also where her deceased Grampy grew up. It also has [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] in it which I adore! [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] reminds me of water beautiful bodies of water and it’s calming! Again [name_f]Lily[/name_f], again [name_f]Dawn[/name_f].)

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (Again [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], see [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] for [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and again [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. I’d call her [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] or [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]-[name_u]Brooke[/name_u].)

Yes, some of these aren’t beautiful in flow but again this is about compromise. At this point the name could be [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] and I wouldn’t care about flow! But obviously that’s not an option! This post isn’t about me being forced, or flow or anything else. I’m not looking for other forms of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] as they are family names and we can’t change them. This includes [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] which means [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]. Can’t use it.

Basically, which three names are best from my list?

Thank you!!! :two_hearts:

I think [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] are my favorite

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f].

Would he be down with [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]? It sounds similar but has the nickname options [name_f]Ana[/name_f]/[name_f]Anna[/name_f] attached to it.

[name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] would be gorgeous.

The other two options are [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] which means [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] which is a french form of [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. Both come with different nicknames besides [name_f]Lily[/name_f] ([name_f]Susie[/name_f] , [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_u]Lou[/name_u] for [name_f]Lilou[/name_f]) and would sound great with your middle name choices. I particularly like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]

What about [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]? [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] or [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f].

So he won’t go for [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] as a middle name at all?

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]?

I love at a lot of your combos but my three favourites are:
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (since you don’t like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] what about [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ana[/name_f]).
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is an unexpected but perfect match :)).
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] (I lovvveee [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]! [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is great middle name set as well :)).

I like [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] the best.

My favourite 3 are:

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]

From those options I like the first three best.

You seem adamant about the [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] part and he about the [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] part, so those two seem like the best bet to me

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] as a [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] nn?

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]-[name_f]Dawn[/name_f] or [name_f]Lily[/name_f]-[name_f]Dawn[/name_f] would be lovely

[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] for sure because it seems to have such a deep meaning for you. I think you’ll be able to convince the hubby to use it if he sees how much you love it.

I also love [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], can’t go wrong with either.

I hope you guys can settle on a compromise! It’s so sad settling for a name you dislike. Sending you all the good vibes!

[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]!

So you have to use [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and you have to use [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] to honor family and you want a third name to give her that’s all her own. Using both honor names in the middle seems like a great compromise!

From the ones you’ve chosen to be the baby’s own unique name:

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]-love the meaning it has to you. Very popular but liv and [name_f]Livy[/name_f] are absolutely adorable.
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]/[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]-I love [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and like [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u].
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]-so pretty
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]-love it as a first name but I find it very expected and overdone as a middle name
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]-love this but it does sound similar to [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and dawn

It sounds like you really don’t like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. Personally I could not imagine naming my child something I didn’t like at all. If he is willing to compromise then [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is a fantastic middle name option!

My favorites would be

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] -this is my favorite I think!

Good luck figuring out a compromise! If you do end up using [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] I love the other nickname suggestion of [name_f]Lila[/name_f]!

Eta* from your list [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is my favorite but only because I absolutely [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as well as [name_f]Hope[/name_f]

It’s pretty inflexible of your husband to say that you have to use [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] as a first name, no discussion about it. It’s one thing to say he wants to honour his mother, but to insist on doing it in this one specific way you don’t like? Personally, I’d only consider this if I get carte blanche on the next child’s first name (if you plan to have another).

What about using [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] as her first name and you can call her by a nickname like [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], or [name_f]Lani[/name_f] (lah-nee), if you like any of those?

If your husband would be open to it, what about using his mother’s middle name, or last name if it’s a usable name, and you can use a nickname if you prefer? e.g. [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] with the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] is fun and spunky, and it makes more sense for the first name to be what she goes by.

I like the sound of [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], but it sounds super descriptive (since [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] are both nouns and [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] is a place).

What about [name_f]Lila[/name_f]? It’s definitly a play on [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]

I personally wouldn’t give my child a first name that I didn’t love, for any reason. It’s going to be confusing if you call her by her middle name and nobody else does, and one day you will have to explain to her that it’s because you don’t like her name (which will probably hurt her feelings). I think it’s pretty selfish and unfair of your husband to insist on using it as a first, maybe you should just point out how he would feel if he had to call his child a name he wasn’t fond of? Both parents should love the name their child is given, neither should be forced to settle. I would tell him using it as a first name is just not an option. Sorry you are in this situation!

I know someone else that a similar situation happened to and they have always regretted not putting their foot down, as they will always have to call their child a name they don’t really like.
