Hottest rising names 2010- Don't even know some of them

Got this off a site called Name [name]Candy[/name], which got this list from Babyname [name]Genie[/name]- which bases this list on SSA
Not only do I not know some of these but if I had to choose [name]ONE[/name] girl and [name]ONE[/name] boy name I would be pushing it: [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Bentley[/name] [name]Eliah[/name] (only [name]JUST[/name]) is about it.

  1. [name]Tenley[/name] NEVER heard of this as a name, let alone as fastest rising girl’s name- seems to match [name]Kinley[/name], [name]Tinsley[/name], [name]Kinsley[/name]
  2. [name]Harper[/name]
  3. Everleigh
  4. [name]Martina[/name]
  5. [name]Sookie[/name]
  6. [name]Navi[/name] (WTDY??? what is this? it doesn’t sound like a name to me)
  7. [name]Charlotte[/name]
  8. [name]Eloise[/name]
  9. [name]Lorelai[/name]
  10. [name]Ursula[/name]
  11. [name]Briella[/name]
  12. [name]Kinley[/name] Never heard this one
  13. [name]Tinsley[/name] Never heard this one
  14. Mhairi This seems rather obscure to be rising IMHO
  15. [name]Leighton[/name]
  16. [name]Maelle[/name]
  17. [name]Ever[/name]
  18. [name]Kinsley[/name] Never heard this one
  19. [name]Lux[/name]
  20. [name]Everly[/name]

  1. Castiel
  2. [name]Bentley[/name]
  3. [name]Eoin[/name]
  4. [name]Easton[/name]
  5. [name]Lucian[/name]
  6. [name]Aarav[/name] Never heard this one
  7. [name]Zion[/name]
  8. St. [name]John[/name] Surname idea gone too far? [name]Saint[/name] [name]John[/name]? Sinjen? WHAT???
  9. [name]Kaiden[/name]
  10. [name]Sterling[/name]
  11. [name]Callan[/name]
  12. [name]Leland[/name]
  13. [name]Harper[/name]
  14. [name]Mikah[/name]
  15. [name]Dashiell[/name]
  16. [name]Eliah[/name]
  17. [name]Dawson[/name]
  18. [name]Kayden[/name]
  19. [name]Lennon[/name]
  20. [name]Dorian[/name]

I had a manager in 2010 who named his daughter [name]Tenley[/name], never heard of it before or after, though. For girls, I would agree with you on [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name]. For boys, I do like [name]Dorian[/name] (only because of [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Gray[/name]) and I’m warming up to [name]Sterling[/name]. 98% of the rest are just awful, though. Is there a correlation between baby names and pain medication after birth?

I love [name]Callan[/name] (my son’s middle name  But most of the other’s I’ve never heard of. [name]Leland[/name] is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I would never use it, but I like saying it

I like [name]Ever[/name] and [name]Everly[/name]… But nothing off the boys list.

Harper – I would have been surprised if Harper weren’t on this list. It’s definitely been shooting up the charts, most likely given a push by the trend in celebrity babies with the name.
Martina – I’m not a tennis fan in the slightest, but I know that this is the name of a pretty good player. Perhaps it’s rising popularity stems from that.
Navi – I have always liked this, but I imagine it’s popularity nowadays stems from ‘Avatar’ (The Na’vi people).
Ever – Word names aren’t too uncommon these days.
Lux – Short, a little harsh, mysterious and different…fits the modern trends.

Castiel – This one doesn’t surprise me at all, seeing as though ‘Supernatural’ (Castiel is one of the character’s names) has a massive fan-base.
Eoin – Irish names in the USA, UK and Australia are becoming more and more common these days.
Mikah – This makes more sense to me, even though Micah would technically be the more legitimate form. Not surprising.

The only one I was surprised to see on the rise was Ursula - I would never have guessed it’s popularity was growing.

Oh, and if I had to name a son and daughter using only names from this list, I’d have a Dawson Eliah & Navi Charlotte.

Thanks for being brave enough to call it… 98% of the rest are just awful!!! I agree. They sound like last names as first names, or made up invented names/crossed with last names.
LOL, yes, it must be the birthing drugs…

[name]Callan[/name] I know, it is Irish/gaelic. It is cool.

I am glad I am not the only one to have not even heard of some of these names.

OK [name]Navi[/name]…now I get it with the Avatar link. NMS, but at least I get it.

Castiel- TV show name, OK, haven’t watched the show, but at least I know where it appeared from!

I wrote a story with a girl called [name]Tenley[/name] in it ten years ago…there is a character called [name]Tenley[/name] in the movie [name]Summer[/name] Catch. I also met a baby called [name]Ursula[/name] recently. I also know two little girls called [name]Kinsley[/name] (though one is spelled Kynslea). I know an older [name]Mikah[/name], but that’s about it.

