I always loved [name]Greta[/name] and I could see it as a stand in for ingrid.
[name]Sigrid[/name] is another Scandinavian name, similar to [name]Ingrid[/name]. ([name]Astrid[/name], too, as a previousl poster mentioned.)
[name]How[/name] about…
[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Clarissa[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Sigrid[/name] [name]Eve[/name] [name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Sigrid[/name] [name]Eve[/name] [name]Georgiana[/name]
That does sound so mind-blowingly awful. They had to know that was a really low and nasty thing to do. [name]Even[/name] if you do call and tell them how terrible it made you feel, the name is kind of …well, maybe not ruined, but compromised for you at this point. [name]How[/name] could you ever use it and feel good about it? [name]How[/name] are you ever going to feel good about them OR their little girl? Were they TRYING to piss you off? [name]Do[/name] they care at all about how you feel?
I’m CERTAIN you’re going to find another name you love as much and there have been lots of great suggestions so far. But the larger and longer-lasting problem is the cruelty of the act.
Here are some others I love (some I’m seconding from earlier posts)
[name]Johanna[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Viola[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
HTH! Any progress in terms of the conflict or the new name?
I love [name]Isla[/name] from your list! It is so feminine but sweet, and starts witht the same letter as [name]Ingrid[/name], if that helps… Hmmm what about…
[name]Isla[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosa[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name] [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
I know the names aren’t off your list, but I thought I’d put them anyway. I wish you sooop much luck and can’t wait to hear an update!
Bounce
PS I can’t even begin to comprehend how they could do such a thing!
This is exactly why I’m scared to tell anyone my name choices!
That is horrid though. I mean, were they mad at you or something? Or was it just a cruel joke? You have to remember, besides all of us on Nameberry, other people don’t take names seriously. They just pick whatever they hear on TV or read in a magazine. I would definitely take the advice and confront them about this…don’t let them get away with it.
As for your list, my favorites are…
[name]Honor[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Do[/name] you like any of these names as much as [name]Ingrid[/name]?
I couldn’t believe this when I read it!
I don’t have any new name suggestions for you, but I think, if I were you, I would use the same three names in a different order. I think that [name]Georgiana[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] sounds nice. That way you still get the three names that you love, and your daughter can really use any of them if she likes.
And, if you niece and your daughter end up being close when they are older, they won’t necessarily feel like they have the same name (if one goes by [name]Ingrid[/name] and the other goes by [name]Georgiana[/name]).
I just also want to add that there are several name repeats in my family. Not nearly as bad as your situation, though. There are 2 [name]Ryan[/name] Christophers (different last name), two Michaels (different middle name, but same last name), and a [name]Steve[/name] [name]Andrew[/name] and [name]Steven[/name] [name]Andrew[/name]. The only two that were particularly close where [name]Steve[/name] and [name]Steven[/name], and that worked out because [name]Steven[/name] actually went by [name]Andy[/name].
I hope that this all works out for you.
Thats absoloutely terrible! I can’t believe they had the audacity to do that! You must be absoloutely gutted…
[name]Ingrid[/name] is a stunning name, its one of my own favourites, but try not to compare every other name to [name]Ingrid[/name] if you can help it.
Some suggestions for you:
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Viviana[/name]
[name]Imelda[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Sigourney[/name]
[name]Parisa[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Gwyneth[/name]
[name]Viola[/name]
[name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Leona[/name]
[name]Grier[/name]
[name]Prudence[/name]
Elowen
[name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Verity[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name]
[name]Gwenore[/name]
[name]Monroe[/name]
[name]Aviva[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] / [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Honor[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Avalon[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]
[name]Finola[/name]
[name]Saskia[/name]
[name]Annora[/name]
[name]Garnet[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name]
[name]Amity[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Mariah[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name] / [name]Perla[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Gracia[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
That is ridiculous…I’d be tempted to use the name you picked out anyway.
But if not, my suggestion is:
[name]Magdeline[/name] [name]Carolina[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
I was aghast when I read your story! [name]How[/name] awful! Let’s see if we can help you:
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Joanna[/name] [name]Claire[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Natalia[/name]
[name]Julia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name] [name]Claire[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]
how about…
[name]Judith[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Honor[/name]
or
[name]Alexandra[/name]
What I was thinking was maybe~
[name]Judith[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] ???
GOOD [name]LUCK[/name]
I was relating your story to my dear mother, who came up with this list for you. She is insistent that I share it ASAP, because she said she’s ‘worried about you’ and that this is an ‘emergency’. She’s spent all evening scouring my name books for you. I love my mom.
[name]Gloria[/name] [name]Becca[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
or
[name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Maelle[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
I thought you may like [name]Gretel[/name] or [name]Sigrid[/name]. GL!
Wow! I really appreciate the support, Nameberries!
woodwinder: [name]Isla[/name] [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Claire[/name] are gorgeous.
leah_9: You asked if they explained why they did it…My sil said that they had “settled” on a name that neither one was really jazzed about, but when they heard our choice, they said it just “felt” right. [name]Crock[/name] of you-know-what imo, but anywho. Of your suggestions, I really liked [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Adele[/name], and [name]Annora[/name] (isn’t that a variation of [name]Honor[/name]?).
saranel: My sil and her husband are very entitled people. They’re both lawyers who live in a big house in a big city who generally think the whole world revolves around them. [name]Even[/name] my mil doesn’t always like them. Especially not right now.
bex: [name]Julia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Isla[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Mae[/name] are adorable. I do like the name [name]Mae[/name] as a mn, I just forgot to put it on my list. I also loved [name]Sasha[/name] [name]Roxana[/name] [name]Honor[/name], [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Claire[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Belle[/name] (really like this one), and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Esme[/name].
everwaiteing: I’ve already called them and asked if they will consider changing names. They’ve repeatedly told me no. My husband, in-laws, and multiple friends have also called, same thing. Its funny, but I can just about guarantee that if I’d stolen their baby’s name (not that I ever would, but hypothetically) they probably would’ve sued me.
tarat3232-My husband does feel really bad…he’s all but banished himself to the spare bedroom and has let me have my space today. He knows I don’t do stress well, so he’s trying to be nice.
