Hosanna?

Not my regular style for actual use since my regular style is so different- but just for the sake of discussion I wanted to mention this one. I’ve always loved this name and never never see it talked about on here. I know it’s a little bit on the line of ‘crazy over the top jewish/christian’ - but I feel like with [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Judah[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], etc. being so mainstream these days- Hosanna fits right in. Plus it has such a beautiful meaning for [name]Christian[/name] folks [name]IMO[/name]- an exclamation of praise for God. I also love the song Hosanna in association with the name. Main drawback is the nick name “Ho”- although I don’t think that’s a deal breaker personally.

[name]Just[/name] fun naming food for thought!!

I like it. It sounds like its related to [name]Susan[/name] or [name]Susannah[/name]. I dont know what very religious people would say about it though. The Ho nickname isn’t very appealing however. [name]Hosie[/name] or [name]Zanna[/name]/[name]Sanna[/name] is very cute though

I think the ‘Ho’ nickname possibility is too much of a risk!

I really like it! It is on the same lines as [name]Jubilee[/name] to me.

I have considered this before, and I really think it could work. It totally has the same feel as [name]Susannah[/name] and [name]Johanna[/name] for me. Plus, being a [name]Christian[/name], I really like the meaning! I know that “Ho” is terrible, but [name]Zanna[/name]/Zanni could be a cute nickname!

I don’t think Hosanna works as a name. It would be like naming someone Hallelujah. I realize that many relatively obscure Bible names are going mainstream, like [name]Ezra[/name] or [name]Judah[/name], but Hosanna isn’t a name. It’s a nice sound, but if it’s a sound you like, I would do [name]Hannah[/name] or [name]Susannah[/name]. As a [name]Christian[/name], I also love the meaning, but I feel it’s not something I feel would work on a person.

I know a baby Hosannah here in the uk. Her parents are [name]Christan[/name]. I think it’s sweet and would put it in the same category as [name]Seraphina[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] although its probably seen as more overtly religious than those.

I had never though about Hosanna as a name until I saw it come up in a thread awhile back and I have to say…

I adore it.

I could never use it, DH is just far too tame in his taste, but I’d fight for it as a middle name if we ever have a daughter around Christmastime! It’s one of those names that just makes me smile uncontrollably, I think of the [name]Christmas[/name] carol, one of my favorites when I was a child and just happy wintery scenes. Maybe because of the -anna, similarity to Shoshanna/[name]Suzanna[/name]/etc…it doesnt strike me as any more overtly religious than names like [name]Noel[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Christian[/name], etc.

I don’t like it sorry. When I seen it, all I could think of was hosiery. And a pimp saying “I’m gonna go grab some hosanna case of beer”
