RAG? It seems that every combination I come up with is not as pretty as [name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] G. I love the slightly southern feel and the fact that as long as [name]Adelaide[/name] is in the middle slot, I shouldn’t have to worry about the dreaded (imo) nn [name]Addy[/name]. There are other middle names I’ve looked at but Dh has nixed quite a few: [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name]/x, [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Elisabeth[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name]…[name]Evelyn[/name] (too close to [name]Evan[/name] which is Ds’ middle name) and [name]Juliet[/name] (my other Dd’s middle name).
[name]Rose[/name] is one of our top 4 first names. Others we are considering are [name]Iris[/name], [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Clara[/name]. I’m due in [name]July[/name] but I may end up taking all 4 names to the hospital. We seem to be at a stalemate with naming. Dh has “approved” these 4 names but none of them seem to be “the one” to him I guess. And I’ve tried completely reworking my list a couple times for him. As far as I am concerned, I could name 10 girls with all my favorite names so perhaps I am a bit ambivalent with which one is best. And I’m sure I’m over-thinking it by now. Please help!
The list as it stands:
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] G.
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
I wouldn’t want my initials to be RAG. I like [name]Clara[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name], but [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Rose[/name] would also be pretty.
I don’t think RAG is that bad at all, and [name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] is just gorgeous! That’s def. my favourite for you, along with [name]Iris[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]. Those two would make a perfect sibset, if you don’t mind two flower names. Good luck
I personally don’t place too much emphasis on initials. I’m not sure it ever matters, given the lack of situations wherein you actually use your intials for something. I like [name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name], but much prefer [name]Iris[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] (I just think it flows better).
I wouldn’t NOT use a name b/c of initials unless it forms a really bad word (like an older male friend I know whose initials are A.S.S.). In my experience with my kids’ names, after 9 years, initials have been rarely used. I chose my oldest DDs middle name [name]JUST[/name] to make the initials neat and this feature has never gotten used. [name]IMO[/name] Use the name you like most unless the initials will be horrific.
Thanks for the replies! I do love [name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name]. Hopefully Dh will decide which one he likes best so we can get a move on and settle on a name! lol.
I don’t know, I think it would be better to avoid the initials RAG - I personally like monogramming things and it would make it difficult if my initials were RAG, I wouldn’t personally like to have those initials. My sister’s initials are SLO and she doesn’t like them at all, and has never been able to use her monogram because of them. For some people they won’t care but you’d probably care more if you didn’t like them than if they didn’t spell anything -then you feel like you’re missing out on something if that makes any sense?
I like the name [name]Iris[/name] better because it seems more fresh.
I agree with the others. If you love the name, go ahead and use it. As long as the initials don’t spell something offensive, I don’t see the problem. Personally though, I like [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] the best out of the names on your list.
I really like [name]Iris[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name]! I think it so pretty. I would never use the name if the initials spelled RAG. When I was younger, that was a slang term for a menstrual period, so it sounds kinda gross to me. That may not be the same everywhere, but it’s something to think about.
RAG isn’t so bad, it could be much worse. I grew up with my name being Sore backwards, and though I’m not especially pleased by it it doesn’t make me hate my name. [name]Just[/name] remember, RAG is better than SAG!
I wouldn’t use it. The name is very pretty, but I’ve realized that in various job fields, you have to initial things quite often. Of course she could always use her fn/ln initials, but what if a coworker has the same two initials? The period association also does it in for me. Sorry
My official opinion is that [name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] is pretty, but not prettier than your other combinations, and all things being equal, I’d avoid problematic initials. [name]True[/name], R.A.G. is not as bad as A.S.S., but wouldn’t R.F.G. or basically any of your other possible combinations be so much better?
I used to think I would care a lot if my kids’ initials spelled something – then my son’s initials wound up being LAP and I stopped caring because I really like his name.
I think in the scheme of things RAG isn’t the greatest set of initials but it’s far from the worst. If you love [name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] (and it’s pretty, you should love it!) you should use it. I thought classic monograms actually put the last initial in the middle? So it would usually look like RGA if you’re thinking of a monogram, right?
We know a sister set of [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Rose[/name], so you and my friend must have similar name tastes.
Your names are all pretty. I am due with a girl in [name]July[/name] too and we are at a total stalemate…very different from when I was expecting my son and I (we?) were sure pretty early on what his name would be. Good luck to you!
Aw I love the name [name]Rose[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] - or [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (I would shorten to [name]Adele[/name]/[name]Adela[/name]) but not sold on the RAG initials unfortunately. It is a slang term for some people and I think unless your initials spell something positive (or your first name like my husband who is S.A.M. ) then it may become a tricky issue.
Of your names I love
[name]Iris[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
or any combination really. [name]Clara[/name] is ok too.