As far as a pattern, I don’t really have one, except I want to love it and have it go okay with our last name. [name]Alice[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] are beautiful btw, except I don’t know what the second mn would be.
lilibet: Yes, they stole the whole package. They said they went to the hospital with [name]Isabella[/name] [name]Marie[/name].
irishmom: A long prenatal massage sounds amazing! Think I’ll do that. Depending on which set of grandparents you talk to, it varies from highly disappointed to “THERE SHOULD BE A [name]LAW[/name] AGAINST NAME STEALING…ITS THEFT” My in-laws are the highly disappointed ones. My parents are enraged, my dad literally turned purple.
sellons-Your suggestions are great. I have the hardest time with [name]Imogen[/name], I’m never sure how to say it. The way they say to pronounce it, always sound like imaging to me. Is there another way to pronounce it…? Of your other suggestions, I loved [name]Freya[/name] [name]Luna[/name] [name]Isobel[/name] and [name]Elena[/name], [name]Vera[/name] (didn’t like it before, but its growing on me), and [name]Martina[/name].
spotlightstarlit-While I have heard of situations like the one you mentioned and I wish this was one of those times, that simply wasn’t the case. I wish I could know just what they were thinking when put the name we picked but I doubt they’ll ever tell me the truth.
As far as naming our daughter our name anyway, my niece is innocent in all of this. She deserves her own identity and her own name, even though it was originally meant for my daughter. I just hope that one day she grows up to be a better person than her parents. And hey, at least she has a great name.
cuzikool-[name]Margot[/name] is adorable, I’d probably spell it [name]Margo[/name] or [name]Margaux[/name] though.
cranberry27-They could make her wait 3 days or 3 years and she still wouldn’t change her mind.
mummyto3-[name]Honor[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] is gorgeous. [name]Honor[/name] is definitely appropriate in this situation. Margraret [name]Amaryllis[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Honor[/name] [name]Jane[/name] are great too.
katielea-[name]Greta[/name] is cute, I hadn’t thought of using it before. Thanks for suggesting it!
everwaiteing-[name]Astrid[/name] is one I’d overlooked before, mostly because I could figure out any nns. Are there any?
pam-You’re right. I couldn’t use [name]Ingrid[/name] now and feel good about it, because all people will see is the fact that my niece was born first and then a couple weeks later, I used the same name. I can certainly never respect my sil again, but her daughter is innocent in this (like I told spotlightstarlit) and I will never hold the actions of her parents against her. Whether they were trying to piss me off or not, I don’t know. I know that [name]Dan[/name], my husband, calls into question some of the decisions she makes on occasion…and with her being a prideful person and all, I can see how she might be spiteful. But this is taking it too far.
bounceparty-[name]Isla[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Rose[/name] are gorgeous. I love the mn [name]Rose[/name], but I’d read it was overused as a mn though it definitely isn’t in our area.
cheekypanda-I definitely won’t be discussing names with anyone except for you all from now on. I’m not even sure about sharing with my husband. As far as names I like as much as [name]Ingrid[/name], [name]Honor[/name] is up there.
gaia-[name]Viviana[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Gwyneth[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] are all wonderful suggestions. Thanks!
gmarie-Your mom is so sweet! [name]Genevieve[/name] and [name]Blythe[/name] are lovely, and growing on me. [name]How[/name] do you pronounce [name]Maelle[/name]?
You should definitely go with [name]Honor[/name] for the first name…what a subtle and classy response it would be to all of this! And I love [name]Guinevere[/name] for one of the mns. GL!
Thanks! I also like the idea of [name]Aurora[/name] and [name]Roxana[/name]…both mean “new beginnings” or something similiar.
I don’t have any suggestions offhand, just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of support for you! That is just terrible. What dreadful people.
I am, however, confident that you are going to find another name that you [name]LOVE[/name].
Take good care of yourself!
Sorry, I’m not good at doing names with two middles. But here is what I have come up with:
[name]Nora[/name] [name]Rebekah[/name] [name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Arleen[/name] [name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name] [name]Ava[/name] [name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Lenora[/name] [name]Alisa[/name] or [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Annora[/name] [name]Edith[/name]
[name]Avery[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] [name]Meredith[/name]
[name]Tessa[/name] [name]Paisley[/name] [name]Arlette[/name]
[name]Lena[/name] [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
p.s. You’ll get through it, I promise. Keep looking for another name. Hugs!
OMG! I just realized that! [name]Honor[/name] would be absolutely perfect! [name]How[/name] ironic.
I think you should definitely go with [name]Honor[/name], it’s pretty and unique and SO appropriate!
What about…
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Natalia[/name] [name]Claire[/name]*
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Claire[/name]*
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Belle[/name]*
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Jane[/name]*
[name]Honor[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Aurora[/name]*
cheekypanda-[name]Honor[/name] [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is beautiful! I like it, its got class but its also spunky!
