I never ever thought I would consider having a theme for my kids names. We chose [name]Dahlia[/name], which I haven’t regretted for a heartbeat, for our first daughter. And now I’m thinking [name]Calla[/name] for the second, if it’s a girl. I also really like [name]Viola[/name].
But is having girls named after flowers a bit ridiculous? Part of me honestly thinks it’s cute and quaint, but part of me is skeptical.
I’m curious what other nameberries think?
I personally want to stay away from themed sibling names. My son has a surname first name and so I don’t want to use another surname if I had another son. I am currently pregnant with a girl and I am for sure not using a surname!
Themes can be fine if they are not too cutsey. It can get tricky if you start the first two kids with a theme then you might feel like you have to keep it up if you have more children. I think the names you have mentioned would work fine together. [name]Dahlia[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] are not as obvioius flower names. Not like [name]Daisy[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] or colors like [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] or something. I think you should explore other names but don’t rule out the names you love just because they are flower names.
I agree that [name]Dahlia[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] are not too obviously flower names. You could easily have a [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Viola[/name] and [name]Marigold[/name] or [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Viola[/name] and [name]Adeline[/name] (or any other non flower vintage name).
i love love lov flower names for girls-
pretty, delicate and timeless…
i espcially love violet, lily, rose, peony, poppy, posey, daisy & iris
I generally would agree - stay away from themes. But I also think you should use names you love. Furthermore, I don’t think your names are overly theme-ish sounding.
I adore the flower theme. I would use it, if there weren’t so many names I have come up with that I can’t stand not to use.
My opinion is not to worry about the theme and just use the names you love. If they fit into a particular theme fine, if not, great. For instance, all of the names that my husband and I love start with M. We have decided that we don’t care about that and are just planning to use what we love and can agree on. If all of the names you love for girls are flower names. go for it! They’re very pretty names
I have to say, I really don’t see anything wrong with themes. However, if you start a theme I don’t think you should break it. That being said, [name]Calla[/name] and [name]Dahlia[/name] aren’t obvious so I think you wouldn’t be obligated to choose another flower name. If you do feel obligated, well, lucky you! There’s a million pretty flower names to choose from.
My personal favorite is the month theme. I would love 3 girls named [name]April[/name], [name]May[/name] and [name]June[/name].
I don’t think its bad. I mean siblings with the same letter, [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Ivan[/name] & [name]Isabella[/name] are a theme so whats so bad about flower names?