[name]Sookie[/name] - I don’t like it, but it doesn’t surprise me. It’s [name]Anna[/name] Paquin’s character on [name]True[/name] Blood, and that’s a pretty popular show.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Good name. I love it.
[name]Eloise[/name] - I think this name is quite pretty.

Castiel - Doesn’t surprise me, given the popularity of [name]Misha[/name] [name]Collins[/name]’ character on Supernatural. Plus, other [name]Cas[/name] names seem to be rising. Why not this one, too?
[name]Easton[/name] - I see nothing wrong with this one. [name]Weston[/name] is popular. It’s not surprising that [name]Easton[/name] is on the rise.
[name]Lucian[/name] - I like this.
[name]Zion[/name] - Seems right on with other spiritual names.
[name]Sterling[/name] - This is my great uncle’s name. I like it.
[name]Leland[/name] - This is on my list. It has a laid-back Southern charm.
[name]Dashiell[/name] - Another name I really love.
[name]Dawson[/name] - I associate it too much with [name]Dawson[/name] [name]Leary[/name] of [name]Dawson[/name]'s Creek. The character was annoying enough to sour me on the name.
[name]Dorian[/name] - I like this. I have a student with this name.

Fastest rising measured how? Since several I’ve never seen make it, I’ll guess it’s “largest % increase relative to what they had before”, so a name going from 1 use to 10 would rank higher than one going from 100 to 900. No… I guess it’s not as crazy as that list would look.

If I had to pick off this list I would have a liitle [name]Martina[/name] & [name]Leland[/name]

I did some measuring…2009 number is first, 2010 number second, increase is third

[name]Tenley[/name]: 58, 667, 609
[name]Harper[/name]: 1898, 2601, 703

[name]Sterling[/name]: 230, 296, 66
[name]Callan[/name]: 81, 151, 70

[name]Lennon[/name]: 211, 219, 8
[name]Dorian[/name]: 523, 512, 11

So, while some of them are indeed “fast risers”, some have barely risen, and some have even dropped in popularity. So take this list with a grain of salt.

2. [name]Harper[/name]
7. [name]Charlotte[/name]
17. [name]Ever[/name] - boy

13. [name]Harper[/name]
20. [name]Dorian[/name]

I like:

[name]Navi[/name] - I almost named my cat this… after the [name]Zelda[/name] fairy!
[name]Kinley[/name] - Would prefer [name]Kenley[/name] I think?

[name]Bentley[/name] - I think it could be popular after Teen Mom?
[name]Mikah[/name] - Much prefer this on boys, though I guess it’s popular for both?
[name]Dorian[/name] - I associate this with cats too, though!

I cant imagine English speakers prn Maëlle correctly, Im guessing theyre are a bunch of “may elles” out there

I agree with some but others seem a bit obscure for options. I have heard of [name]Tenley[/name]/[name]Kinley[/name]/[name]Kinsley[/name]/[name]Tinsley[/name]/etc., though–they seem to be everywhere where I am. :frowning:

[name]Love[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], and [name]Harper[/name] for girls and [name]Dashiell[/name], St. [name]John[/name] (although I agree it’s a bit tooooo surnamey, haha), [name]Lucian[/name], [name]Sterling[/name], [name]Harper[/name] (love this for both genders!), and (GP! :() [name]Bentley[/name]. If I had to make combos they would be [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Lucian[/name] [name]Harper[/name], probably.

I have seen all the following on 2010 Social Security top 100 names (the individual lists by state) - not in every state, but some.

These are particularly popular:
Harper (girl) - and Piper is another that is up and coming.
Charlotte #3 name in Washington DC.
Bentley - I believe there is a TV show about teen moms and this is what one of them named her baby
Kaiden, Kayden and also Caden, Cayden and Caden. add all the spellings together and it’s a very popular name in some states.
Mikah (but have only seen spelled Micah)

on a few of the lists:

I certainly have heard of these being used - especially Zion, Everleigh/Everly, Lorelai, Leighton and Ever. I have seen Lux talked about on this board.:
Zion (both boys and girls)
Martina -
Eloise - not surprising
Lorelai - (Lorelei) - from the TV show
Ursula - would be surprised if it became popular
Briella (I have seen Brielle on the top 100 lists)
Tinsley - similar to others like Kenley, Kinsley, Tenley, etc.
Mhairi This seems rather obscure to be rising IMHO
Maelle - I know this is a popular name in France at the moment. I agree that if Americans are using this, may be pronouncing it May-elle.
St. John Surname idea gone too far? Saint John? Sinjen? WHAT??? yes, Sinjen. Haven’t heard of it being used lately but who knows.
Harper (boy)

jinxgirl There you go, you were a decade ahead of your time with [name]Tenley[/name]!!! We have a tea in Australian called Tetley- so it isn’t one I’d pick.

frustratedauthor [name]Sookie[/name]- ah… another TV show name
[name]Dawson[/name] made me think of [name]Dawson[/name]'s Creek too.
