My husband got a call from his brother-in-law the other morning, saying that [name]Heidi[/name] (MY sister in law) had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl.
[name]Dan[/name] (my husband) asked what his new little niece’s name was going to be and they said they weren’t sure yet. Somewhere in there, [name]Dan[/name] mentions our baby name all nonchalant like its no big deal.
I got an email last night announcing our new niece and her name. Wouldn’t ya know if they didn’t name her [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Maeve[/name].
Needless to say, I’m extremely angry (putting in PG language) with my husband, sister-in-law, and her husband…
Please help me! I loved that name and now I have to pick a completely different one by [name]June[/name] 1st!!
Some names we like:
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Honor[/name]
[name]Joanna[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] or [name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Roxana[/name]
Granted there is absolutely NO consistency to our list (super feminine, unisex, vintage, trendy, kre8tiv, etc.) This is our first, eventually there will be consistency in names.
That is the most horrible backstabbing thing I have ever heard of! It would be bad enough had they stolen your name before you got pregnant but less than a month before you are due? These sound like truly repulsive people.
OMG!! That is hands down, no competition the worst baby name stealing story I have [name]EVER[/name] heard!!! My heart goes out to you. That is just disgusting behaviour. Hopefully us berries can help you come up wth another (BETTER!) name for your daughter.
From your list:
[name]Julia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Mae[/name] (I know [name]Mae[/name] isn’t on your list, but [name]Margaret[/name] is, and it’s kid of related, but I think that this combo is super nice)
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Claire[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Claire[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Joanna[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name] [name]Roxana[/name] [name]Honor[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name] [name]Claire[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
I’ve just noticed plenty of E names in there. Sorry! I am so totally indignant on your behalf about what has happened, I wouldn’t be on speaking terms with any of them ever again (hubby included)! You are a stronger woman than I am!!
[name]Hope[/name] that some of these help a bit! Goodluck!!
The title of your thread made me laugh, but I wasn’t laughing anymore as I read what happened. That’s awful. I would call them up and let them know how shocked and disappointed you were after the time and creative effort you put into creating that name combination. I would ask them if they plan to tell their daughter someday how she got her name. If not, you might ask if they are prepared to keep that kind of secret when she may find out from relatives, and let them know that evidence of the saga of how you choose her name is online. A group of people [Nameberries] were part of that and are not happy at what happened. If their daughter googles “[name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]” someday, she may run across the whole story herself. I bet they didn’t think of that!) I would point-blank ask them to change the name. You could point out that surely their daughter would rather have a name that they picked out rather than a name intended for her cousin.
I know this doesn’t help, but… you chose a stunning name combination! If they won’t change it, I would be tempted to use it anyway.
From your list and earlier list, I do like [name]Claire[/name], [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Julia[/name], [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Lydia[/name], and [name]Abigail[/name].
Pick those apart if you want! Also, maybe you could come up with an amazing name with the same initials, or is that to passive aggressive to do to a child???
But seriously, I second pp’s (everwaiteing) suggestion that you call them and tell them honestly how hurt you are - and yes, their daughter deserves her own name! Hugs, if it helps at all.
What? I remember reading about [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Maeve[/name], what, a month or two ago? They stole it? Seriously? They stole those three names for themselves? [name]How[/name] can they do that? I mean… did they have NO names lined up? They stole the whole package? I’m sorry – I just find that really, really low. One name, maybe, but not the entire name. I’m really sorry – it is a gorgeous combination. Some people are just beyond rude.
Forgive me, I haven’t been on here in a while…that is the EXACT name you two had chosen for your little girl? [name]Even[/name] if they had snatched ONE name that would be crappy but all three?
You must be fuming. I am fuming.
I’m sure your poor hubby never considered that they would snag the entire (or even a portion of the name). What do the Grandparents say?
You will, surely, find another name that you adore…although you shouldn’t have to. Best wishes to you. You should go get a really, really long prenatal massage now.
I can’t even begin to imagine what you must be feeling now! That’s the most horrible name stealing story I’ve heard, and I think you should tell them how hurt you are sooner rather than later.
YOU [name]DO[/name] NOT HAVE TO LIVE WITH THIS!
