I have 60 boy’s names and 77 girl’s names on my long list. More than I would have guessed. On my short list, I have 20 boys names and 19 girls names.
I know this is kind of a short and sweet question, but I’m curious.

I currently have 737 boys’ names and 1,523 girls’ names on my list (2,260 names in total)! [name_f]My[/name_f] list started out in [name_u]July[/name_u] 2018 with 55 boys’ names and 75 girls’ names, and it evolved from there.
I have a long list for each gender, but it is subdivided into 4 different sections: Yes (I will definitely be looking at using these), Maybe (I’m looking at them, but I’m not sure whether I will use them or not), Archived (The majority of my names are in this section for each gender – Names of Family, Friends, I have decided not to use and Names I Kept Looking Up) and Nicknames (Names I only see as nicknames). The names in the Yes and Maybe sections keep moving fluidly between subsections, but most that end up in the Archive and NN sections stay put. I have 314 girl names & 254 boy names.
I thought my list was large.
How is that even possible?
Wow, this topic was made for me!
I don’t talk about this much - I have a list of over 16,000 names I like. About 9,000 girls, 7,000 boys. All from various cultures (listed next to the name), about half the names with meanings listed beside them.
I have a personal top 500, which all have meanings. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal top 20 all have long explanations for them! [name_f]My[/name_f] top 3 have basically an essay. The top 20 are all kept separately from the rest of the names, on Listography and handwritten in a notebook.
I’m currently working on transferring all my names onto a sharable document, which I am hoping to share on Nameberry when I hit 20,000 or so. Currently, I store about 5,000 on my Listography, some on my notes app, some on Google docs, some on paper, some on Pages(mac application, kinda like Word) so they’re all over the place ATM!

I could never, I’m so picky about names!
Totally understandable! I am too. There are only 10 or so names on my list that I actually may use one day. It’s become more of a passion project than a realistic list. I’m a big fan of etymologies and geography, so it’s really fun to delve into all of the names.
I’m with you. Most of my names are references. I have trouble connecting with names emotionally so I don’t have a whole lot I want to use.
I have 4 girl names and 3 boy names.
And even that feels like too much, I preferably just want 1 of each.
I would love to see how you format your lists and how you store them. I’d love to see how you keep them organised.
I have got 88 girls and 51 girls on my short list
But I need to review the whole thing because there are some that I don’t like as much anymore and I am looking for new names and combos
[name_f]My[/name_f] list is a sprawling mess with a mixture of individual names and combos. It’s just a note on my phone with more recent loves at the top. When I started, I loosely categorised it by origin (mainly Finnish, Karelian, and [name_f]English[/name_f]) but my newer names are just all mixed together.
No clue how many boy vs girl names there are, but I copied the entire note into a word counter, and it turns out there’s 442 names overall. Some of those are repeats though because I also brainstorm combos there, like:
[name_u]Alva[/name_u] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] Ruusu
[name_u]Alva[/name_u] Ruusu [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Alva[/name_u] [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f]
[name_u]Alva[/name_u] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Alva[/name_u] [name_f]Meri[/name_f] [name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_u]Alva[/name_u] [name_f]Helmi[/name_f] [name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_u]Alva[/name_u] Ruusu [name_u]Willow[/name_u]
In a way, I like that you can see how my taste in names has changed over the last two years since the list is mostly in chronological order, but it is difficult to find anything.
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], one day I want to make a list this organised! It feels like such a daunting task, though. Maybe I’ll copy the whole list into Excel and start processing it… although first I’ll have to figure out what my important categories would be. ![]()
I have 60 girls names and 58 boys names right now. If it gets too much longer then I’ll go through it and remove some of the ones I don’t love as much. It’s not organised at all, beyond separating girls from boys. I wish I was more organised but I’m just not!
I have 10 on my actual ‘would definitely use’ shortlist. [name_f]My[/name_f] overall ‘like’ list is currently at 30 girls and 13 boys
My list is basically my UC.
Though I do have a document on my phone where I play around with combos and possible twinsets.
My favourites are usually all in my UC, and my longlist consists of around 150 boy‘s and 260 girl‘s names (in need of updating)
I also have a unisex list of around 50 names.
I have about 500 names I love for girls, and maybe 100 for boys? I honestly think I would use all of them.
[name_f]Every[/name_f] time I come across a new name that I like or love, I’ll add it! I’ve collected names that way for over 2.5 years.
