We’re liking [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] more and more. We haven’t given up on [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] yet, but there is something about the sound of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] that is interesting and memorable when I say it outloud. Maybe it’s the alliteration or just the combination of names.
However, we’re worried that after her first years of life, the double B is going to become a burden or be seen as cartoony or corny.
Breatrix seems adult and professional enough to me, but when paired with our middle name of choice it might lose some of that respectability? What do you think?
I really like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u]. I quite like alliteration in names. I think since [name_u]Bell[/name_u] is a middle name, anything goes.
I like the combo. Is [name_u]Bell[/name_u] the surname or a middle name? It is definitely a cute, lively sounding combo because of the double B, but the strength of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and the fact that you’ve gone for the more pared-back spelling of [name_u]Bell[/name_u] (as opposed to [name_f]Belle[/name_f]) saves it from becoming too twee I think. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as long as you don’t call her [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u]!
[name_u]Bell[/name_u] is a middle name in this case.
I hope most of us will call her [name_f]Bea[/name_f], and BB could pass though I won’t encourage it. I will fight [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]! It didn’t occur to me! I don’t like that nickname
I kept reading this as [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] at first and was like nope, all kinds of nope. lol Now that I see that it says [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u], it’s a bit different. I’m not a humongous fan of alliteration, but I think in this case since it’s only the first letter that is repeated, it sounds fine. =]
As far as the names themselves go, I don’t like [name_u]Bell[/name_u]/[name_f]Belle[/name_f] for a name, middle or otherwise. I do think it brings down the maturity of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. However, there are few circumstances in life when a full name is heard, so I don’t know if it really matters.
It’s better than combining them to [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] haha!! I prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f], but I do like the nn. [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. I think it was the Name [name_u]Sage[/name_u] that said if you don’t like obvious nick names, you should recognize that’s what most people will use and you’ll never be able to fully fight it. So maybe [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] if that worries you?
As far as the BB issue, I am a BB (in first and last name, although my last name is also used as a first name)! Think along the lines of [name_f]Britta[/name_f] [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]. It worked really well for me, I didn’t mind being called BB, it sounds a little like ‘baby’ and that always made me smile. I also liked [name_f]Bee[/name_f], which I got called often. I also had a lot of people calling me by my full name in school. There was me and one other person ([name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]) that everyone called by our first and last name. It was fun and I never felt teased by it. It just rolled off the tongue so easily that people liked the sound of saying it.
To me, double initials aren’t cartoony or too cutesy. I’m planning on repeating them for one of my children with my married name. [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] will, for most people, be [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], or at the most [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] Lastname. If she does go by [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u], it will be a choice she consciously makes, and therefore will most likely enjoy the association! I wouldn’t worry about that specifically.
I wasn’t fully aware that [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Now that its been mentioned, it seems very obvious, but I only knw [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] as a name for a puppy. If [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] is a given, then [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is out, because it is absolutely true, there is no arguing if the majority of people are just going to use [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] immediately. We feel very strongly about keeping the names as they were used by the historic figures that inspired us, so on our minds [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] doesn’t “feel” the same as [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is a wonderful name. I don’ think the double B is a problem because there are very few times when you are called by your full name. If you like the alliteration, go for it. I think [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] sounds better than [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u], but I like the way [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] looks. If you like it, go for it. I don’ think it’s corny.
I think [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] is great, especially with [name_u]Bell[/name_u] as a middle, so she won’t have to go by [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] all the time if she doesn’t want to. I’ve actually been thinking about an alliterative middle for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (in my case [name_u]Blue[/name_u]), because I like how it adds some light, and gives a film star vibe (à la [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]) which really suits [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] in my opinion.
On Trixie, I personally love it, but I don’t think it’s a guaranteed nickname. Bee/Bea seems to be more popular, and most seem to dislike Trixie, so I don’t think people would assume Beatrix = Trixie. It might come up later at school or if she likes it, but I wouldn’t use a nickname unless I was told to.
You do not need to worry about [name_f]Trixie[/name_f]. I know [name_m]PLENTY[/name_m] of people that only go by their full names. If anyone tries to call her [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] they can be politely told that is not her name. I honestly have never understood this concern of people being called anything but their actual name (I’ve only heard it voiced on the forum). I know I would never call someone by any other name than what I was told. It is not my place, or anyone’s place, to do so.
I think it’s adorable! Though I prefer [name_u]Bell[/name_u]-with-an-e: [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. Either way, I don’t think it’s corny. I actually really love it!
With [name_u]Bell[/name_u] being a middle name, I think it’s adorable! I like the possible nicknames and the ability to go from cutesy to sophisticated and professional. I say go with it!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] to clarify on the [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] nn thing: I don’t mean to say that people will call her it after you tell them not to, I just mean it seems intuitive (to me), and you won’t be able to control the fact that people may think of it and call her it at some point in her life.
Of course she or you can say “don’t call me that,” but the point is she’ll have to tell people that a lot more than someone named [name_f]Heather[/name_f] is going to tell people not to call her ‘[name_f]Thea[/name_f].’ Plus, even though you as a parent don’t like the nickname, there’s no saying the daughter will feel the same way! She may choose to go by [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] no matter how much you may hate it haha.
So yeah, all I was trying to do is echo the Nameberry’s own rules for consideration: “If you hate the obvious nickname, i.e. [name_m]Ed[/name_m] for [name_m]Edward[/name_m], think twice about using the name,” because you can only control it so much. I def didn’t mean to suggest that everyone will call her [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] all the time no matter what, just that it’s something to be aware of with the name [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I have the same issue with [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - love the name, love [name_f]Bea[/name_f] as a nn, HATE [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] - so not sure whether the name is useable?
While you can control adults, you cannot control kids at school etc.
It is the same problem with the name [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] - great name [name_f]IMO[/name_f], but likely leads to some calling her Slutton …
I understand. I am imagining things in the context of my family and our community, who might run off with [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] while she’s a baby and not bother to ask if it’s anything else. It might be immature, but its going to drive me off the wall to hear a well meaning relative calling our baby a name that I (unfairly) connect with a dog
I will quiz people as to which is the go-to nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] in the area. If most people say [name_f]Bee[/name_f] or [name_f]Bea[/name_f], I’ll be happy even if [name_f]Trixie[/name_f] comes up once or twice. It it is prevalent, then [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is fired.
Obviously if she grows up to embrace the nickname [name_f]Trixie[/name_f], that will be fine and not a problem at all, but I won’t take it on her behalf.
i think it depends a little on your last name. if that too starts with a B i think it will get old. If not, I quite like it. As an adult it’s very possible to never use your middle name, if it seems unfitting. though the nickname [name_f]Beebee[/name_f] is also very cute. In general I like it.
Hah, I thought I’d seen [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] before today… I was on one of the other sites today (I go by [name_f]Carly[/name_f] there). So you already know my opinion - [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u] is great! I too prefer [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but I assume that’s been ruled out - I haven’t read all the comments, sorry!
My go to nickname for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is definitely [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. But yeah probably best to see what is common around you.