They should be ashamed, and give their girl a different name!
[name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] is YOUR daughter!
Here are some suggestions for them:
[name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Joy[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name] [name]Rosetta[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Primrose[/name] [name]Amandine[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Anwen[/name] [name]Fidelia[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
You have every right to be angry, I know I would be. I had a lot of names suggested but then my niece shut the computer down on me. LOL, she likes to count with the numbers on the keyboard. Not that she can read yet but she knows which ones are the number keys. But, in any event you should talk to your sister-in-law about it. She probably won’t change the name but you should still let her know how you feel.
So here are some name ideas/combinations that I think you might like.
[name]Imogen[/name] it is a repeat; however, I think it has an understated beauty. [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Gray[/name]?
[name]Beatrice[/name], I actually know someone who named their daughter this. I think it is cute. [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Lara[/name] [name]Elise[/name]?
I really like the name [name]Freya[/name]. I think it is a princessy type name that is understated. [name]Freya[/name] [name]Luna[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] ?
I really like the name [name]Vera[/name] even though it reminds me of the British soap opera Coronation [name]Street[/name]. I think there is something so endearing about the name. [name]Vera[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Grace[/name]/[name]Gracie[/name]??
[name]Viola[/name] is also so pretty. I actually have a great-aunt named [name]Viola[/name]. I think this name would be so cute on a little girl and it definitely grows with the child as they get older. I think that is the great thing about names like [name]Ingrid[/name] (sorry) and [name]Viola[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Vera[/name]/[name]Imogen[/name]/etc. They are cute on little girls then once they get older and are professionals in whatever they grow up to be they are very respectable names.
[name]Elena[/name] – there is something about this name I just love. Maybe it is the [name]Elle[/name] sound at the beginning. [name]Elle[/name] is such a cute nickname for any name that starts with that sound ([name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Eleanora[/name]). [name]Elena[/name] [name]Sierra[/name] [name]Imogen[/name]?
Lastly, I am going to suggest [name]Martina[/name]. I really like this name. I actually know someone who is close to my age (I am almost 20) that has this name. I can’t think of any combination for this at the moment, lol.
I cannot physically fathom how that happened. I just cannot.
This is one of those times when non-pg like fury is allowed to be unleashed!
I am wondering if the new mommy wasn’t duped into this name… I can so see a new father suggesting a name that is perfect, and not remembering exactly where he heard it, and him really unable to recall where he heard this wondrous name! I wonder if all four parents sat down if you could explain what happened and re-claim the name. If they refuse to change it, I would go ahead and give your baby the same name. I am serious! You will both have more children and it is your name, just give her a different nn than your niece. But if you fall in love with another name, don’t stubbornly stick to this one.
I am so sorry sweets!
<3 [name]Bella[/name]
[name]Jill[/name]- if you read this, if NB ever does awards this gets the best/worst (depends on your POV) name-stealer-story of all time!
Okay, I wasn’t sure if you wanted a name similar in style as [name]Ingrid[/name], so first bunch will be same style and then second grouping will be other pretty baby names for your little one!!
I didn’t get to put my son’s name down for certain until three days after he was born. Is it definitely too late? Honestly, I couldn’t change at this point. I would call them and discuss, and even if they didn’t change I would still use that name. It’s yours, and they can deal with any awkward embarrassment because of their actions.
That is just dreadful! I can’t believe they ‘stole’ your daughter’s whole name when you were just about to use it!
You must speak to you [name]SIL[/name]/ [name]BIL[/name] and tell them how hurt you are by their selfish and inconsiderate behaviour. You must tell them you are very disappointed in them and that you never expected them to behave in this way.
If you want to use the name you planned, I would still use it and not let them put you off!
However, given that you obviously have great taste and far more imagination than they do, you may find something that you love even more!
A few suggestions:
[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] [name]Annora[/name]/ [name]Eleanora[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Joy[/name]
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] ([name]Honor[/name] might be relevant in this situation)!
[name]Marguerite[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Amaryllis[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name] [name]Honor[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] ([name]Astrid[/name] really reminds me of [name]Ingrid[/name] but I think it is even nicer)
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Wren[/name]/ [name]Joy[/name]
